  1. I would be pissed at your lawyer for not knowing that NVC requires the original document plus a photocopy for the IV package. NVC only requires a translation of a document if it is not in the same language as the foreign embassy where the interview will take place. Many VJ members have sent translations just to be safe. Sounds like the only thing you sent was the translation.

Lawyers for this process are useless. Mine set me back $1800 and delayed the process by 3 months thanks to is incompetence. He had no clue about the NVC process. If it wasn't for this website, my wife would still be sitting in Thailand.

  2. Flash mobs attack Minneapolis

Downtown Minneapolis beset by violent gangs

Pieter's mother explains over the phone that her son is resting. Pieter, whose last name is being withheld at his family's request, is recovering from a brain injury suffered when he was attacked by a group of 20 to 30 young people in downtown Minneapolis shortly after 11 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day.

It's a story that has unfolded disturbingly often recently: Since the start of February, "flash mobs" have struck with violence in downtown Minneapolis six times. Three of the attacks have resulted in injuries; Pieter's are by far the most severe. After he was attacked, doctors at HCMC struggled to contain swelling in his brain. The possibility of Pieter needing open-brain surgery hung over the family until the next morning, when doctors finally concluded it wouldn't be necessary. Pieter, 27, is now in the early stages of a slow recovery, but it's too early to know whether he'll ever bounce back completely.

Pieter and his 23-year-old nephew were downtown to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They were hanging out at Kieran's, and decided to head back to their hotel room on the other side of downtown around 11. While walking, Pieter and his nephew were "blindsided" by "20 to 30 juveniles."

Grace said a Wells Fargo security guard saw part of the incident and later told police that the mob repeatedly kicked Pieter while he lay on the ground helplessly. When the beating finally ceased, Pieter was left with a bloody face, no short-term memory, and significant brain injuries.

Pieter worked as a visual artist and graphic designer before the attack. He's home from the hospital now and staying with his mother, Grace. As he couldn't do in the hours immediately following the beatdown, he now remembers his name and is regaining some mobility. Yet he can't drive or go outside by himself, and his brain is still swollen.

As for the assailants? Both Pieter and his nephew have said the attack commenced so unexpectedly, they really can't remember anything about the young people who beat them mercilessly. "It happened so fast [Pieter] can't remember anything about them," Grace said.

A surveillance camera caught the incident and that tape is now in the custody of Minneapolis police, but no arrests have been made.

Sgt. Steve McCarty of the Minneapolis Police Department said investigators are looking into possible connections between the string of incidents that has downtown Minneapolis on edge. Meanwhile, Pieter faces a long recovery from devastating injuries. —Aaron Rupar

They sent him to a hospital in Vietnam?

Trayvon may have entered the gated community either through a pedestrian gate at the front entrance or through an unfenced section often used by residents as a shortcut.

Around 7:10 p.m. Mr. Zimmerman tells an emergency dispatcher that he sees a "suspicious guy" near the clubhouse. "This guy looks like he's up to no good, or he's on drugs or something," he said. "It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about."

    Martin_shooting4.jpg

A couple of minutes later, Mr. Zimmerman tells the dispatcher that the guy is running toward the back entrance. The dispatcher asks Mr. Zimmerman if he is following him. When Mr. Zimmerman says yes, the dispatcher says, "O.K., we don't need you to do that."

There are conflicting reports of what happened between the time Mr. Zimmerman called 911 and when the police are dispatched at 7:17 p.m. Trayvon is declared dead around 7:30 p.m. in the grassy area between two rows of town houses.

Looks like Osama's hideout in Pakistan.

  4. Hello. I was doing some research about visas to the US and came across this site. It seems like it will be very helpful. I'm a single American man living in the mid-west and hoping to marry my Thai sweetheart of 6 years.

The tourist visa process wasn't so bad, but I have a feeling a K1 visa will be more difficult.

Welcome to VJ. Yes there is definitely more to the K-1 than the tourist visa. Click on Guides at the top. That's a good place to start.

  5. I don't reccomend doing this but, there is one way that you can get around this. I had to do it because my job screwed me by paying me in cash, only putting down that I made 3,000 in a year (and I worked a year and earned 1600 or more every month), the owners are nice people and I had to do it because they lost a lot of money from the business and wanted to keep it open... What I did was I ammended my taxes by the difference that I needed ( so about 13,ooo or so) so I could make the poverty line. The downside is that I owe the irs about 3 grand, but I'm paying it off 50 bucks a month and when my husband gets here, he'd help me pay the rest... I guess it's sort of a fee you can look into. I know you're in college and if you have a loan, I know that you're probably thinking that you're already in a deep hole as it is. But if you truly think the person you love is worth it, then it's one way to go. I did this because my parents sort of disowned me and did not want to help me with the affidavit of support, as for other family members, they are all in el salvador. And I go to college too! haha, so like I said, it's one way to go, and now I'm in the last step where my husband's interview is next month, so it worked!

    Good luck!

Did the IRS put a lien on you? They did me. When my wife showed up at the interview they said since my income was 18,500 and I owed the IRS 10,000, my income was only 8500. I was on a payment plan with them and the consulate didn't care.

One thing that was odd is NVC completed my case and didn't say a word. It all came out at the interview when they gave my wife 221g.

  6. In 2010 I filed married jointly (divorced January 2010 and no, not a "rush back in," we split up in 1998 but delayed divorce until we could sort out the apartment house such that I became the sole owner) but my income attributable to the filing for 2010 and for 2009 was pretty much the same for my RN salary, about $54k each year. I've been at the same job for almost three years.

As long as the petition reaches the embassy this year, they will look at 2010 income, so you should be fine.

  7. I have just applied I - 130 and waiting for I - 797, so that I can apply for K3 visa.

Recently, I am hearing that K3 visa is no more being processed at NVC. I am confused now. So, do I need to apply for my K3 or wait for my CR-1 to be approved.

    Please guide me.

    Thanks,

    Praneeth

K-3 is no longer an option. You will be IR-1/CR-1. Follow the guides for that.
