Being multilingual is certainyl helpful with some jobs but not all jobs. I think Spanish is perhaps the most helpful second language in the States. I don`t speak it well enough though. So far my experience and education has not helped but i don`t think it hurts either. For applications i have simply been stating that x y and z are in the UK. I think it depends on what field you are looking in really. If you are skilled and it is clear that you are skilled then it won`t matter that your skill is non US. It might just be in some cases that you might need to gain a U.S. qualification but in most cases i think they will accept you on your foreign acuired skills. Sorry if i make no sense. It happens.

I hate to say it but i wonder if it is easier if you are white. Most of the immigration officials at ATL are white middle aged dudes and whilst they always seem fine with me i guess it is possible that they are harsher towards non white immigrants.

Hello, everyone!

I am going to fly through Atlanta, so it is going to be my POE. Since I am not that good with English I am trying to learn what I will need to do when I arrive there. Step-by-step. When do I get my luggage? (I have connection flight to Portland then and so should I get my luggage in Atlanta or only in Portland?) When they take a yellow package from me? Is it a special room for immigration?

I also read that people give officers a blue paper. I am not sure what it is? Is it something like declaration? And is it nesessary to fill it out if I have nothing to declare?

I feel pretty nervous about it as I heard not so nice things about Atlanta POE. So I am trying to learn.

I would appretiate any help!

I went through Atlanta POE but i didn`t go anywhere else afterwards.

Here is how it goes though to the best of my knowledge.

Arrive at ATL go through immigration which is not too long usually but it depends on time and other flights there at the same time.

Then you pick up luggage and have to recheck it.

You recheck the luggage if you are connecting or not but before rechecking you go through customs.

Customs is when you get sent into a side room and this is where the immigration process happens. You hand over your envelope at this point not the first immigration point.

After rechecking luggage you go through security and then after that you go through security you take a train to get your baggage although in your case i guess you recheck your baggage and then go to your connecting flight.

This is a good question to ask and i think it effects everybody going through this in some way or another.

I have been in the US for about 3 weeks and i travelled here often during the visa process so the change was not too drastic for me. I am from England aswell so the countries are not too different really. Having said that there have been some hurdles. Looking for work and gettign a drivers license are hurdels and having no money has been a problem. I often feel like an alien here in USA but at the same time i have always felt at home because i am with my family. My wife was the goal not America. I don`t really know anybody here and most of the people i do know here think i am an alien and in many ways i am different to a lot of the people i meet here. The experience has been good though and i have met planty of friendly people here. In the time i have been here i have done a lot and it was never going to be an easy move but it has been rewarding despite the hurdles. I think it might be hard for your spouse but maybe he can do what i have been doing. Tidying up the hosue and doing laundry and just getting comfotable in the home. I have been busy during my time out of work. It is also good to keep active for the time when you go back to work or study.

I am not sure where to post these questions so forgive me if i got the wrong place.

I arrived just over a week ago in Atlanta and i went to apply for my Social Secuirty on monday. I got my social security card on saturday and now i am applying for a permit to allow me to learn to drive on the road here.

So i am finding out the things i need to drive and i wonder what exactly i am waiting on. Should i get a green card in the mail? Do i need to apply for it? I read somewhere that people got their white i94 back and should i have got mine back aswell or is that for certain visas only?

Is my passport good to prove i am here legally for now?

I have a SS card and my passport(stamped). Apparently i need to get proof that i live here in Georgia so i guess i will use a bank statement once i get that. I am mainly asking what els ei am waiting for if anything as the dmv booklet mentions proof that i am here in GA legally and mentions i-551 which is the stamp in my passport right? There is nothing else is there?

So any help on this is much appreciated.

How do you know it didn't hit the central core?? Logic indicates that a plane travelling at that speed would easily have hit the central core. I remember seeing a doc which explained how the WTC had a design flaw were the center of the building carried all of the stuctual strength and was not designed to protect against fires or such an impact..

Well firstly your explanation is actually different to the official story but just watch the direction of the south tower hit. The plane clearly does not hit centre and clearly was in the wrong direction to hit central columns. Added to the fact that people have already stated quite clearly that they believe the plane would just break up on impact. The alluminium can theory does not support the steel building destruction theory sadly. Naturally there are official story documentaries to support the official story and to keep people questioning. I saw a documentary which claimed the designers of the building had not factored in the fuel of the aircraft. This is not however the case as the WTC was designed to withstand a fully loaded 707. The designers bleieved it could withstand multiple 707 hits aswell. The design of the building was to sway when hit by adverse weather or aircraft. This did indeed happen. Then the building stopped swaying as it had absorbed the impact. If the plane had knocked out the core then thebuilding would have started to fallstraight away i would imagine.

