  1. Here is the problem. I got here and I never did get my Green Card. The card got lost in the mail I guess. It was returned to the USCIS the first time that delivery failed and the second time it never got back to them so they charged me for a replacement. I didn`t have a spare $260 so I was unable to replace the card that the post office lost. I had a problem getting a job because of the expired I551 i my passport so I went to an infopass and they were good enough to stamp an extension to my temp stamp which expires in July when my removal window ends.

So do I have to have my Green Card or will my I551 be good enough? You see I don`t have $260 right now.

    Help

    thanks

  2. Hi

I have a problem. I read that you *must* have your green card to adjust your status. The problem is that I never received my green card and was due to replace it. The original card was lost in the mail and the USCIS decided that I had to pay to replace the card. I didn`t have $260 spare and have not had that kind of money to spare so I have never been able to get my actual green card. So I was hoping to eventually get that replaced but of course I NEED to adjust my status. I did manage to get a stamp in my passport which effectively extended my temp I551 but will that suffice for AOS?

I don`t know if anybody can help me or if anybody knows but I would appreciate any and all help on this topic. thanks a lot in advance.

  3. Hi

I arrived int he states back in July 2006 and I never did get my green card. I have been calling about it to get it resent to me a number of times. I eventually learned that the first time it was sent to me it was returned to them and the second time it was sent to me it wasn`t returned to them. As a result I have been chasing something that is not there I guess. I filed the I90 form to replace a card I never received but they eventually got back to me saying that I needed to pay $260 for the card.

Any idea what I can do to get out of paying? I never got my card so I don`t see why I should pay for a replacement. On top of that I don`t earn much right now so I really don`t have $260 to spare.

Any help would be appreciated. I think the chances are that I will be forced to pay for the card. I just don`t really have that kind of money right now.

  4. Hi

I came to the states(GA) at the end of July 2006. I got about 6 welcome to the united states letters and almost straight away i went to apply for a social security number. I had no problems and i was working and living without any hiccups. The first time the lack of resident card hit me was when i came to take my driving test. I had really not thought about it as it had not been required until then.

Anyway i eventually took my test but the resident card had not arrived so my license was set to expire on january 9th. Well despite calling USCIS 2 or 3 times i still don`t have it. My resident card was apparently mailed out to me and returned. I found this out at the start of November when i called the USCIS the first time. They told me that it took up to 30 days so i could not call until 30 days had passed. Then at the start of December i called again and was told this time told t took 45 days.

Since then i moved and filed an AR11 and i got 2 more welcome letters.

Current status is i have an expired driving license and about 7 welcome letters but no resident card. Does anybody know of a way i can be sure i get my resident card?

  5. Just thought i would add my experience for GA.

I got my learners permit with my passport/visa and my social secuirty number but then I was told i needed an I94 to get my actual license, and i told them i had a CR1 and my visa was in my passport. They sent turned me away then i checked out what they said and tried again and they gave me a drivers license eventually (it was an error on their part). The problem is that i have still not got my permanent resident card so my licvense was only vaild for the duration of that temp visa. Now i am still waiting on my permanent resident card and my license has expired.

  6. yes my name is in the mailbox but with anything needing a signature or too big the post office bring it to the door and of course if we are not home they usually leave a "we called while you were out" note but sometimes they stick them in the door and other times in the mailbox. I have found them on the ground outside before so it is possible that it fell out the door. These apartments tend to walk around blowing air and trash around daily so it could be that (the note) got blown away.

  7. O.K. it must happen a lot as the automated number has the option for received letter but not card. I got through to an operator eventually who told me that it was returned ot the post office undelivered in September. They are redelivering it. I swear the mail system in these apartments sucks. I just have to hope it arrives before we move at the start of December. She did say 30 days maximum so hopefully it comes soon.

thanks again everybody and good luck to all current cases.

  8. Thanks everybody. I was satrting to think i had just been unlucky to come across somebody who didn`t know what they were talking about. I even told her that the stamp in my passport was my actual visa.

I got my learners permit o.k. and hopefully the driving test will be smooth sailing. Thanks again everybody. I don`t have a green card yet though. I have been here 3 months. Do i get a greencard after i change my status on my visa as it is based on my marriage being less than 2 years?

maybe i need to make a new topic.

  9. I mentioned in another thread that i had trouble putting in for my road driving test because they asked me for my i94 which i was never given. It seems from the response that i should not have my I94 but i wanted to check. I had my I551(the actual vissa) but have not got a green card yet and they did give me a learners permit so i wonder if the woman i spok to just made a mistake in not allwoing me to take my test.

So i was just making a general topic here in the hospes of getting a reply.

thanks in advance and p.s. anybody hiring in Atlanta shout me a holler.

  10. I am indeed on a CR1 and was baffled by this. I showed her my passport and and said that it was my visa. I filled the form out that they had given me with my alien number written down from my passport stamp and as my wife pointed out to me afterwards i didn`t need an I94 to get my learners permit so why did i for my actual license.

The woman at the DMV even checked with somebody as well so i am confused as hell. Thanks for responding. So i don`t need an I94? I haven`t needed it so far but wondered if it had been a mistake at the airport.

    thanks for all your help.

  11. Hi

I have been living and working in America for a few months now. I have a social security card and i have a learners permit to drive. I just finished working for Ford in Atlanta and was luck a si got a ride to work with my father in law. I went for my license today though so i can get to my nexy job(when i get one) and they told me they needed my I94. I told them that i was not given my I94 form back at POE. I had my visa and social security card and i had my learners permit but the GA DMV would not let me take the road test.

So anybody know what i can do to get my I94 or how i can get around this somehow? No idea why this has been so tough.

    help please

  12. Well i was working for Ford at the Atlanta plant as a temp worker until the plant was idled on friday and i was earning $20 an hour. That was a decent wage and was enough to live on and if it had been permanent then i would have let my wife quit her $10 an hour job if she wanted. I will probably be looking for $10 an hour or more now. Also the thing in the States is to get benefits like health insurance etc. A good wage is not as good if you have to spend it all on doctor bills.

  13. I see a couple of major flaws in your opinion...

    1. it seems from the pictures posted on VJ, most of the folks expressing concern with ATL are also white.

    2. Your personal observation of the demographic make-up of the employee base does not agree with my experiences in ATL.

    3. "Most immigration officials in ATL are white middle aged dudes" implies that only whites can be prejudice, only middle ager can be prejudice and only 'dudes' can be prejudice.

flaws in my opinion? Firstly my opinion was not given as FACT or even a FIRM opinion. I simply made a summation on a possible reason for Atlanta having a bad rep. I also pointed out that this was just something possible and made it clear that i have had no problem with ATL personally.

Your views of the demographic is based on immigration or all ATL staff? I was talking about Immigration officers who from what i have seen seem to be largely white middle aged dudes. This again was not claimed to be fact but i was just offering an idea up. If the immigration officers are mostly black women then i guess it is just chance that it has not seemed that way to me.

How does the sentence "Most immigration officials in ATL are white middle aged dudes" imply that only white dudes can be prejudice?

If i offended you in some way i am sorry but i think you just took what i said the wrong way or something. Again as i said i had no problems at ATL apart from the fact it was a busy airport and i had jsut been flying for 9 hours. No problems here.

  14. People who support terrorist make me sick. I can proudly say at a USCIS interview that I support Israel. Will you proudly say you support Hezbollah at your interview?

    that's the difference

    P.S. I'm not even Jewish

Terrorism by the state is still terrorism, people still die. Besides the fact that many terrorists appear to be on the payroll of the state.
