    N400 March 2021 Filers

    Hi all,

     

    I had my N400 interview today and wanted to share my experience with you hoping it helps answer some questions.

    I applied on March 29, 5 year rule (divorced) in Los Angeles.

     

    I got to the USCIS building 15 minutes before my appointment, there was no line whatsoever (1pm in the afternoon) and got in immediately.

    After checking in at the counter, I was sent to a different room, where I waited for a while until the officer came and called my name.

    The officer pulled up my case and asked me to confirm my birth date. We then started with the civics questions, then he had me read a sentence "Which state has the most people?" and I also had to write a sentence on an iPad "California has the most people".

    After successfully passing the above, we proceeded to the Yes/No questions from the N400 form.

    The officer had me verify some of my personal information and also agree to the Oath of Allegiance and that was basically it.

     

    Before finalizing the interview I asked the officer if I could postpone my Oath ceremony because I had some urgent international travel in the next two months. He agreed to schedule me for late August/September and said that I would receive a letter in the mail with the exact date about 3 weeks before the ceremony. (If I hadn't postponed my ceremony it would have taken place some time next week).

     

    These are the civics questions I was asked are the following:

    1. What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

    2. What stops one branch of government from becoming too powerful?

    3. What is the highest court in the United States?

    4. What is the political party of the President now?

    5. What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

    6. Who was the first President?

     

    I had a very positive experience today and the officer was very nice throughout the whole process.

    I also have.a travel related concern. My interview is on July 2nd and I have an international trip planned on July 17th. Even if I get a same day Oath ceremony, I won't be able to get my passport in time to travel. I read that some other people had issues/long wait times after asking to reschedule their Oath ceremony through the USCIS helpdesk, so I was wondering if I should ask the officer once the interview is completed (and I hopefully am approved), if they could schedule my Oath for after I return from my trip.

    I definitely don't want to take any risks and if I have to cancel my trip in order to be safe, I will.

    I was shocked at how quick the interview was scheduled! Then I looked at @ollie's timeline and his was even quicker! 😮

     

    I read a Reddit post from someone who had their Los Angeles interview 4-months ago and they got the oath ceremony on the same day. I'm wondering if it'll be the same for me.

    Congrats CreativeForce! Did you apply in Los Angeles city or Los Angeles county? I think the service centers and processing times differ between the two.
