I don't think a copy of your marriage certificate is required. I filed at the end of November and didn't include a copy of our marriage certificate. The only copy of any visa related "paperwork" that is required is a copy of your Permanent Resident Card. Any supporting evidence being sent with the I-751 is to establish that you have continued with the bona fide relationship that was established at the end of the AOS processing. I don't believe that they are interested in any evidence originating prior to the granting of your PR status.

Although it's been a while since I was issued my EAD (also after a 5 month wait) I would say that if the card is being produced, you're good to start looking for a job. Not wanting to deliberatly contradictory here but I would suggest the exact opposite of the previous poster and do you best to explain your exact immigrant status and where you are with your EAD. At some point before hiring you, any employer will need to confirm that you are eligible to work in the US and so getting that info out early will probably save you time and hassle in the long term.
The important thing to impress on any potential employer is the fact that once that card is in your hand (and day now) you are no more expensive or complicated to employ that any other American citizen. A common misconception with employers is the fact that because you're a new immigrant, there must be more paperwork and fees required to have you working for them. That is not true and the earlier you explain that, the better.
So... start looking, be persistent and make sure that you explain early that you are fully able to start work as soon as the card is delivered.

Hello VJ,
It's been a while since I've been in the forums but as I had my biometrics appointment today I thought I'd look in to see how long things might take from this point.
I just added my information to the timeline. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly my biometrics appointment was scheduled after submitting my I-751 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll be done with this step of the process soon.

The differences in what you get for your money with regards to property still amazes me. We were recently back in the UK visiting my family and when I told people that our new house (2300sq ft, 3 bed, double garage, finished basement with bar) cost the equivalent of around 90k pounds, they almost fell over. My sister lives in a 1 bed flat in Watford, Hertfordshire and she paid 115k pounds. I recently read an article that said that some areas of London (eg. Knightsbridge) now have the most expensive real estate in the world. Some properties are selling for 2000GBP per sq ft !! At those prices, our house would be around $10 Million !! We don't have a huge yard but it's certainly a workout to mow when it's 100 degrees outside !!

I have Setanta Sports through DirectTV. It costs me $14.99 per month and I've been very happy with it so far. I got it mainly for the rugby coverage but know it shows a lot of live or delayed (shown on the same day but in the evening US time) premiership, European cup and European club games. Below is the live schedule I just got off their website. This only shows live games so won't include the delayed games.
The will often show delayed coverage of games around live games which sometimes means being able to watch 2 o3 games in 1 day.

Hello everyone,
Long time member but haven't posted anything for ages. Debs and I moved into a new house in mid April and although I changed my address (as the immigrant) shortly after the move using the online address change process, we totally forgot that we also needed to inform the USCIS of Debs change of address. I have the I-865 form ready to mail tomorrow but got to wondering if the fact that we are well outside the 30 day period after we moved, might cause us any problems ? I have never made any claims for federal or state benefits. I will be applying to have the conditions removed from my green card this coming October and want to have all of our ducks in a row before that paperwork gets filed.

DirecTV carries the Setanta sports channel ($14.99 / month) which shows a huge amount of both rugby league and rugby union from around the globe. They don't show any cricket but I beleive (after talking to some asian co-workers) that there is a channel available through some of the networks which shows cricket around the clock.
The upside is I can watch more rugby here in Illinois than I ever did at home in the UK. The downside is I was able to watch England get WALLOPED by the springboks yesterday morning. Not a good way to start the weekend !!

For any Brits missing the ability to watch live football or rugby (both international and domestic) the search is over. We had DirecTV installed at our new house specifically because they offer a residential version of the Setanta Sports Channel. Setanta used to only be available through bars and pubs who had to buy a commercial isence but now $14.99 per month gets you round the clock coverage of a huge amount of sport from the UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ and South Africa. I can watch more premiership football and rugby from my living room in Illinois than I ever could in London.
They show a lot of live games, plenty of delayed broadcast games and then these are often repeated throughout the week if you aren't around to catch them first time around. I'll be able to watch the England v South Africa match LIVE on Saturday morning and that is on after they show Wales v Australia and Argentina v Ireland... all LIVE !! They show 2 or 3 premiership football games each day over the weekends and I was also able to watch Champions league matches as well. I was even able to watch European cup rugby final live from Twickenham on Saturday. They show aussie rules, gaelic football and several games from other soccer leagues around the world. They also show Tri nations rugby, Australian super league rugby league and a bunch of other stuff too.
I can't reccommend the channel highly enough and would call it a must for any fan of footie or rugby from anywhere in the world but especially for those Brits now living on a diet of baseball and 'football'.
If you have DirecTV $15 a month for 24/7 coverage of all the best sports on the planet is cheap at twice the price !!

