This. I mean I'm a permanent resident of Canada and have been for the past 7 years. However, when my husband and I first started looking into moving to the US together it became pretty evident really quickly that Montreal wants the US petitioner to be in the US before they give out a visa. Being a part is really hard (I haven't seen my husband in person since March, and we had to cancel his trip here in October due to COVID), so I get that. However, sometimes you have to make sacrifices to get what you desire.

There is no way to add things other to a petition once it is filed unless you are issued an RFE.   The I-130 is more about the petitioner anyway.  You can interview anywhere that you have legal residency.  Not sure what to do about your passport. Possibly you can get a  laissez-passer passport.
  4. Thanks

Nothing special to do.  File the I-130.  You will need your passport later to apply for the VISA.
Asylum is legal temporary residence so yes you can interview there.   None of this means much now.  First file the petition to get things going.
