  1. I did IT for 8 years before switching back to GIS/CADD. I augmented my income by fixing employee's home computers for cookies, gift certificates, etc.. I would never work for a company that had a manager that insisted on documenting time spent on 15 minute intervals either. Do companies hire CIOs with any practical experience?

  2. A nice website that has some information useful for anyone contemplating a relationship with a filipina; http://www.asawa.org/ .

I didn't see it when I came into Manila's int'l airport but there is supposed to be a exchange counter (just past customs?) to pickup some local currency. If possible it would be good to have some local currency available if you are taking a taxi to your hotel. I arrived around midnight and expected an almost empty airport; I was grossly wrong, it was a madhouse. You have to jockey for a place next to the baggage claim areas; don't be shy. Funny this was similar to how it was in the stores where you check your bags and pickup later when finished shopping.

Unemployment is definitely higher than in the US (for now). As the other posters here have said, there is a definite bias for younger workers but the stores hire lots more saleswomen than stores in the US. In one SM store there were at least 6 or 8 people (all young light-skined women) working in just the shoe department.

I'm not sure how to comment about the possibility of your girlfriend being a virgin. If you love her I don't really see it as an issue whether she is or not.

Read and learn as much as you can about your girlfriends country before traveling there. It will make your trip much more enjoyable.

  3. Is it difficult for my gf to get her passport in the philippines on her own or is it advisable to go through a travel agency there? She was told about having to go through an interview on her own but if she used a travel agency she wouldn't have to interview.

    Thanks

My wife was able to schedule an appointment on the internet. She thought the officials held her up for additional fees. Take some extra money just in case.

  4. I'm not sure about Rice's sexual preferences but I did see Pres. Bush put a lips on lips kiss on her. Maybe Pres. Bush will give McCain the 'inside' story on Condi and she'll be given a roll in the next administration. She really should be included in the next administration just to have some continuity in the anti-terrorist knowledge base.

McCain might pull a real maverick move and select Lieberman as his VP. It's amazing McCain has a chance with the state of the economy and the mismanagement of the Iraq war. Oh well, that just goes to show the sorry state the dems are in. Maybe Howard Dean will come up with another bright idea on how to screw up the election this fall so the dems have no chance at all. :bonk:

  5. I've seen lots of worms in chickens when the district agent came to our farm and disected a chicken to check to see if they were infected. The company that we used to raise chickens for gave us medicines which we put into the chicken's drinking water to eliminate the worms. Hopefully the chemicals in the de-worming med was less harmful than the worms.

I've also seen some really large worms in fish we caught off the Florida east coast. I was really surprised to see how large these had gotten but the guy filleting the fish said it was normal and just sort of striped them out of the flesh.

In my opinion, a lot of the religious restrictions come from rules religious leaders created hundreds or thousands of years ago to protect their people's health due to poor cooking or preservation practices. People still use incense in religious ceremonies also. This probably originated to lessen the stench of the body odor of people who hadn't bathed in weeks or months. If people don't want to eat certain foods or scratch a particular part of their body, it really doesn't matter as long as they don't try to force others to do the same.

  6. I'm not sure why the question was worded as if Obama was behind in delegates and popular vote. It really should have read, "Do you think Hillary Clinton should drop out of the Democratic primary". According to most news reports she is very unlikely to equal Obama's delegate totals after all the primaries are completed and almost as equally unlikely to lead in popular vote. The poor decision making by the leadership of the Democratic party has really been exposed during this primary,,,,yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, hooray for Deano disenfrancising the voters of Florida and Michigan.

  7. Checked again today and it shows today's date 03/26/08:

    03/26/2008 I129F

    02/24/2008 I130

I guess this is what everyone is calling touches? I login and check my portfolio every evening but really haven't expected to see any changes yet. I submitted the I-130 last fall but it was returned because of some silly errors I made. I don't think that would matter since I didn't receive the NOA1 until 02/12/2008.

I have email notifications turned on but haven't gotten any emails from USCIS.

  8. Got a touch today 03/25/2008. I've checked my portfolio everyday for the past month and was expecting to see the same dates again. Funny how a change in a date can give hope until I started thinking I'd probably get a RFE in the mail next week; maybe not. Maybe it just fell into the floor and they had to put all the pages back in order except for the 1st page of the I129f form which is still under their coworker's desk.

  9. They're not making babies :protest: go go go make more babies and forget how raise them.

    Best solution: Removed Amendment IV.

Citizenship should only available by US citizenship parent and or naturalization.

If the US moved the border further south, latinos in northern mexico wouldn't have to cross the border or put up with being called illegals,,they would have instant citizenship. If people continued to cross the border, move it south again; all the way to tierra del fuego if necessary. If the people south of the US were happy with their life and goverments, they wouldn't have to travel into another country to improve their lives so lets bring US to them.

