  1. Hi everyone its been a while since I posted here! My fiancee and I are filling in our form for our marriage licence. I was thinking this would be a simple matter, but now I'm confused. She wants to move her now last name to be her new middle name. I guess this is the practice in the Philippines. Will this be allowed here in the USA, since all her immigration forms state her middle name already, can she go and change her middle name AND last name once we are married??? OR,....Should we just stick to the formality in the USA and just have her take my last name and keep the middle name she has now??? Thanks for the help!!!

yes this is allowed in the USA. My wife's old last name is now her middle name.

  2. thanks :dance::star: i cant remember if i place a check on my ds230 questionare that i wanted to apply for ssn no card to be mailed at home ..and before i went to social security office today i called them and the rep said i need to apply personally...so today i went to berkeley ca ss office and applied one..im just worried that my ssn # will have 2 different nos.. and if thats the case who should i inform then?

how long did u get the ss card and green card too..for example lucky u got 10 year green card..will u still file adjustment of status

Dont worry, you wont get 2 social security numbers. They will cross-reference your name. If you already have one, they wont issue you another one.

We got our SS card and 2 year conditional green card in two weeks. And no we dont have to file for Adjustment of status. We're CR1s... We're already adjusted! :-)

Also you mentioned a 10 year GC.... 90 days before your conditional GC expires, you have to file for "Lifting Conditions" (Form I-751). After filing, they will mail you a new 10 year Green Card.

For people with IR1 and NOT CR1, meaning they were married for 2 years or more, before the beneficiary's POE, they automatically get a 10 year GC at POE. Im assuming this is the case for lucky u.

  3. just like to inquire about applying social security...i called there toll free no and they said i have to apply personally because of the type of visa i had "cr1" is that true? because me and dad went to berkeley today and applied one ...they said they will mail it within 7-14 business days...thanks..im a bit worid though if the sss is automatic or applied personally..i just followed what the rep said...thanks again (im scared that if i did the wrong way my social security no is doubled.)

In the DS-230 application form that was submitted to NVC, the applicant can indicate if he/she wants the officer at POE to automatically process the applicant's SS card.

If this is not the case, then you must go to a SSA office and apply yourself.

BTW... WELCOME to the USA Jonah!!!

  4. FYI... I've just reported this thread to the site administrators to see the legitimacy of the location of the OP.

    To the OP....

If everything you said is true, please follow the advice of everyone here. They all mean well. Nothing can happen to you. We have laws here in the US to protect everyone, including people in between immigrant status. All you need to do is dial 911 and report what happened.

  5. "we live in colorado i hitted him with the glass and it broke on his stomach made deep wound on him before he could put his handkerchief to my face that made me dizzy fell in the floor the next thing i wake up im naked............... "

Don't know about this. Sounds a bit fishy! Actually I hope it is!!!

I have the same feeling. I hope this is a hoax. The site administrator can tell the IP address of the OP to see if it is indeed in Colorado. Im gonna send him an email now. This is a serious matter.

  6. Forgot to add. Her answer to "have you ever had a bf other than your currnent fiancee?" was "No"

Is that hard to believe of a 23 yo Filipina, that has been busy with college getting a 4 year degree, and a professional certification?

Filipinos are very social creatures so it is a bit unusual for a filipina of 23 years to have NEVER had a BF. It is NOT that hard to believe though.

Sorry about the problems you're having. I dont see the relevance of the question to the K1 visa. I mean so what if she did have a BF?

  7. I read a post about someone who referred to himself or herself as a half-breed, and it made me ponder, what is the best way to describe a child who is half Filipino heritage, and half white American? I certainly would not tell someone he is a half-breed, and a Filipino-American is a Pinoy who is now an American. Thoughts? Maybe Amrinoy, I think Mestizo is just used in the Philippines, is it best to just say American or something that shows pride in his entire heritage?

    Fil-Am, Fil-American, Filipino-American, or simply American.

I would not use half-breed on anyone. It sounds like we're describing dogs.

  8. 1.) as soon as u know your MNL case number, pay doc verification fee at metrobank.

HOW? read sheriff uling's post for details about paying doc verification fee at metrobank and how to text the infos found at the receipt to delbros.

WHEN TO PAY THE FEE? 1 month (or more than 1 month) before your interview date at the usem.

Sorry... Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed but I had to say something because this type of post is why sooo many people gets confused and EVEN MORE frustrated.

If you are going to get a white slip, you're going to get a white slip.

In our case, we paid Delbros two weeks before the interview, did not do anything else and we did not get a white slip. Our interview lasted a few minutes and got our visa in a few days.

Some people pay a month or even more in advance, bugs Delbdros, bugs NSO, bugs the US embassy and gets a white slip.

My advice to people... Just do what the US embassy ask of you. Follow its direction. Its simple. after that, just chill. Like I said, you're going to get a white slip if you're going to get a white slip. OR....

You could do whats being adviced here and in sooo many other post to call and fax the heck out of US Embassy, Delbros, and NSO. If doing all these makes you sleep better.

But dont believe anyone who says this is how you "AVOID white slip".

