  1. I sent an email to the Consulate in Montreal today and received a generic email back. My last email to them re: interview date was on Oct. 1/07. In your opinion, will I get an interview date before the beginning of December? it's hard to plan anything - i'm selling my condo and want to choose a closing date.

    Good Morning Montreal Consulate,

Would you be able to provide an update as to when I might receive the notice of my interview date? Any information would be helpful.

    Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your inquiry. If your inquiry concerns a case where the I-130 petition was filed at a U.S. Consulate in Canada, please be aware that there is a high volume of cases waiting to be scheduled for appointments. Resource shortages may delay processing for 4-5 months after we receive notification that you have all of your required documents. Thank you for your patience.

In order to serve applicants faster, we do not respond to inquiries requesting confirmation of receipt of documents or faxes, nor will we be able to answer multiple inquiries about the same issue. Some applicants call on the phone, send an e-mail and a fax to ask the same question or a variation of the question. We have a small number of employees who respond to all the inquiries. It only delays the service we can provide if you make multiple inquiries. We will not respond to multiple e-mail inquiries asking a duplicate question.

If NVC sent you a letter stating that your file is complete and it has been sent to Montreal for scheduling, the file has NOT actually been sent to Montreal but it is waiting at NVC until an appointment can be scheduled. We currently have a 4-5 month wait for scheduling appointments after receipt of the OF-230 part 1. You will receive an appointment letter in the mail when your appointment has been scheduled by NVC. You can expect to receive this appointment letter several weeks before your appointments. Please remember to bring ORIGINAL documents of birth, marriage, divorce certificates, etc.

If your inquiry is regarding processing of an immigrant visa for a case where the petition was filed in the U.S. and it has not been scheduled for an appointment, please send your inquiry directly to the National Visa Center (NVC). To contact NVC, please forward your inquiries by email to: NVCInquiry@state.gov. If you have been informed by USCIS that your petition has been approved and forwarded to the Department of State, please contact NVC directly.

If you are inquiring about a new family member whom you wish to add on to an approved petition stored at NVC, please contact NVC in writing providing petitioner and beneficiary's names and dates of birth, case number, receipt number, and copy of birth certificate. To contact NVC by phone, you must call between 8:00 am-8:45 pm, Monday-Friday, Eastern Standard Time (EST). It may be easier to reach NVC during the morning. Follow the prompts to speak with an operator. Telephone: 603-334-0700. You may also inquire via facsimile - Fax: 603-334-0791.

You can learn more about immigrant visas, in general, and the National Visa Center, in particular, at

    Thank you.

  2. Welcome! Looks like I have a buddy again on the waiting list!..woo hoo!, all the K-1's have interview dates, I was starting to feel lonely...LOL..

Im the USC, so technically this is my husbands process, yet I seem to be doing all the work!..:lol:

....hope we both hear something soon! good luck!

Yes - i noticed that!! this waiting sucks big time! keep you posted!

  3. I had 2 police checks done - one is each district that i've lived in... one searched through Metropolitan Police b/c I've lived in Toronto for many years since I was a kid and one searched through Peel Regional Police b/c I lived in Mississauga for a couple of years as well. Both department search "CPIC", which I thought was sufficient, however, I'm reading some of the posts and it seems that many of you went through the RCMP for the police check - do i also need a police check done through the RCMP?? Help!

  4. Also consider that you may not only be getting rid of a maid of honour but also the loss of a friend.

i went through something similar - it was very disappointing - i decided to have a talk with her seeing as she had been a friend since we were kids. all is great now - she didn't realize the way she was acting and how unsupportive she was being. she was awesome on the wedding day. Can you have a talk with her? tell her that you expected more from her and that you are hurt. be calm - you'll get your point across and hopefully have a great maid of honour in the end.

  5. Hi there - sounds like you're all ready....the interview is a non event in my opinion....just a little something to keep us on our toes :)

Thank you to all who replied!!! i'm so glad that i registered here! very helpful info - oh, and i'm not a hockey fan so feel free to keep bashing the leafs - hehe

  6. Bienvenue a VJ and our little nook of it. (I suppose that makes it VJ day for you?) This is a very supportive environment with some very knowledgeable people and a few people like me. :D K visas are speeding up so you should be prepared. You can't get your SSN yet but please take solace in the fact that it won't be long now.

Great to know - thank you! had my medical, received police checks, etc. we're prepared, just waiting on montreal now! thanks for the info!

  10. Hello - just introducing myself. I am a Canadian living in Toronto and moving to New York to be with my hubby. We, like many of you, are anxiously awaiting receipt of our interview date letter from the us montreal consulate. we sent our packet 3 back to the montreal consulate on aug. 2/07 - it's been 2.5 months. montreal tells us that we should receive our interview letter by late nov., early dec. (so approx. 4 months from packet 3) - does this sound about right or can we expect to wait even longer? also, may i apply for a social security number before i enter the us on our k3 visa? please and thank you!

  11. As a future Montreal interviewee, you must learn the following phrase.... repeat after me.....

No matter how many crazy looks I get, when I enter the elevator at the Montreal Consulate, I must turn around and face the back.

Welcome to VJ! And come find us in the Canadian Forum!

    K - i will do that! : ) THANKS!

  12. Hi everyone, just registered today. i'm finding a lot of useful info. still waiting on our interview. it's been 2.5 months since we sent back packet 3 to montreal. this wait is not easy. it's helpful to read that there are many in the same boat. have a great sunday
