I live in restaurant heaven...at least 5 pizza places, 3 great sushi places, and several awesome places of varied cuisines within a mile of our place.
-
My family moved three times before I was 10; but all in the same city. Didn't speak any other language than English fluently until university. Sushi is my absolute favorite food, but I wasn't introduced to it until university either.

Got Darren's biometric appointment today (great b-day gift )! Scheduled for November 22, right when his parents are due to visit from the UK...

My husband has run into a problem. We have just filed for ROC, but his employer does not recognise the one year extension that accompanies the application.
Now maybe I'm just being a little thick, but if his status is okay with the U.S. government, why wouldn't it be with his employer?
Is anyone else having an issue with this?

New person on the list! We sent Darren's application in on October 9th; the receipt date was October 14th. We haven't gotten any information on anything else yet.

Scared to fly, want to be nowhere near a window seat, and prefer the aisle. As I am petrified to fly, any confrontation would elevate my stress level, so I would just leave it alone.
I just assumed that the gesture was not rude, maybe a language barrier.
Never tried quail eggs, but would if given the opportunity.

I know, right!?
"Here's a passport and a free pass to go live in a America. I trust you're the person this is intended for."
Edited to let you know that Ian is in Essex, so I don't know if his relative close proximity to London had anything to do with how quickly they were able to deliver the visa to him.
Where in Essex? My husband grew up in Hainault and Ilford, but later moved to Brixham in Devon.
Small world, huh?

I have insurance from my employer, but we cannot afford the premium for my husband. My deductibles, co-pays, and prescriptions go up every year (right now its $350/30/15), so once I have my yearly checkups, I have to get sick before my insurance will pay anything.
My husband is British, and he thinks our healthcare system is completely ridiculous.

Even better than the trip through the American South?
I laughed till I had tears in my eyes on that one!!!

My husband is still looking for stable work (not on call)...not necessarily full-time (although it would be nice). I make enough for the basics (rent, food, utilities, bills), but we want to have more than a few dollars extra at the end of each month.
He has been looking almost non-stop for a year and a half. He gets hired seasonal, but nothing pans out. His biggest problems for the jobs for which he is qualified is his age (not being a teenager) and the inablility to speak a second language. The jobs he has gotten in the States (as well as his former job in the UK where he worked for 12 years) have given him glowing references, but that doesn't seem to help. He has gone back to school, but he can reaarange his school hours if necessary.
Is anyone else out there having as much trouble finding stable employment?

I guess we had better never move away from SW Orlando...we are lucky enough to be close to the tourist corridor to have a decent selection at our supermarket...and my husband is lucky enough to have a brother-in-law that makes Christmas pudding every year...

Met online in late March, met in person late June, officially engaged early October (when we realised that we couldn't live without each other )

This is very good to know. I don't have much longer on my US passport, and I didn't know if I could still use it since I changed my last name.

We have quite a few shops around here (SW Orlando), ostensibly for the visiting tourists (but we never complain). Between the International Food Market (a whole side room with nothing but British goods), our supermarket with a seven-foot section in the international aisle, and several small specialty shops, we're set!
Darren has me addicted to Aero bars (both regular and mint)...evil man...

Darren called me after the interview (4AM)...He was quite relieved ("That was it!?!?), but I cried like a baby!
