  1. A green card, and a re-entry permit which the color is green is not the same thing! READ CAREFULLY! I am helping you.

A green card doesn't inherently allow you to re-enter the US. You need the re-rentry permit as well.

This is the biggest load of misinformation I have seen in a long time....

Unless you are planning to be outside the USA for more than 12 months you do NOT need a re-entry permit... all you need is your valid Greencard and a valid Passport... you do not need to use the US-Visit system when entering or departing and on return you go through the USC/Residents line at Immigration.. you dont need to complete an I-94 only the white Customs form....

A Greencard does inherently allow for re-entry to the US and is work authorized....

    Have a good trip home

    Kez

    Exactly.

Green card is "Permanent Residence" authorize to work, stay, travel. Re- Entry permit is needed if you stay out of US for over a period of time specified in USCIS terms which is 12 months. have a good trip my friend even im traveling on april wont be applying for a re- entry permit because i wont be out of US for more then 4 weeks.

  2. Hey guys received my Green Card today.

It was an experience of this whole process and one more to come after 2 years.

I want to thank all of you here for helping and making this process less painful by sharing information, feelings, emotions, frustration and what not, So i want to wish you all good luck and especially to everyone who are still waiting. I will see most of you in the other forum of "Lifting Condition" in less then 2 years.

    Thank you again for everything.

  3. United States Citizenship and Immigration. or you can just write USCIS

Oh scur is not ( you might forgot) it is:

    U.S. Department of Homeland Security

If you remember in the instruction they wrote to write whole sentence no short, so spell everything exactly and not USDHS.

    Need to be:

    U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Haha i wrote all my checks as in short "USCIS" and it got processed. Im confused.

  4. - Send 3 checks (I-485, I-131, I-765)=1010$, biometrics and I-130.I used personal checks its easier to track.

Didnt file i-131 dont have much idea about it.

    3 checks??????

    Mistake,

i sent my biometrics separate 80 $ which added to 930$ AOS is total of 1010$. so Biometrics, AOS and I-130... if you are in K1 then i guess you wont have to send I-130. So just 2 or make that 1010$ just one.

  5. Good advise, I saw a quick green card yesterday on another board, maybe the added fees ars starting to produce results.

And can you add country and filed for to your profile?

All is great here except the severely misleading title of the topic. You've described a quite normal three month green card approval process not one of a month and a half.

As already mentioned, a biometrics appointment isn't an approval.

Exactly. I guess there are lota other people with 3 months approval. I fall in 4 months of which im not in a K-1 visa, had an RFE which i mailed it a month later. But hey Biometric's not an approval. Its a good topic for new AOS filers. Please update your timeline.

  6. If you are entering with a K1, you can have a simple civil wedding (in front of a magistrate) right away and start filing your AOS. You can then take your time to plan your grand church ceremony. This church ceremony will no longer be called a wedding but an affirmation of your vows. It's the civil wedding that counts with USCIS as it's the one that makes you legally husband and wife.

Exactly. You are in a K-1 so having a civil ceremony wont be a problem. i did the same and you can take pictures too. Lot of people dont belive in marriage or even wearing a ring and changing their last name its not USCIS's concern. If you can prove them its a legit marriage i dont think you will have any problems.

  7. I dont know how you can track your case cause you dont have receipt number or anything...when i applied first and my package was there for more then a month no check cashed nothing...and i got my packet back saying insufficient fee, So i had to refile it again with proper fee that was back July 2007. Anyway so when i tried to track my case i had nothing then USPS tracking no which is not guaranteed. So yes i waited patiently for about 2 months.

I dont know if you can make a Info pass on this or even call your congressman . So wait someone with knowledge about this will post here.

    That's a load of #######.

You don't need a greencard to open a bank account. There's nothing about that in the Patriot Act.

    Find another bank.

What Becca said. I didn't even have my Social Security number yet when hubby and I went to open a joint account in my first week here at his bank, Regions. All they wanted to look at was my passport. They laughed when I showed them our marriage cert just to prove we were really married.

  9. Hi -

Just curious if anyone else who filed in December has received their interview date for the AOS? I ask this because today in the mail my husband received the notice with an interview date in March (March 26th to be exact!!)....

I am happy but a little concerned as we have not even received the EAD - which means we have no social security number yet --- which means we have not been able to put him on the bank accounts and the utilities (in the state I live the social security number is required to add to the utilities....)

Am I worrying for no reason?? Does this sound normal to have the interview date prior to EAD??

    Any comments are appreciated!!!

    Thanks,

    Malarie

I applied for AOS on OCT 2007 and had an RFE and sent it back and didnt get any response for couple of weeks and well i got my Interview letter in the mail last week and i dont have EAD card yet so i guess we just gotta wait or just get done with the interview and hassle free of EAD. Wish you best of luck.

PS: most of the bank dosent ask you for your SSN if you have a passport and a valid visa.

  10. My AOS was touched TWICE today. Still no decision. Is it common to have it touched twice in one day?

Sure, first when they brought it out of the box and opened it up for review... the second time to record the RFE request.... :)

    Hilarious!!

Its ok to have couple of touches a day cause say the guy took your file was working on it and then he had his lunch hr so he came back and again scanned your file to work back on it so you have touches.

  11. Hi everybody,

We will have our second aniversary in July 20. I have noticed that some cases took just 4 months to have the AOS interview aproved, in my case I sent our AOS in december and we received the NOA in January. If it take about 4 months problably we will receive the 2 years card and not 10 years and we will lose money aplying for lifting condition, then we would like to know if us received a RFE how many days we have to send it back without has the case abandoned or denied?

Please answer me, because I think we need one, If yes pray for us get a RFE.

    Thank you all

    Good Luck for all us

I see you have a very confusing questions.

If you havent sent some supporting documents or have nt signed one of the forms or something that makes the USCIS to issue you a RFE then they will and its 87 days for you to send back from the date quoted on your RFE, So if you wanna hang into that RFE and send it according to your timing of 2 yrs anniv. its all upto you but the catch here is not everyone's case gets processed fast.. some are here for past 2 yrs and more and some get their interview or transfer and the GC within 3 months of applying. So its your luck and its all upto you to prolong your case or stick to it and pay an extra couple of hundred $ for renewal for 10 yrs.

  12. Thanks Scur

I hope your experience will be better than mine. I will just have to wait and see if anything comes in the mail anytime soon.

Thank you so much for your review, it is really means alot to all us.

I am crossing my fingers for you, and hope that everything is gonna work out!

i hope everything goes well and lets hope for me and saratara we dont get that women there as our IO. and Thank you for taking time and posting your experience.
