  1. just a quick question, anybody here have gone to the ssa for removal of the status "valid only with DHS work authorization" or something like that? my question is can i use the I-551 stamp as an I.D.? since there's a delay in the GC to be mailed to me..

    hope someone can relate...

I removed the restrictions from my SS but I had gotten my GC. I do not know if they use the stamp as an ID. USCIS will have to update the system to show that you are now a permanent resident and I don't know if the card has to be issued before it is reflected in the system. The day I got my GC I went to the SSA office but they told me I had to wait for USCIS to update my information. Luckily for me they updated it the next day so my new SS card was mailed to me and I received it 4 days later. Call SSA or USCIS to see if you are already in the system.

do you mean the updated status once you input your receipt number on the uscis website? cus if thats it, mine is already updated.

  2. If you have the I-551 stamp in your passport that is as good as a Greencard, Yes you should go and update your SSN to remove the restriction. This should have been done when you were first approved for your Greencard.

except the I-551 stamp has an expiration date... OP doesn't indicate when it was stamped in the passport... without a valid GC (or stamp) in your possession you need to wait until you do

yes definitely theres an expiration on the stamp, so you mean without the hard copy GC we shouldnt go back to ssa for removal of that restriction status?

USCIS Green card delay information link above.

yeah, i read this. no worries, as long as we have the I-511 stamp and seal on our passport. (was it 511 or 115?) this is just sad since, im also in wait for that so i can come back to the ssa for some changes and to dmv to get a license to drive.. i think God is testing my patience..

i also find it hard to get a job, i dont know if its whether the recession or for some other reason. i mean, im an RN and i cant land a job..probably competition since there are alot of nursing grads too..

patience is forever a virtue! anybody here in the same situation?

    rajemr

i feel sad for you and i hope you can get away from the situation. you can contact the uscis for help. this seem to prove the reason why u.s. gov't are stricter to the immigrants especially under the petition of a fiance visa. its for the beneficiary's safety. i heard alot of stories of an immigrant being petitioned by their american lovers and once they arrive in the states, they become slaves rather than a spouse.

a person got to think of their safety all the time, considering why a foreign man or a man way older than us or even younger would file a petition for you

  5. thank God our interview was over and i was approved! yesterday we me and hubby went to the SD uscis office and it took us like 10 min til IO called us, it was a great time of interview! IO was very nice and even jokes around. the time we sat down infront of him, he explained to us the process of removal of condition and application for naturalization. hahaha!. he talks alot and we all had a great time i think. him and my hubby talked about how the SD Padres suck this season. so yeah, he asked us how we met, asked for some proofs of marriage so we showed him the marriage cert, both of our birth cert., our joint docs ( we only gave him car insurance, leasing contract and joint ITR 2008) it all went well, he asked if we have a joint bank account we said not yet but i told him i already opened a bank account at bank of america under my married name, so he took the card and photo copied it. we brought our wedding album and it was huge! he was making fun of it saying he doesnt need to go the gym anymore for that.LOL so yeah, he typed info on his pc and even turned his flat screen monitor to us and showed us what he was typing..through that i was in knowledge now that my status is CF1, meaning a K1 entry now in the status of a conditional permanent residency. i was able to check if my name was properly spelled right on the very uscis system. it was all good! he stamped APPROVED in my file and explained the process of removal of condition, which is, 90 days before our 2yr expiration, starting from the 5-15-09 (our approval aos date), told me that GC will arrive in 2-3 wks. and also to apply for the naturalization a yr after i receive the removal of condition approval which is the 10 yr GC. he took my ead card, stamped and sealed my passport, he said that is what i can show to some employers if i dont have the green card yet. we even had a spare time talking about the PADRES really. LOL! after that we went straight to PETCO PARK to watch Padres vs. Reds. and infact this time, Padres won!! wow!

Thank u for all the people who have helped me and most of all to God for this awesome plans he has for me.

Congrats shes. I am very very happy for you. Your GC should be in the mail before two weeks; now don't forget to remove the restrictions from your social security card. Again, CONGRATS

tnx dear! sori for a very late reply..yeah, after i get the GC, il return to ssa and dmv. now time to focus on working..

  7. Hey guys i received everything in the mail today. 10 Yr GC, Welcome letter and I 130 Approval. I filed my forms on my own and was greatful for this site and thank God i had a smooth Journey from the date i mailed the forms Jan16th 2009 - May 11th 2009 the day i received my card.

    Goodluck to everyone else.

    Have faith in God!!!!

oh wow! you got 10 yr GC, how come others get 2 yr GC only?

  8. Thank you for the tips, kcoyclay! And good luck to you and dbears with the written test.

Glad to see all the approvals. I really hope I get an interviewer like yours, sunny!

