  1. Hi everyone,

I entered the USA in Oct on a CR-1 visa. It has been a little over 4 months and I have not received my green card yet. I had to change my address during this time and I filed an AR-11 for change of address. I was wondering if anyone has experience with a similar situation. Is this a normal timeline for receiving the greencard or should I be worried? Is there any way for me to track it? Thank you!

  2. Hi all. I entered the US on Sept 29th through Houston on a CR-1 visa. The border officer confirmed my local address and told me that it will take 6-8 months for me to receive my Green card. I asked him if he meant 6-8 weeks and he said "no, 6-8 months". With what I have seen on this forum and elsewhere, it should take about 12-15 weeks and not 8 months for the green card to arrive. Am I missing something here? Also, is there a link where I can track the progress of my GC for CR-1 visa holders? Thank you so much.

  3. I originally had an interview scheduled for 23rd July which got cancelled due to Dir-16. I requested an expedited interview which was accepted and I had my interview (CR-1) on 22 of September. I hope that helps

I assume the embassy was given an electronic version of the medical?  If they did not have the information you would have received a 221g for the missing medical.

It might be best to contact the embassy and ask.  Perhaps it's your personal copy, but check with the embassy first before opening it.

I guess you were right. I had no issues entering the US. Thanks

  5. Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has heard any news about the US consulate reopening in Ho Chi Minh city or if anyone had any luck getting an interview date in the past couple of months. It has been closed for about 3 months now and really hoping to hear some good news. I'm in the CR-1 category if that matters. Good day all!

  6. I had a somewhat similar issue. I uploaded the wrong PCC on NVC site (Since it was all in Vietnamese and I can't read it, I got confused between two forms). Anyway, I still got Documentarily qualified as usual. NVC sent a message on the portal that a Vietnamese PCC was not required to be uploaded at the moment, in order for DQ and I can upload it before my interview and bring it to my interview. This was my experience and your situation might be different. I hope this helps anyway!

My wife, child and I both live in her home country...we travel back and forth quite a bit and never an overstay. The last one of these trips was for my dad's funeral at the national cemetery and also while she was DQ'd. We never take it for granted; we made sure to bring all documents showing that we weren't planning on cheating the system....my daughter's school enrollment, my wife's property docs, return tickets, health insurance documents, and of course confirmation of my dad's funeral service.

And yes, As Suze1 pointed out don't bring a lot of cash and I'll add don't bring a lot of documents showing ulterior motives, such as birth certificates, curriculum vitae, resumes, etc....

    BTW...we've been DQ'd going on 5 months now....be patient.

    Thank you. That is helpful!

And DO NOT bring what some might consider a lot of cash with you.

(On one trip to the States with a B1/B2, an Immigration Officer was interviewing people who were waiting in line to re-check their baggage for the next leg of their flight, and when she asked me how much currency I had, the lady seemed to think it was a lot, and they instructed me to go to another IO sitting at a desk.

We think because I had fairly recently been accepted to two universities (City College of NY, and University of Hawaii.. I had not decided  to attend either, and did not), but they had it in their system, so...they must have wondered.

So, the amount of cash must have sounded like a lot (was not much for us, just normal), but THAT must have raised questions to the person checking people in the line. The IO in the second internal booth spoke with me, it was cleared up, and I returned to the baggage scanner line, and continued on my/our way.)

So, ya have to see it from their viewpoint, at all times, it seems.

    Cheers.

Thank you. I have travelled to the US on a B2 several times never overstaying, hopefully that helps.

  8. Hi all,

I have been DQ'd for over a month now and awaiting an interview date. Given how COVID is still keeping the consulate shut, I don't think I will be able to have an interview anytime soon (I'm assuming it will be at least September, if I'm lucky). In the meantime, I'd like to visit my husband who lives in the US. I do have a B1/B2 (tourist) visa that I can use to visit the USA and come back to my interview location for my interview when it is scheduled. My question is, is it risky to do that and what are my chances of being sent back at the border because I'm already DQ and it is pretty clear that I mean to immigrate the USA? Thank you so much.

  9. Hi all,

How long does it typically take for NVC to send your case to the local consulate/embassy after being Documentarily Qualified? Do COVID and backlogs at the local consulate affect this timeline or is it a centralized system?

I have been DQ for 3 weeks now and my case is still at NVC (I'm looking at the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam) Any information will help. Thank you!

It will add on any time that it is closed.  That is what happened last year.  Everything just stopped for a few months.  When it opened again they still had the same priority order as when it closed, thus the same average wait time for others already in the que before your appointment.  For example my wife was DQ June 1 but our interview was November 2.  5-6 weeks beyond the time they were closed.

This is helpful. Thank you! I hope this time the closure is not for several months and things move quickly

typical from DQ date - email interview letter date, 5 weeks

email interview letter date - actual interview date , 4-5 weeks

Thank you! Do you know if these estimates still hold true, given the closure of the US consulate until June 11th (maybe more)

  12. I got DQ'd on 24th of May for IR-1/CR-1 visa. Does anyone know the current wait times from being DQ'd to obtaining an interview date at the US consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, especially with the increase in covid cases? Thanks.

  13. Hi all,

I need to obtain a Vietnamese PCC for my CR-1 Visa as I have been living in Vietnam for the past 3 years. Can this be obtained through an agency? It is much quicker with an agency than doing it in person. Also, should I get type 1 or type 2 PCC for my case? Thanks in advance
