A cashier's cheque works exactly as a money order.

And this is why I always advocate using Money Orders. They too have tracking, if that was your main concern.
Solution: Why wait for the package? If you filled in Adobe, re-print everything, arrange package, get $1760 Money order and send to Chicago Lockbox. The other package definitely was rejected. It will eventually find its way to you. Currently, USCIS is taking forever with mailing things. So do not wait for the rejected package.
FYI money orders have $1000 limit. So you will end up with two - one for $1000 and the other for $760
Yes, I hear so many horror stories about credit card and personal cheque payments getting declined that I think the best really is to do money order or cashier's cheque. Cashier's cheque has the added advantage of no limit, so you just need to get one issued, and most banks do it either for free or for a fee that is usually lower than getting a money order.

Have you tried calling USCIS to have a service request created? You can also request an SR via live chat.
I have not tried calling USCIS because to be honest I am not in that much of a hurry (H-1B holder) and don't want to spend a whole day waiting for someone to pick up. Also, it seems that many people on the same boat have submitted SRs and that did not help much (they were told they had to wait longer). In the absence of consistent success stories it just sounded like a waste of time.

I have not been able to get them online for the same reason. I was able to get them mailed to my old address, and asked my former landlady to send them to me.

I have almost the exact same dates as you (July 23rd instead of July 27th). No updates/biometric appointment yet. My FO is St. Louis MO, and I know there are people who filed in May who haven't gotten bio appointment yet.

My PD is July 23 and I am still waiting for biometric appointment.

Great, thank you for the clarification!

I have already filed I-485 (with I-130). Counsel told me I wouldn't need to file a new one as USCIS could "link" the I-140 with my previously submitted materials. I didn't quite follow every detail but they seemed to know what they were talking about...

Thanks for the heads up. They told me they would pay for the I-140 with premium processing. They advised me to go the marriage route some months ago because they were unsure if the PERM would go through (it took much longer than usual).
If the I-140 gets approved first, would I get a 10-year GC as opposed to a 2-year one?

Hi all,
I have filed I-130/I-485 (along with I-944 etc) back in July. Got NOAs but am still waiting for biometrics. Married to US citizen, currently on H-1 status.
In the meantime, my employer just told me that my PERM got approved (it was taking forever and they encouraged me to take the family route with a private attorney). Legal counsel suggested filing premium I-140 as that will be faster at "no cost".
Is this kosher? Can this cause problems with the pending petition, delays?

I used FedEx and got there in 1 day

^I don't think that is right. The wording on USCIS website seems to imply that the I-944 will be requested on a RFE for all applications submitted prior to October 13.
Immunization records issue in lead up to medical exam

If she has no immunization records, the Civil Surgeon will likely make her either get the required shots or run antibody tests. You will have to pay for it if it's not covered by insurance. You can probably go to a CVS/Walgreens and get many of the shots for cheaper (and they may work better with insurance so you may get some of them covered).
In my case, I had a similar issue but at a smaller scale: while I managed to get an official translation of my immunization record and brought it to the medical appointment, I noticed I never got the chickenpox (varicella) immunization, because I got the disease as a child (and you become immune after contracting it). There was no official record of me contracting the disease anywhere because my pediatrician at the time passed away some years ago and the office closed down. The Civil Surgeon told me he believed me but it's his signature on an official document blablabla so he told me I would either get the shot or antibody test. He told me the shot was quicker and cheaper (can do it on the spot and he can sign the document on the spot), so I just ended up paying for it and getting it during the appointment.