I'm not too nervous about my upcoming interview; barely had time to think about it. But I'm a little concerned about a lack of evidence to show our marital relationship. The only 'joint' thing we have is a joint bank account - and I very rarely use my card, as Alex buys most things (I'm always forgetting my ID to show with the card, or he shops without me). I guess it may be time to start buying more things!

We have our own place that we rent, but I'm not on the lease. And actually we've been using Alex's parents' address for everything - bank account, my work, SSNs, tax returns - because we weren't sure how long we'd be able to live here (when Alex lost his job we thought we might have to move in with his parents), plus we share a mailbox with everyone else in this apartment complex so our mail isn't very secure. Is anyone else in this position?

I officially have a job! I've always scorned the crazy American work ethics (in Europe we tend to like our long holidays and short working hours) but here I am working a minimum of 40 hours a week, 5-6 days a week in a cubicle office that never sees daylight. It's good work, though, and it pays as much as I'd hoped for. So Alex is the one staying at home, learning how to cook and acting as my personal chauffeur. (He bakes really good cookies).

Which leads me to another problem...does anyone know if the Social Security office will accept my EAD as photo ID in my married name? I looked on their website but didn't see a definitive answer. Both it and the bank said they couldn't change anything to be in my married name until I had photo ID. I could wait until after I receive my greencard (hopefully) but it means not being able to receive health benefits until then, plus I'm a little concerned about my EAD not matching my SSN.

hi rachel! well for my case our "joint whatever documents" would be. 2008 ITR, leasing condo, and a geico insurance. thats the only docs under both of our names, we dont have insurance yet cus he can only add me on June and we dont have a joint bank account.

are these good enough! oh my..its on friday already!!! im so nervous and excited!LOL! hey..is bringing the wedding album good? cus i thought i can save money atleast, i dont have to print out pics. hihi!

  9. I just want to ask something regarding my social security card, I went there to our SSA to get the restrictions from ssc but the woman there told us that they cant change my card because the DHS system still says that my name is still in my maiden name and they still didn't update it so, SSA said that they will make a report to DHS to verify my name.Im just confuse how come that the DHS didn't update my name but they have already issued me my GC?Do i need to wait for my EAD and go back there again to SSA?Hope theres somebody here can enlighten me regarding this matter.Im very much confused. :help: Thanks...

was your old ss card carries your maiden name still? cus i went there weeks ago for a name change..then they told me same thing and after a week i received the card in married name with some errors.LOL yeah, so im gona come back again to their office, once i get the gc do i can have my name corrected and take out the restriction note at the bottom of the card
  10. have a question for the aos interview.. i know its been listed there in the form the docs thats needed in the interview, but personally, what did you guys bring that you think is necessary on the interview, can u list it down. we'll have ours next week and i pray for a smooth sail interview, no hassles and for my gc to come in 2 weeks the earliest just like what others experienced.

shes we can only tell you what the interview letter tells you to bring. Bring all joint documents, and plenty pictures. Important to know about each other and each other family. Read the interview reviews and see if it will help you okay? All the best.

uhhm..im talking about the evidences..are the pics, chats and mails when we were not married yet are also being asked by the IO during the AOS interview? there are only few things i think we can bring as evidences..like wedding pics, honeymoon pics, condo leasing contract both under our names, marriage cert...i think thats all..

how about the K1 NOA1 and NOA2 do we need it on the interview?

  11. Congrats andiste08!

I got 2 first name and the SSA messed up my first name by making my first 2 names one word. So now I have to fix it right away when I receive my GC. Our tax return was rejected because my name doesnt match with the number and found out its because of my 2 word first name. My husband always get confused too why I have so many names. Lol! And also the bank and other bills made my second name as my middle initial which is not really my middle name. I keep on explaining that jane is my second name and "P" is my middle initial not "J". yea in Philippines its so common to give at least 2-3 first name to their kids.

Shes, have you started sending resume to hospital? Where are you located? Im here in Massachusetts and im also RN here. I applied to several job posting online in hospital, long term carm facility and nursing homes. Still no call from them. I heard some hospitals here freeze hiring for nurses. My friend advice me to go to hospital and to hand deliver my resume because the HR will look at your application right away. So that's what I did last Friday, and luckily was able to spoke with the director of nursing. She is very nice. She gave me her calling card and told me to call her if I didnt get a call within 2 weeks from her. I asked if they are hiring and she said yes we're always hiring. Its a big advantage to personally submit your resume coz the HR will think you give an effort to go to their location plus they can review your application right then. Hope we will get job soon. Happy job hunting!

yes ive been sending a few and posted my resumes but i dont want to formally apply yet, u know like going to interviews etc etc..until my gc is in my hand cus i think it lessen the stress to take one step at a time

  12. i got my card in married name! need to make sure they recorded it right though cus i have 3 names and it didnt fit on the card so better make sure they have it completed in their records. yeah im excited to apply and ofcourse land a job. i was an RN in the PI, and will apply as an RN here as well..

i think u can apply to a tax preparer as an accountant..thats very good and stable business now adays i think

RN has very high damand job market not only in US but everywhere! I'm sure you can get a job real soon. and woow you have 3 names? u mean 3 names in the middle or ??