  10. Hello All,

If filing the IR1/CR1, should the applicant file I-130s (along with the $355 processing fee) for each child who will accompany the beneficiary? Should this be done at the same time the I-130 is filed for the spouse?

Under the K3 visa, the children have derivative status so they automatically are included as K4s as long as they are listed on the I129f application. Once they arrive in the US, the I130 can be filed along witht he adjustment of status for around $1000 per person. If the I-130s for the children are filed after the I-130/I-129f have been filed for the spouse, would that delay the K3 processing?

If the processing time is extended by 2-3 months at the NVC for the IR1/CR1 vs. the K3, then I would rather pay the additional fees and be reunited with my wife and children earlier.

  11. I've used PNB's (Philippine Natiional Bank) remit which is available online. Their website is: http://www.pnbrci.com. So, if your spouse lives in the phils, you can send the funds either to a bank account or they can pick it up at one of PNB's branches. The cost per transaction is based on the amount but is typically less than $10. I've used other services like WU in the past but PNB's has the lowest cost of fees,,so far.

I also setup a joint accout with my wife at PNB to make the transfers and I think a shared bank account/finances is part of the information listed on USCIS's list to show you have a bona fide relationship. I expect to support my family when they arrive here so I don't really see any difference in supporting them while they are still in the phils.

  12. what happens if the children of your spouse don't wish to come to live in the US but would rather stay in their home country?

Does one still list them on the I-130 and if so because the children don't wish to come, one just doesn't fill out an individual I-130 for each of them nor a I-864?

I have carefully studied the directions for the I-130 and this particular situation is not addressed.

Actually, it is addressed in that an I-130 petition is for an individual. You would not petition for an individual who has no intent to immigrate to the US. The issue you describe comes up on the I-129F where listing children implies but does not confirm they also intend to immigrate.

    C. Information about your alien relative (continued)

    17. List husband/wife and all children of your relative.

(Name) (Relationship) (Date of Birth) (Country of Birth)

this is from the .pdf of Form I-130 (Rev. 07/30/07)Y Page 2

You are correct. It is also on Form I-129F (Rev. 07/30/07) Y Page 2 as shown below.

Part B. Information about your alien fiancé(e). (Continued.)

    13. List all children of your alien fiancé(e) (if any)

Name (First/Middle/Last) Date of Birth (mm/dd/yyyy) Country of Birth Present Address

So the basic idea is fill in what is requested but to NOT send in a completed I-130 for each child, no?

I'm not sure how relevant it is to this thread but according to the website listed below, it would be best to file the I-130(s) for each child concurrently with your wife's. There have been several postings here about the K3 being abandoned. If your stepchild(ren) have the K4 derivative status through the K3 (as long as they are listed on the I129f), do they lose that if the K3 is abandoned? http://www.visalaw.com/05oct2/2oct205.html

  13. Hi 2ond Journey,

may i know whats the NOtice date in YOUR NOA1?

    thanks....

The hardcopy has a "Notice Date:" of February 12, 2008 and Received Date of February 18, 2008. I made a mistake and sent the I-130 to the Tx Center instead of the Chicago lockbox (USCIS made a change in early Dec. 2007 on where to send the I-130s). This may have delayed getting the NOA some.

Correction, receive date was January 18th, 2008.

  14. Hi, yes, I too have just embarked upon this horrible process. I mailed my I-130 on Jan. 7 by FedEx. It was received and signed for 2 days later (the FedEx planes did not leave for Chicago on 1/7!). That is all I know for now.

I have done so much research on this - in fact, the lawyer I paid to look over my paperwork cut his price in half because he said I had done everything perfectly! - but even since then I have discovered so many things that could have been done differently.

For example, I just learned today that you should put your photos in a plastic bag. Didn't do that. Didn't photocopy the *back* of my birth certificate either - there is nothing on it!

And someone on this forum was saying that you could file the I-130 and the I-129 TOGETHER! Every other source I have seen plus the lawyers I spoke with all said you had to wait for the receipt of the I-130 to file the I-129. AARGH - it is frustrating that no matter how much research I do, there is always something new about this process.

Just trying to keep a sense of humor about it all.

Thank you for starting this thread! I had just logged on to do the same. I think we are going to need all the support we can get!

Cheers - and I look forward to getting to know you and others in the same boat over the next 6... 9... 12? months,

    B.B.

The month is still young, but I thought I would create a January I-130 thread where we can give each other support, chart our progress, etc.

I just sent my I-130 today by Express Mail.

Any other January filers? Stand up and be counted!!!

    Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the correct location to post our NOA 1 date but it finally arrived today, February 15th, 2008. Thank you. cieloazul

  15. Mailed I130 on 15th and it was received in the Tx processing center on the 18th. This is a resubmittal after making a mistake on signatures on the 1st submittal. It took 2 months to get the submittal back with the USCIS checklist indicating the reason it was rejected.

The check has not been cashed as of today, January 28th, 2008.
