Hi Minny! I am the Canadian beneficiary, and my fiancé is the American petitioner. We're also waiting for our case to be in transit.

I'm unsure if you've been informed of this previously, but K1 applicants waiting on the Montreal embassy have come together in a group on Facebook to compare timelines. Someone has also compiled an Excel sheet full of data that is frequently updated as people receive information regarding the embassy and such.

Last I checked it could be 7 months from NOA2 to interview. That's just how badly the embassy is backlogged. We're in this together though!

how do you know how backlogged a given consulate is?

    some is embassy related

that is some embassies require only IRS transcripts (originals) and some accept copies

most accept 1040 and W2's ,  1099's and a letter from employer with start dated

but still check what the embassy requires and/or what is listed under needed documents in your appointment letter

I see, yeah I was curious if I can send the embassy all the documents and signed form electronically rather than international shipping of the papers.

the USC should get IRS transcripts for the interview as u will need them

sometimes these take time to get so its best to ask now

2020 are needed if interview before April 15th 2022

2021 are needed if interview after that date

Can you just use the saved Tax Return (1040) document or you need to specifically request something from IRS?

  4. Hi,

Because of COVID last year I started my job late (I was doing research which didn't really have income), so my tax return income for last year is slightly above the 100% for the Federal Poverty Income level but below the 125%. However since late last year, I am working and have a high paying job, so that isn't any issue for some time already. That being said, would you say it's still safer to get a joint sponsor (e.g. parent)? Or will the letter from my company, letter from my bank confirming my financial assets, and recent paystubs be enough to convince the Consulate for the K1 despite last year's tax return? Thank you in advance for your advice!

Well we have an update: we called NVC and got our case number today. Very strangely - my fiance called right on 7am and tried the number ending in 0888 or something similar - he got a weird message saying the NVC was closed due to bad weather UNTIL FEBRUARY (?????). He tried recalling the number a few times and got the same message.

Then he tried calling the number ending in 0700 - he got through in 45 minutes and got our NVC number. The lady who helped him said she had no idea what he was talking about RE: the bad weather message. So strange.

So it took exactly a month for us from NOA2 to NVC. Now we sit at the NVC. I'm so confused about the next step. Where am I meant to create an account etc? I tried looking at the PDF at the start of this thread but my confusion level has transcended haha.

How do you get through? The numbers I call just have an automated message then it turns off the call.

Ok so can pay check stubs just be sent in an email and printed by him at the time of interview.. i know we need to mail the originals of the tax return..

you don't need original of tax return, photocopy is fine. (e.g. "The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s " ) state.gov

Same with Sydney - the minute we go into lockdown, the consulate shut. We were COVID-free for the better part of a year so everyone became complacent. We are now relying on vaccinations here as they have FINALLY conceded that with Delta, we can never get back to 'COVID-zero'. It seems that as soon as there is a lockdown, the consulate shuts. I am judging this based off countries such as Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia and even some European countries which have sky high cases (compared to Aus) but the consulates have remained open as they have not issued lockdown orders.

Very frustrating. In Sydney, it is clear they are still processing what they deem 'emergency' - work visas and student visas. I can't understand how the threat of COVID seems to disappear if it's an emergency visa...?

I checked the monthly non-immigrant visa statistics and I think based on that it's possible to tell if K1 issuances are going along or not. Not sure how else to gauge how bad the wait is going to be after the recent NOA2.

I suppose it depends on the country and their current set of restrictions. Canada had a pattern of closing everything and then opening everything and then closing again when the wave returned. Which ultimately impacted the consulate and when people could go back to work. Covid has certainly not been a friend to us fiancé(e)s during this whatsoever. 😔

Ay and it's so close :( how can I have an idea of how bad that wait will be for me in that respect?

You can estimate by looking at timelines on this site. For example, Bogota has several people with a NOA2 date going back to 10/2020. That puts them about one year behind.

That's atrocious! So almost a year people can't get appointment after NOA2 approval? Doesn't the NOA2 expire after 4 months?

On the official page of my embassy it says:

    Quote

"Current Status of Visa Services: The U.S. Embassy is currently processing all categories of immigrant visas, K fiancé visas, and student and exchange visitor nonimmigrant visa applications. As post-specific conditions permit, our mission will phase in processing of additional nonimmigrant visa cases. We expect the volume and scheduling of visa cases will depend on local circumstances. We will resume adjudicating all routine nonimmigrant and immigrant visa cases only when adequate resources are available, and when it is safe to do so."

    Why is Bogota so bad?

  10. 49 minutes ago, Boston_Gary said:

Actually, it's a very bad sign for some of us. It looks like they are processing even less K visas for June at least for Bogotá. They tell us things are improving, but we are seeing even less processing in many embassies. Not good. Some embassy backlogs are now two years and climbing fast.

Yeah but how can you tell that without knowing how many applications there have been?

  11. So just received the welcome letter (I-797) after my NOA2 which was several days ago. The letter came sooner than I expected. The letter says that NVC processing should be complete within two to four weeks. So from what I have seen, I should wait about two weeks before calling NVC for the Case Number. Once I have the Case Number I can see when my case is sent to the Embassy.

Are there any other steps I should be taking? Honestly I have no idea how long this phase will be for waiting but given what I have been reading, I guess I need to be prepared for the long-haul again...