I am depressed about the work situation too and have just about given up hope of getting any employment that is even slightly close to what I was able to get in the UK. I didn't like it - the social commentary was sort of there but muddled. I liked the premise - and it had what looked like some very good ideas. From a writer's perspective however, it seemed as though they had dumped a lot of material - essentially turning what should have been a sub-plot (Dead Reckoning) into the whole movie.

Not only that but it's far less gory than the original movies - Day of the Dead set the bar very high there.

Basic physics:

Acceleration = force / mass..

The structure was a steel building, therefore as soon as one area of the building was weekend the other was unable to support it causing a rapid collapse. Lets not forget the height of the buiding and the fact the the fireball would have travelled thoughout the lift shafts, further weakening the structure..

Well this theory of yours sadly ignores the design of the building and fails to account for the rapid collapse after very little burning time. The official explanation is that fire weakened the steel causing a collapse but the fire was clearly not a raging inferno and the majority of the jet fuel clearly exploded outside the building. Add to this the fact that people can be seen at the hole left by the plane shortly afterwards. This again demonstrates that the fire from the initial impact was not as bad as is claimed.

Plus in 1975 the north tower of the WTC burned for 4 hours and the tower did not collapse. The plane did not cause collpase directly, the official story is that fire brought down the towers. The central core was very strong and had little to fuel a fireball. Other steel structures have burned for much longer and have not collapsed.

Even if the weight of the above floors was too much for the below floors then the below floors would still provide resistance. This would slow down the collapse. The plane that hit the south tower(which came down first) did not hit the centre of the building but the side so it didn`t come close to the central steel core.

So what exactly caused the fireball to travel away from the impact zone and down the sealed elevator shafts?

I know you've invested a lot in believing there's a conspiracy, but you'd do yourself a big favor if you'd just give it up and move on. There was no conspiracy by anyone but Al Qaeda to attack the US.

No offense but I am an engineer and the events definitely did not "suspend the laws of physics and common sense". Funny how every one with a BS 'theory' never bothers actually speaking to the people who were there or were part of any relief effort.

Well if you are an engineer please answer the question that has yet to be answered. How did the towers come to the ground in almost freefall speed? If you as an engineer subscribe to the pancake theory then please explain why the floors provided no resistance. If you can come up with an answer to this then we can start getting into building 7 etc.

As for speaking to the people who were there please read the rest of the thread and see the video of firemen testimony which i linked to. There are plenty of witnesses that do not support the oficial story. What exactly do your pictures prove in your view?

Apology accepted. Please note in my reply that i am only offering a view point and i don`t actually claim to know with all certainty what happened or how it went down to the last detail.

It has been reported that there were power downs prior to the 11th of September 2001. these were said to be highly unusual. The interview was on a video i posted i think but if not i am sure it is out there. I have no idea how busy the WTC was at night or how secuirty could in fact be breached but Neil Bush i think it was(or one Bush brother) was in charge of security. This is perhaps the strongest direct link to Bush apart from his Bin Laden links.

Again these are all very specific points you are making as if they are the only way to do it. I am no expert on such operations and was not actually involved so i am not sure why you would expect me to know.

Well the south tower collapsed much sooner so who knows? Maybe they did go off too soon.

Again, you are the one advancing a theory that is far removed from what the vast majority of experts accept. You need to present adequate evidence supporting your theory. You cannot point to supposed "holes" or things you don't understand in the official consensus and use that as proof the consensus is wrong.

I have no definitive theory. As stated before i have questions for th emost part and find holes in what i have been told happened. There are theories that seem to have more weight to me based on evidence that i have provided but for the most part we are in the dark. Perhaps the biggest indication for me that the government is involved is the cover up of an independant investigation. For the most part this is now very tough as the evidence is destroyed and the crime scene is compromised. I present questions and indicate where i see issues or errors. That is all i can do really.

Oh i got you. In Plane SIte you mean? Well i have not supported the video i have just presented information. In Plane site simply shows footage that was shown on t.v. and points out things that appear odd etc. To simply say it does not stand up is not actually knocking it down.

May i just ask which video you refer to? I did not post a video realting to the Pentagon that i am aware of. Once i can clarify what you refer to i can answer more fully.

Actually it is very well documented and widely addepted that the 'confession' tape of Bin Laden was a fake. One only has to view it to see that firstly the guy was a double, merely by his general appearance. Secondly, he is writing with his right hand- the FBI description of his has him as left handed. He also wears a gold ring- which I hear is forbidden by the Islam faith.

This is probably my favorite part of the conspiracy theory, although admittadly the softest. Bin Laden initially denied any part of the bombing, then later this controversial fat Bin Laden tape comes out taking credit for the action.

