There is no drawback to doing that, but it will not measurably change the time it takes for him to get a visa.

I think it will be fine. In addition, once you marry, the petition will be voided anyway. I'm sure you know the spousal visa processing time is pretty long, too. Good luck. It will not affect a spousal visa case.