    Glo

it is common in the Philippines to have 2 first names or even three or four first names. Our middle name would always be our mother's maiden name.

Ex.1 Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion: the "Maria Kristina Cassandra" are all considered part of the first name while Cuneta (the mom's maiden name) is the middle name and "Concepcion" (dad's last name/family name/surname) is the last name/family name.

Ex. 2 Kristina Bernadette Aquino Yap: "Kristina Bernadette" is the first name while "Aquino" (her maiden name/last name prior to marriage) is now the middle name since she has gotten married and "Yap" (her husband's last name) has become her last name.

It is probably confusing to others, esp to americans who do it a different way... in the same way that it was confusing to us Filipinos how the middle name is what we consider part of the first name and why US born citizens can't just take the mom's maiden name as the middle name. ... but well, we are all learning from each other and trying to adapt in the best way we can... even with the complexity of handling names. ;)

mine is like your ex. 1 ate. but mine is longer cus my middle name has a "DELA" like, DELA TORRES

  13. i got my card in married name! need to make sure they recorded it right though cus i have 3 names and it didnt fit on the card so better make sure they have it completed in their records. yeah im excited to apply and ofcourse land a job. i was an RN in the PI, and will apply as an RN here as well..

i think u can apply to a tax preparer as an accountant..thats very good and stable business now adays i think

I've got 5 names and it fit perfectly on my card.

really? wow..well i have 5 names too..3 first names, 1 middle name and 1 last name.. thing is..the numbers of each names..mine is like this, i dont know if yours is longer

xxxx xxxxxxxx xxxx DELA xxxxxx xxxxxxx

thats my name format, as u can see, the "DELA" is the start of my middle name..and the last 7 x's are the numbers of my last name w/c is my married name. so is yours somewhat like mine? im curious cus if your name fitted in the box then mine should as well

  14. i got a letter receipt from ssa saying i'll get the card in 2-3 weeks..u nkow that receipt i got the first time i applied for ss card..after a week i got it so, i hope this ones the same thing..i'll be so glad if they were able to verify my status at dhs and sent me a card in my married name

im wanting to work already, but i guess im gona wait til i get the 2 yr gc until i formally apply for job.

    anybody here working yet?

Congrats for your receipt! I've received one too I guess it means they have verified our names. I hope u have smooth one for your interview and have ur gc on hand asap! I'm waiting for my gc too and I'm dying to have a job. I was accountant before and hopefully job market wont be too bad here. What did you do before? Anyone can share the experience for job interview with us here?

    Glo

  16. Eric and Althea, thanks for updating the list and congratulations on your EAD! (F)

I got SSN for my new last name in the mail yeaterday! :dancing::dancing: Took them only a couple of weeks to send it to me even though I was told 4 weeks when I applied. Now I am all set to go to DMV office (just need to read the rules a little bit more :reading: )

hi! just want to ask with regards to ssa, did they also told u that they cant verify your name at the dhs and gave u a letter saying you have to wait for 4 weeks to get an update from them?

also, can u already see your status online at the uscis website when u went to ssa for a name change?

  17. just want to share my experience about name change again at ssa.. so before, when i dont have the EAD yet, i went to SSA to change my name into my married name and so i went out of their office with a letter from them saying that they have to verify with the DHS 1st my status before they can issue a card..after 3-4 weeks, i received a letter saying that they cant issue me a card cus my status is already expired. - UNDERSTAND that, since i havent filed for the AOS yet at that moment, so i assumed that when they checked my status i was still under K-1 visa (which was already expired at that moment) thats why issuance of ss card with a name change didnt take place.

so, we filed for aos, waited for ead, ap and interview sched which i all received this march already. i went back to ssa today and showed them the EAD that uscis gave me and a married certificate..same thing, the lady gave me a letter saying that they have to verify my status 1st before they issue a ss card in my married name!

my point is, isnt having an EAD card a VALID DOCUMENT SAYING that the usics recorded my name as *my married name already??? why do i have to wait for another 3-4 weeks????? anybody here experienced the same thing???
