as example of secondary evidence (birth certi.) :how long is the affidavit valid from the date of issue if we get a notarized affidavit from a close relative or parent on the appropriate stamp paper which must be sworn before a first class magistrate.

my husband went to the VFS office in chandigarh and they took very few documents from him. they accepted marriage certificate, form 156, copy of passport, police clearance, birth certificate. they told him that everything else has to be submitted on the day of the interview.

so, i think it all depends on the vfs office you go to.

well i called vfs -mumbai today and they told me

Visit the visa application centre no earlier than 10 working days and no less than 7 working days before the scheduled interview appointment for submission.

ours was issued on october 11th and we just got it today October 18

i will find out if they sent it by regular postal or courier service and all other details if u like

what is the wait time for mumbai-packet 4 once it is issued from the consulate?

Yes it is confusing but I would go with the written instructions that the Consulate sends directly to the applicant, in Packet 4 (10-15 working days).

It's 15-10 BUSINESS / WORKING days. You must submit within that period. Essentially you have only 6 days.

In B'lore they would not take the relationship evidence, they said take them to the interview.

They took the Police cert. and Birth Cert. and notarized I-134, copy of PP. and Rs. 365 the courier fee.

from what i have read for cr1 we do have to pay courier fee in cash at our local vfs office when we submit the docs. 1 week or 10 days before the interview .......i dont know whether we need to pay anything besides this......would appreciate if seniors could help!!!

How to Pay

An applicant can pay any immigrant visa fee in Indian rupees by demand draft at the Embassy or a consulate. The demand draft should be made out to the "U.S. Embassy, New Delhi", "U.S. Consulate General, Chennai", "U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata", or "U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai".

An applicant can also pay any immigrant visa fee in cash or demand draft in U.S. dollars at the Embassy or a consulate.

I would still verify with them to make sure but this is the info they have posted.

I guess for CR / IR case there is Direct pack 4.... by the way what is the difference between pack 3 and pack 4... can any one tell me... hey dimp when was ur case completed... and PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN your hubby gets packet 4 and most important through which kind of mail.... normal or courier service

pac 3 consists of ds-230 again ;whch needs to be filled and mailed back to consulate and gives us the list of all the socs. needed for the interview.....whereas pac 4 has appointment letter and pac 4 is also needed for medicals and has the necessary details /instructions for the interview.

Yes, but if you notice, there are only 16 pages. Typically, mumbai puts out 35 to 36 pages (same as New Delhi). Check out october. Mumbai usually posts the interview appointments twice. They are on top of their game. New Delhi is a bit slow to post. Wait till next week and Mumbai will probably post another 20 pages or so (maybe a few less since November contains a couple of holidays). Keep up the hope. It's still possible to get a November interview.

i saw dimp_123 timeline and they havent got nov. date ;they being ahead by a week or so

i thought they just post once and since its already out i thought they wont add more!!!even i was surprised to see the november list put up so early as from wht i had read they do wait till middle of the month to post !!!!this was too early!!!hopes are onnn if mumbai posts the interview twice:)....nothing like it if we get nov. date!!!

i've done all i can to get on the november list or get an appointment for november!!! when i talked to the operater in mumbai he said that since all the holiday's in the month of november and this n that ...its not possible to as all slots are filled.....and early december is filled as well... so here we are having to wait a good ol month and half ...

the november list thats posted is final according to the operater...

I emailed the embassy once my case was complete and they said they do not have my case yet. I waited for the case forwarded message from the NVC and emailed the embassy again but I just received an email saying they still haven't received the case.

I think I am just being impatient...I'll wait till 10/17 before I call the DOS and email the embassy again. until then, i will be counting the seconds. come on, time, move faster....please.

we are going through New Delhi but i believe i will only get Packet 4 since we have already filled out the DS-230 part 1. I would expect those going for K1 or K3 to get Packet 3. Mumbai may be different but i dont think so. maybe someone that has gone through there can comment

YES ... FOR NEW INDIAN PASSPORT IF ITS LAMINATED THEY DON'T ENTER IT IN THE FIRST PAGE .... AT NVC THEY ONLY WANT A COPY OF THE FIRST PAGE OF THE PASSPORT .... MY WIFE'S HAD MY NAME ON IT .... BUT IS SEALED AND STAMPED IN A DIFFERENT PAGE

yes i went to mumbai regional passport office and they refused to enter as it was laminated .thye told me to get a new passport instead !

anish and lijy,have ull got it done in mumbai ?which page do they endorse spouses name if its laminated?

my wife got it done in kerala ......... trivandram ... but i think it only comes into play during the final interview ... that is what i think ..... my wife had almost 9 years left on her passport

yes definately its only needed at the time of interview till then its biographic page!my case is almost done at nvc and will head towards mumbai consulate .is it a good idea to apply for a new passport since i hv already submitted my currents passport biographic page or will it be fine with my current passport without my husband name on it?

you don;t have to re-apply ... go to the passport office and they will enter your husband's name and ...put a seal next to it .. .. some time they won;t let you re-apply if your passport doesn't expire anytime soon ... that is what happened in my case

Several questions for the Packet 4 that is sent by the Mumbai Embassy

1. How long does it usually take to ship and arrive? (they sent it on the 13th and it still hasn't arrived, being the 18th)

2. I'm assuming my wife does not need to have my I-864, taxes and what not?

3. Also assuming that my wife doesn't need my I-134?

I'm planning on sending my wife new pay-stubs, another employement letter and my tax forms.

I had emailed the embassy asking if they recieved my case, they replied by stating they recieved Packet 3 (which i assume is my case from NVC)

The US visa office stated the Mumbai emabassy scheduled her interview on the 6th of Nov and that the package was sent on the 13th. She still hasn't recieved anything (19th) and i'm starting to get worried her Packet 4 was lost.

i just sent cover sheet,case no. sheet,ds-230 and photocopy of the biographich page of the passport.

i was under impression that once ur case gets completed,ur file is sent to usaembassy here and then u are issued a packet 3 which states that once u are ready with the police certi,birth certi and all the docs. mentioned u hv to fill out ds-230 again and once that is reviewd u are sent packet 4 which states abt medicals and also has ur interview date. i am surprised with ur case!

neway i think i would wait for 10 days or so to inquire further regarding packet 4 . would give them some more time!u could inquire about the courier service at 022-66547600 or email them at infomumbai@vfs-usa.co.in or simple call them at 23637407 (preferabbly between 2pm to 4 pm)on working days or e-mail at mumbaiiv@state.gov(e-mail works best)