Debs and I moved into our new place in Mid April and after cleaning in preparation for some friends coming over for dinner, I went round with the camera and snapped some pics of our new place.
We're sooo happy to have a place that is ours. We haven't had much time to do anything besides decorating my stepdaughters bedroom but as you can see by the pics, there really wasn't much we needed to do. We hope to add a deck in the back yard and some landscaping at some point down the road but at the moment we are pretty happy with things as they are.
We're having a housewarming party over labor day weekend so I need to get the bar fully stocked before I do my Tom Cruise impression for all our guests.
Anyways.... Just thought I'd share.

I miss having a city like London on my doorstep but I get to commute to a decent sized city every day for work so I still get my fill of traffic and road rage. I think the thing I miss the most is regular gatherings with my friends. It didn't have to be a crazy drunken 3am night out in central London. I was just as happy with a couple of beers and some general banter in my local pub on a wednesday night. I miss summer afternoons at the Pitcher and piano in Richomond drinking jugs of pimms. I'll be back for 3 weeks in the summer and I'm really looking to a short return to what used to be normality for me. I love my new life here but occasionally I do hanker for elements of my old life back in Blighty.

I can still remember the mixture of nerves and excitement when we found out that our case was on it's way to London. I pestered the hell out the Embassy for packet 3 once I knew it had left the NVC and the once packet 3 was back at the embassy I pestered the hell out of them for an interview date.
It's all downhill from here... before you know it you'll be together on this side of the pond and that whole stage of the visa process will be behind you.
Enjoy your trip to England too. Sounds like the weather is getting better. We'll be back for 3 weeks in July and August so I'm hoping for a hot summer also!!

I had to take both a theory test and a driving test here in Illinois but it was a cake walk compared to my test in the UK. I took the test in a small town with very little traffic. Test consisted of me driving around the block, performing a 'turnaround using an alleyway", no emergency stop. I think I was done in under 10 minutes. The funniest part was sitting in the car before we left the DMV and being asked to beep the horn to check it was working

I don't stop in here as much as I used to but I'm glad to see that you are progressing on your own visa journey after supporting so many others through theirs. Once that NOA2 arrives your feet will hardly touch the ground and before you know it Chas will be arriving in the good ol US of A.

Uniquephones.com will unlock most makes and models of phones for use on any network for $2. I unlocked the Nokia 6100 I brought from the UK and was able to switch my Orange sim with my new Cingular one with no problems.
I was given a Cingular 8125 by work which was great phone but recently I upgraded to a Samsung Blackjack which I LOVE !! It has all the features (besides the touch screen) of the 8125 but is half the size and weight. I have had no issues with battery life and was able to find a 1Gig micro SD card online for under $20.
I thunk Cingular have some of the best phones, call plans and coverage of any of the Networks I see here in the US. I've been very happy with all my Cingular phones but my new Blackjack is definately the BEST so far !!

I moved from London, population of around 7 million, to Trenton, Illinois... population at the last census, 2700 !!
Yeah it takes some getting used to but I think I'm pretty well adjusted to the distances and the fact that you have to drive EVERYWHERE !!. Now it doesn't seem a hassle to drive 20 minutes for groceries of 30 minutes to the mall. I also don't even think now that I have a 1 hour commute to work every day. Luckily (for me anyway) we only live about 25 miles east of St. Louis so I get to travel into the 'big city' every day for work. I would have HATED to have ended up working in Trenton but working in St. Louis has allowed me to have a slightly larger 'world' than folks who live and work locally.
As for small town living, just like city living, it has it's pro's and con's. I like the idea of living in a virtually crime free community. I like the idea that my stepdaughter can go out and play with friends without us worrying she'll be knocked over by a bus. I like the idea that when Debs and I have kids of our own, they'll also get to grow up in that safe and friendly community. The flip side is that a lot of people who live in Trenton have ALWAYS lived in Trenton. For that reason I don't really feel like I belong or that I can fully participate in the community events (which there are lots of). I'm sure that will change with time and to be honest, Trenton Dairy day is not something I'm in a huge rush to attend. I also don't really like that everyone knows everyone elses business. Back in London I had friends and family but could choose how anonymous I wanted to be amongst strangers. Here It's npt quite so easy to blend in to the back ground, especially with an accent etc.
I expect that we will remain in this neck of the woods for some time to come and I'm fine with that. Housing is affordable, schools are good and it really isn't a bad place to live. As long as I can get some of my old city fix, either by going to work or having an occasional night out downtown, I'll be good to go !!

Has he turned his UK CV into a US style Resume ? Also... does he state anywhere on the CV / resume that he is authorized to work in the US for any employer and does not require any additional sponsorship ?
I was told to place this info on my resume because a lot of employers believe that because folks are from overseas, they require gobs more paperwork to employ them. As we all know, the truth is that as long as he has an EAD or his green card, it's just like employing anyone else !!
If he doesn't feel that people are bothering to contact past employers, would it be possible to have some form of reference available to take to interviews. This could be quite a generic reference from a past employer but could contain something along the lines that they would be willing to provide any additional information in the event that it was required.
I'd also suggest, if possible, approaching some kind of staffing agency and using them to make the initial approach to any potential employers. The recruiter might do a better job of explaining the situation that your husband is in regarding past employment etc.. and may pain ta favourable picture to potential employers. I know that I hit many brick walls applying myself but as soon as I had a recruiter putting my details out there and explaining my situation, I had job interviews lined up.
Not sure if any of that will make much difference but it can't hurt.