  9. i kinda think its gona be hard for us too especially we only have 2 weeks to stay in phil... getting married in the church is mom's wish also thats why we're doing it in the church or w/ the priest... i guess if we can really pull it off, hopefully we can

I got married in the Philippines last year and I could tell you that even three weeks is pushing it. When I got married, I spent a month in the Philippines and we barely made it.

Here's a link to the American Embassy's guide to getting married in the PI for American citizens. It is pretty accurate.

  10. Form G-325 A (Husband):
    • Father: city and country of residence is unknown. Do I put: UNKNOWN or leave blank?
    • Full name and address of employer: I am a retired veteran. What do I put here?

I'd just write the last known city and coutry of residence for father. The form isnt rally being too specific. Just city and country.

    I'd put RETIRED

    Form G-325 A (Wife):
    • Social Security number: I don't have one yet. What do I put here? (I have Social Security Number issued by the Philippine Government.)
    • Address: My last address was my home address in the Philippines, and I lived there for more than five years. How do I fill this out? Total time in that house, or just back five years from the date I left for Thailand?
    • I have no previous husbands. What do I put? N/A or None?
    • Last question asking what the form is being submitted for: I'm immigrating to the US to be with my husband permanently. What do I specify?
    • In the very first and very last boxes that ask for my name: Should I use my maiden name or my married name? Or does it matter?

    Put "NONE" on social security.

You will have to put places that you've lived in the ;ast five years regardless of where it is.

Put "NONE" on the previous husband.

In the question about what the form is for... tyype "I-130 Petition"

It doesnt matter what name you use. maried or maiden is fine but you'll have to DECIDE NOW which name you want to use and be consistent throughout the whole process.

  11. I'll try to answer some of your questions.

    General Questions:
    • Husband's Passport copy for I-130:
    • Color or black and white?
    • All pages from cover to cover?

We submitted colored but its ok if its black & white too. You just need to copy the front of the passport where it shows the signature and all biographical inormation suchs as name, birth date, etc.

    Passport photos for I-130:
    • 1 photo each, or two?
    • Wife's Passport vitae for I-130 and G-325A:
    • Should she have her passport amended to reflect her married name, or is it okay with her maiden name still in it?

We submitted two passport photos. Your wife could use married or maiden name. It doesnt really matter which one you use as long as your consistent on all your forms.

In our case, we used my wife's married name on the I-130 application. Then she got a new Philippine passport with her new married name.

    Form I-130:

    Section B:

    • Questions 14 & 14b: N/A or leave blank? Does not apply to me, natural citizen
    Section C:
    • Question 2: Her address in Thailand? Or her home address in the Philippines? If in Thailand, would it not be redudant since it requests her address abroad in Question 19?
    • Questions 9 & 10: N/A or None? Should be None?
    • Question 14: N/A or leave blank?
    • Question 21: Our place here in Thailand, how do we date from 14 April 2008 to present?
    • Question 22: N/A or leave blank?
    • Last question asking what the form is being submitted for: I'm filling this form out to bring my wife stateside so we can be together. What do I specify?

Put N/A on 14 & 14b. DO NOT leave anything blank or you will get na RFE.

On 9 & 10, Im assuming this related to you. If it is the answers would be none and none.

On question 21... Yes. you'll need to write present IF that is the case.

Again, put N/A on 22. DO NOT leave anything blank.

  12. I used USPS Global Express for everything and didn't have any problems 5 different times. One was even a laptop!! Guess I was lucky as I've heard others weren't. Other stuff I sent not via Global Express but by USPS wasn't that lucky. Wasn't that important tho.

Just sent a USPS 4 pound Global Express small box yesterday. Cost was $43 US. Ouch!!!

USPS subcontract Fedex for their USPS Global Express.

  13. Hi, My wife is going to have her Manila embassy interview Aug 22, she is getting worried about if they will accept copies of all the original documents, I-864, W2's, paystubs, Ds-230, has anyone had there interview there at Manila and can tell me if it is ok for her to just have copies of all the original documents even though we gave all originals to NVC?

    Thanks again for your help:-)

My wife just had copies of the DS-230, I-864, and W2s but she had original NSO papers (her birth certificate, etc) with her.

I know that the US embassy website is asking for original documents but how could you provide original I-864 and DS-230 when they have the originals?

I think your wife would be fine with the I-864, W2, and DS-230 copies but if she can, she should go to NSO and NBI offices and original papers there. Just to be safe.

To be honest, my wife's consul officer DID NOT ask for a single document. She said everything I submitted to NVC was with the consul officer. The only thing they asked for was a few photos.

  14. hi guys thanks for the info. yes i am doing an advance research on that cus me and my fiance are planning to come back here in PI also to have a small wedding for my relatives here in PI and also im planning to have a surgery as well. now its clear to me that i have to apply AOS with EAD and AP (basing on gabriela's suggestion)

    correct me if im wrong...

do you have idea guys how long do they approve this? are the AOS with EAD and AP really has to be all in one filing?

i guess im starting to learn new things with regards to our K1 journey.

    Good news....