Now- this may not be a smoking gun pinning 9/11 on Bin Laden, but one thing it should do it put to rest the idea that Osama Bin Laden is an undercover CIA agent for the U.S, because if he was, why didn't he act like a good CIA agent and go along with the plan taking credit right away? Was he on strike for a couple months holding out for some better deal?

Well any number of scenarios are possible of course but i believe Bin Laden is or was a CIA asset and therefore he is/was used by the CIA and was perhaps not always directly ordered. Perhaps(just an idea) he was just manipulated. Obviously he has been looked after by somebody as his family all got flown out of the USA and he was looked after in hospital whilst on the most wanted list. He also has not been caught. The idea that they could not catch him i find hard to believe. Bin Laden might not be alive anymore for all we know. The whole tape finding is rather a stretch for me. So they found this tape on it`s own or as part of a collection? Was it labelled Osama confession tape? Were the experts who identify people from video on holiday with Bush the day it was found?

You think that if I agree with the "official" account of events, I am a blinded sheep that doesn't question anything. And I agree that I downplay your position and consider it a bit wacky. So i guess we're even on that one.

I know you are joking but i really don`t see you as a blinded sheep. I think we all have bias and we all have a lot of ####### to get through to find the truth. I know it is not easy to know what is real because i have looked into history and studied media etc. Everybody is selling something and information is power. I don`t look down my nose at you. I have only linked pages to counter pages. Other than that i have linked videos which demonstrate evidence. The videos have been short to the point videos and the same goes for pictures that i have posted. the point of the evidence i post is to be as simple as possible. I know if i post lots of links people are unlikely to read them or even click them. The only page i linked that i recall was a counter to your popular mechanics piece. Whether you read it is up to you. I really am not bothered but wanted it posted for the record.

The Pentagon to me is a side issue. It is one piece of the puzzle and it is one of the lesser known events of 9/11. We have no video to study and very few phtographs to look at. The lack of information about the Pentagon leaves it open to debate but that debate will probably never be resolved. I have my thoughts on the Pentagon and i have expressed them. I concede that this could be a straw man set up to knock down although the bad video released did not silence any criticism as it was unclear (literally).

Perhaps i did in part confuse you with other posters but you certainly did imply that i was crazy. Your whole attitude is very negative towards this debate and towards those who have different views to you.

I will always post information that i believe should be looked at but at some point i expect people to either ignore it or follow it up with their own research. Well how long it should take is a law of physics. I notice that you finally attempt to address this point after twistign the facts did nto work. How does common sense work in your mind? The laws of physics show that other buildings fall down. The WTC towers did not fall down but they crumbled into themselves. This is very odd in itself. Add to this the law of physics for falling matter. A piece of rubble at the top of the tower would take about one second less time to reach the ground than the top piece of the towers took. A top piece which incidentally had 109 floors below it to slow it down. Common sense tells me that 109 floors would slow down the fall by considerably more unless some sort of assistance was given to the towers.

It is a "fact" that the towers came down in near freefall speed. This is a FACT. The jet fuel would not melt steel. This is another FACT.

Your right, jet fuel will not "melt" steel. But it will soften it enough so the weight of the structure above it will cause it to fail. Once one part fails the rest comes crashing down in a chain reaction.

And thanks Ual777. I said some of the same things you did there but you have a lot more experience in those matters. In a battle between aluminum traveling at 400mph and reiforced concrete and stone the aluminum dosn't have a chance.

The jet fuel that burned was gone in a few minutes, but it ignited a fire that could not be put out. That fire was what weakened the steelsuch that it could not support the weight above it.

I forget exactly what it is, but each floor can support the weight of two or three floors. That's how the building is able to stay up, the first floor isn't supporting the weight of 109 floors, it's supporting its own weight plus some extra strength was engineered in for safety. When the weakened steel finally gave way, the floor above suddeenly had to support the weight of 10, 15, 20 floors, it couldn't, and it collapsed. The next floor down couldn't take it, and so on. It happened very quickly, as you could see from the video.

I just realized something. You weren't saying only one floor had explosives on it. You're saying every floor had explosives on it, and when the buildings collapsed you believe that each floor's explosives were detonated in sequence to bring down the building. My god, you're ###### insane.

Sorry, I just can't not say that. That is the most ###### insane thing I've heard. It wouldn't take hundreds of pounds of explosives to do that, it would take tens of thousands. And you believe the government was able to sneak tens of thousands of pounds of high explosives into two very large buidlings with tight security and tens of thousands of people using them, place the explosives where they needed to be to bring it down, yet out of sight, with all the electronics necessary to do the demolition. And how do you power the detonators? You can't depend on the building's electricity after you fly the planes into it, and batteries won't last long enough. Then after flying two planes into the building, you start the demolition at the floor just below where the planes hit, and have it all work perfectly without anyone knowing or blowing the whistle? Holy dogshit, you're batshit crazy.