Unless you are looking to work in a field where your educational credentials are of high importance, then I am sure that your experience will be taken into account.
After speaking to a number of recruiters when I was looking for IT jobs, they told me that employers look favourably at people with in job and related experience. Someone can have a handful of certificates and a degree but unless they have any experience applying that book learned knowledge to real world situations then an employer won't have much confidence in their skills.
They key is to impress on any potential employers that while you might not have gone to college or got a degree, you have been doing what you've been doing for x number of years and you do what you do well. Confidence in your own skills and ability goes a long way in giving others confidence in you !!

Like everything in this process processing times vary from city to city and case to case.
In theory the EAD **should** be issued within 90 days of the date that your NOA is sent out. I think that the interim EAD proramme (where a temporary EAD is issued by your local office if the regular one is not issued within 90 days) has been scrapped by the INS. I'm sure there will be some other threads around about this.
In any case, plan for it take the full 90 days and hope you get lucky. Mine took nearly 5 months and I was denied a temp EAD even when the interim EAD program was still operating.
Hopefully you'll be lucky and you EAD will be processed quickly.

Unfortunately waiting is very much par for the course when it comes to this bloody immigration process. The frustrating thing is that we are all guilty of thinking that the biggest hurdle to overcome is the waiting involved before the visa is even granted. The truth of the matter is that the waiting for the visa is probably the easiest part (besides being apart from our partners). At least during that wait you are still working, still living in a familiar area with all the usual conveniences, cars, bank accounts, IDENTITY !!
When you arrive at your chosen POE you give all that up and pretty much become a 12 year old again. You become totally dependent on your partner because suddenly your world has shrunk and someone who may have been surrounded with friends and family finds themselves feeling pretty alone.
The key to making a good go of this crazy situation is to continually tell yourself that things will change and they will change for the better. I found it VERY VERY VERY frustrating to be so reliant on my new wife and her family when I arrived. It wasn't that they resented helping me find my feet. Far from it infact. It was just that I am a naturally confident and independent person and it was hard for me to feel like I was regressing back to being a teenager again !!
I left behind my car (which I loved), my income, my hometown (London population 15 million to Trenton, IL population 2700), all the convenience of the environment I had known for 20+ years and suddenly I was starting everything from scratch. However, while this was a little annoying at times I knew in the back of my mind that things would get better. I'd get a job eventually. I'd get a car eventually. We'd buy a house (probably bigger than I'd ever be able to afford back in the UK) eventually. At the centre of all that hope was my wife, the sole reason why an upwardly mobile 26 year old living in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, would pack up and move to rural Illinois. She was why I made the move and if I had to move again to be with her, I would in a heartbeat.
This is really what your husband has to keep telling himself. He is with you which is what you both want. His life at the moment is in a state of flux but it won't always be like that. It will improve, things will get better, the stability that he knew back in the UK will come back but it will take time. If he is anything like me his life in the US will have infinately more potential than it did in the UK. Take each day as it comes. Celebrate the little accomplishments that build towards the big final plan. Every step towards the shared goals you must both have is a HUGE step in the right direction.
He knows that he has your support. He doesn't really want to go back to the UK, he's just bored. I waited 8 months between applying for my EAD and getting a job and I can tell you that by the time my EAD was finally approved I had begun to think that it would never arrive. He just has to stick it out and make the best of things until they make a turn for the better. I don't know what his routine is like but I always made a point of getting up with my wife when she got up and staying up until we went to bed. I didn't want to waste away in my PJ's and also didn't want to leave stuff like laundry and washing up lying around when I could be doing them. Yeah... it's a bit crappy when the highlight of your day is washing the dishes but not only did it keep me busy for a couple of hours every day but my wife LOVED the fact that that stuff was done so she didn't have to worry about it.
I gather from your timeline that he is still pretty new to the US. Gve hime some time and I'm hopeful that as long as he allows his mindset to change to the fact that this is all temporary, he'll be fine soon.

Like Jeraly said, you can easily go to the London Embassy website (http://london.usembassy.gov) and download the forms that will be sent to you in packet 3.
The list of forms that will be sent can be found here. I had all my packet 3 forms ready to go with copies I'd downloaded so that I could get everything sent back the day that the packet arrived.
I'm not sure if things have changed since 2004 but the Embassy wouldn't start processing any of the packet 3 forms until you had confirmed that you had all the documents on the checklist (IV-15 Checklist). It's best to send that completed checklist with packet 3 so everything arrives and is worked on at the same time.