There's a reason why K1 is soooo much faster to process than CR1 visas (About 6 to 9 months faster in general). And that reason is because there's almost no processing involved with K1. Much of the processing happens when the beneficiary gets here in the US.

    Bad news...

Since "the processing" just starts when the petitioner and beneficiary gets married here in the states, and since you will be dealing with government agencies afterwards, there's really no telling how long till you get your AP or green card. There's too many variables involved.

    My .02

If surgery is involve and you have to have that surgery in the PI, you might want to re-think your travel plans. I think K1 visas are valid for 6 months.

  15. just wandering how long does it take for the DHS to send ou green cards?been in the states for 3 weeks now,no word on green card and ssn.thanks

My wife got her green card and SS card in two weeks. You should get yours any day now.

got my greencard yesterday thank god hope u will receive yours soon. god bless

Congrats Mhay! Driver's License next?! he he

  16. 1. If I understand properly, CR1 visa holders do not have to file for AOS. So basically all we have to do is wait for my wife's Green Card and SS card to arrive in the mail after we enter the U.S. After 2 years (90 days before) we have to file to remove her conditional status. Other than that, we just have to file change of address forms when we move. Is this correct?

You are correct. You do not have to file AOS. At your wife's point of entry, the officer will probably tell your wife to wait for her green card and SS card in a few weeks.

In our case, my wife received her green card and SS card in the mail in about two weeks.

The gren card that your wife will receive is conditiona and will expire in 2 years. 90 days before that expiration, you and your wife will have to file for "Lifting conditions". If that gets approve, your wife should get her 10 year green card.

    2. At first I thought we had to file the form I-551 after we arrived. Now I understand that the I-551 is the green card itself and will be sent to us automatically. Is this correct?

    Correct. See #1

    3. When my wife goes through immigration at the airport, what documents does she need to get back from the immigration officials? I've read of a few cases of people not getting back the right documents at the POE and then having some trouble filing documents later on.

I was with my wife at her POE and all they gave her was a "Welcome to the US" letter. They also stamped her visa. That's all.

  17. I could understand those Filipinos who can't speak the language if they were born in the US or if they went there when they were still very very young but for those who went to the US when they are already teenagers or even adults (and have only been in the US for a matter of 1-2years) and then pretend they can't speak or have forgotten how to speak tagalog/or their native dialect anymore, I just think it is BS.

My aunts have been in the USA for 20++ years but they are still well versed in Tagalog and their Igorot dialect. My cousin who is half Filipino Igorot-half Singaporean and who was born in the US knows how to speak the igorot dialect (medium used in their home).. and one vjer friend (Lucian's girl) who have been in the US for 17 years now still knows how to speak and write Tagalog (i wouldn't have known she is Filipino if she didn't reply to one of my post before using tagalog word). I also have many other friends who have been working in the US, UK and other english speaking countries but they still speak Bisaya fluently without twang.

I'm a pinoy and been here in the US since 86 (22 years). And up until the last couple of years I wasnt living in a filipino community or household. But I havent forgotten how to speak tagalog. As a matter of fact, when I speak Tagalog, most people cant tell Im from the US.

My sister was 6 and my brother was 8 years old when we moved to New York City. When they speak English you cant tell they're filipinos. When they speak Tagalog you cant tell that they grew up here in the states.

Also I have many many cousins born here in the US that knows how to speak tagalog fluently.

I do agree with you that its BS. I remember meeting a Filipino once here in LA. He's been here in the US for only 2 years and claims he had forgotten how to speak Tagalog. But I dont think he realized that I've been here in the US a while and even went to College here in the US. So after conversing with him in English for about 5 minutes, he started remembering how to speak in Tagalog and gave up. :-)

My wife told me they have the exact same mentality in Philippines. She grew up in Mindanao and she says there's quite a few people from Mindanao who suddenly cannot remember how to speak Visaya after being/living in Manila for only a few years. That also is BS.

  18. My husband is Filipino and one of the hardest working people I have ever met. Posting negative stereotypes like that accomplishes nothing and should be kept to yourself. It would do you some good to remember this forum is not strictly made up of American males and their Filipina wives. If you want to say things like that to make yourself feel better post it at the website where there are more of your ilk, but not here please.

I think the stereotype were planted in his mind by the pinay wifey/fiance who seems to have forgotten her father is a pinoy.

  19. And about that FILIPINO HUSBANDS ARE LAZY??? come on you should think WAAAAY better than that...how could you come up with a generalization like that?! My future husband is by the way, a first Lieutenant in the U.S. army, a FILIPINO, at age 35 :) worked his way so hard just to be who he is now (whom i'm sooo very proud of)....did i mention that he's a war vet too??? So watch it dude!

I've noticed this on a lot of Fil-am sites and forums. There seem to be quite a few pinays telling their american fiance's or americans in general that Filipinos are lazy, wife beater, etc. That this is why they are on a so and so site.

From my own observations, reading more into their posts, it seems most of these women feel they "have to" justify dating foreign men and feel the need to exaggerate a bit. Some of these women even feel the need to justify why their on dating site to begin with.

But its not true. Filipino men are not wife beaters, lazy, or whatever.
