  1. Happy to submit our final update in this thread. We feel lucky to have a relatively quick approval despite having a notoriously slow local FO and getting a medical RFE.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. Hang in there!

Today my Wife and Stepson received a new status in the Portal of "Case Approved", an approval notice was sent and to follow instructions in that notice. This was for i-485 which was mailed and received in February 2023 (only 5 months).

A few days ago, we were notified there was activity on our cases and when I looked it merely show the case was being actively looked at but with a date of March. I didn't think much of it as there was not action to take, but then here we are a couple days later with an approval.

Wondering what instructions the Approval Notification letter is likely to contain?  Also not clear where we truly are in the process.  I want to be excited that we have a "case approved" but isn't there still another in-person interview?  Then more waiting, then eventually a green card in total time around 20 months?  I mean, they wouldn't be getting this done in 6 months..right?

All I can say is congrats! The USCIS most likely waived your interview and you should get your green cards in the mail pretty soon. Plenty of people on this forum adjusting from K visas had their interviews waived, and some of them were approved in as little as 2 months, so 5 months isn't unheard of.

Our case tracker app just alerted us that the USCIS has sent us an RFIE for my wife's I-485. Not the update we were hoping for given we've tripled check everything. We were trying to see what the evidence request is for, but we can't find it on her My USCIS portal. Should it show up under the Documents tab along with her NOA1 and biometrics appointment notice? Should we look at this as a good sign that the USCIS is looking at her case? Thanks for your input!

The RFE finally showed up on my wife's account this morning, and of course it's a medical. Despite including her DS-3025 from her overseas medical from February of this year, and including an explanation in her cover letter that K-1 applicants are exempt from doing another medical in the US, the USCIS is still trying to extort more money for their cronies. We feel that it's not worth the risk to fight it, so we'll cave in and do another medical as soon as possible (especially since I have some doubts about her DS-3025 being correct).

For those adjusting on a K-1 and redoing their medical in the US, did you do the full medical, or just the vaccination portion of the I-693?

p.s. I'm really confused why the Case Status says RFIE, when the actual document states it's an RFE. Is this normal?

the access code is the first notification?
Uscis has received our application on 05.05 but we haven’t heard from them since. Is that normal?

No, it's not. Here's our timeline:

Mailed USPS (Chicago Lockbox): May 1

    Delivered: May 2

    Text messages: May 5

    Check cashed: May 8

NOAs: May 9-10 (NOAs from NBC, dated May 4)

    Online access code: May 11

Did you get the text messages with your case numbers? Did the USCIS cash your check/charge your card? Either way, it's still pretty early

  7. Happy to report w got the access code letter yesterday, 10 days after mailing our application.

Will the USCIS really notify us of any updates via email/text as soon as they're available in the portal (e.g. when the biometrics appointment is scheduled), or do we have to keep checking for updates ourselves?

On a side note, I've noticed that all the evidence we submitted for all 4 forms including the I-864 was lumped under the I-485 case, and there's no evidence listed under the other cases. Also, a few of my pay slips and my tax return transcripts haven't been scanned. Was curious if others have experienced the same thing.

I'm applying for permanent residence off a K1 visa.

    I submitted AOS, I-131, and I-765 on March 13th, 2023
    Biometrics April 14th, 2023
Submitted expedite request for I-131 at end of April, 2023
Got RFE for I-485 for a "missing medical report" May 2nd, 2023 (Medical is not required for K1 visas holders)
Responded to RFE with a letter explaining K1 requirements May 9th, 2023

Both I-131 and I-765 cases were terminated May 10th, 2023

The EAD and AP say that "We closed your Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, because the applicant or petitioner received a status or benefit through other means." My I-485 hasn't updated yet, but I'm really hoping this means it's approved!

Wow, that would be lightning fast for USCIS, congrats!

I'd say wait a few days for the online access code information, then you'll be able to sign on and see if all your cases were received. Did you put them in the same package?

Thanks! I already have all 3 case numbers from the text messages my wife received, so best to my knowledge that also confirms the I-485 was received. But isn't the I-485 NOA the only proof my wife will have of legal status in the US once her I94 from her K1 entry expires in 2 months? Can you print the I-485 NOA from the online portal?

  10. Concurrent filing for AOS I-485, EAD I-765, and AP I-131 after marrying on a K1

Mailed USPS (Chicago Lockbox): May 1

    Delivered: May 2

    Text messages: May 5

    Some updates

    Check cashed: May 8

2 NOAs: May 9 (NOAs from NBC dated May 4)

Sadly, we only received 2 NOAs (for I-765 and I-131). The envelopes were in a pretty nasty state which makes me a bit worried about the NOA for the I-485 (hope USPS didn't lose it/destroy it). Did anyone here had to deal with a similar situation? Should we contact USCIS if we don't get the last NOA in a few days?

Once you receive your online access code, you can upload the additional evidence and there are categories for the uploads. For example, at the time of filing, our 2022 tax transcript was not yet available. Once it was, I uploaded it under the affidavit of support section. There's also an unsolicited evidence section if you're looking to provide more proof of your relationship.

Thanks for your response! Sounds exactly what I was looking for!

I do not think you can upload additional info for the AOS since it is not filed online that's only with the N400 you can do that.  You have to mail any additional items in. At this point USCIS knows you have limited marital documents. You'd be better off just waiting and deal with the RFE when and if you get one.

Hi Sarge, thanks for your reply!

I've definitely seen people on this forum saying they've replied to RFEs for their AOS applications by uploading evidence to their online portal (unless I've misunderstood what they were actually saying). I just wasn't sure if the upload option is available prior to getting an RFE and if it would be beneficial to use it in my case. Guess I'll find out soon enough!

  13. Hi everyone!

Concurrent filing for AOS, EAD, and AP after marrying on a K1

Mailed USPS (Chicago Lockbox): May 1

    Delivered: May 2

Reading the forum after mailing our application I think I might have screwed up by not providing any additional evidence of marital life apart from the marriage certificate (sent 3 copies).

Should we upload evidence such as joint bank account statements, copy of our IDs with matching address, plane tickets for our honeymoon, etc. as soon as we get online access to try to avoid getting an RFE? Thanks for your help!

If I can jump in really quick.

You'll have to send them an inquiry to NVC see if they received your case from USCIS.

They don't give you an exact date, but you can get a general idea depending on when you sent the inquiry.

For example, my NOA 2 is from Nov 14th 2022.

I sent an inquiry on December 9th and they said they didn't receive it yet.

I called USCIS on December 16th and they said they hadn't sent it yet.

Then I sent another inquiry to NVC on December 28th and they said they recently received it.

So my guess is that they received my case around December 28th 2022.

I have the same NOA2 date, so please let me know when you get your case number!

I personally had some issues with the NVC inquiry form. I sent two inquiries using the form on Jan 2nd and Jan 15th. Each time they responded saying that they haven't received my petition yet from the USCIS. I sent a direct email to the NVC on Jan 19th and they finally confirmed yesterday (Jan 24th) that they have received my petition.

I really hope it was just a glitch similar to what others on this forum seem to have experienced, and that my petition was received by the NVC in December and not just recently.
