Congratulations on getting your visa's approved! It is such a heart wrenching experience being separated from your loved ones. If you don't mind me asking how long has it taken you to get your interview from being notified that all your documents are completed? I received an email from NVC last week saying they have received everything and my file is now complete, that they will now be scheduling me for interview. I'm just grateful to have gotten to this stage right now, but wondering how long people are waiting to actually get an interview.
Hi. We did DCF filing so our documents did not go through the NVC and we were able to schedule our own interview. I think this thread is specific to DCF so any timelines listed on here would probably not be relevant to your case.

Yeah, less of the poor me please guys. 😆 Two of us on here are still waiting from Feb and March. Sooooooooo
Okay well there are 68 pages in this thread, so it’s impossible to keep up with who is at what stage. I think we’re all just looking for support from people in a similar situation, so it’s not necessary to chastise somebody who’s only seeking camaraderie. For those who are interested, my husband was approved at his interview this morning. Thank you to those that answered our documents questions.

It amazes me that previously (years ago) you used to be able to do your medical in the morning and Embassy interview in the afternoon, and your medical report would already be available to the CO. This doesn't apply to me, but for people living far away from London, two trips into the city is annoying.
Yep, especially since we’re coming from Glasgow. Nice 6.5 hour drive down and back last weekend for the medical, now on a 5 hour train headed back down for the interview 🙄 We probably could’ve stayed the week and a half, but didn’t want to spend the extra money on hotel, food, etc.

On our way back to London now. Hubby’s interview is tomorrow. Wish us luck 🤞🏼

That is actually the reason I came back to this post and asked for clarification. I was reading through the instructions above, when filling out the form a couple days ago, and it looked as though it wasn’t required. I will complete one anyway.

Thanks for tagging me, but mom needs to provide an I-864a and THAT is not the reason a tax RETURN transcript is preferred to a complete copy of a tax return.
Sorry, can I just confirm... if my dad’s income is sufficient to cover my husband, do I still need to fill out an I-864A for my mother?

It’s like standing at a teller at a bank or at the post office. There’s glass between you and the person. You sit and wait to be called up to one. That first person is just a clerical person gathering your documents. They don’t decide anything, so you don’t need to do any explaining to them really. They will send you to pay a cashier the visa fee and bring back a receipt for the file. Then you sit again. The second time your number is called you go to another window like the first, but it will be an American who conducts your interview. It’s quite short and anybody in the vicinity can hear your “interview”.
sorry, I thought you were DCF. If you went through NVC, you already paid online so no cashier.
We did DCF. I am the USC sponsoring my husband. Am I allowed in with him?

I thought so too! The whole thing took me about 35 minutes and the interview itself lasted no more than 7 minutes. I wrote my review here:
Wow, thanks. That is really helpful!

The first window is where you give all your documents. The second window is where you’ll have your interview.
Interesting 🤔 For some reason I had it in my head that you go into someone’s office for the interview and hand over the paperwork at that time. How long does the appointment take in all? We have ours in a couple weeks.

Turn in the basics at the first window. When you are with the interviewer at the second window, you will have the rest to pull out if needed. I think you will find that London won’t be overly inquisitive about the affidavit of support. They tend to glance at it and if it all looks okay, not discuss it much. On people with a joint sponsor, they may ask “how do you know this person?”
@Wuozopo you mentioned first and second window? Do they take the documents from you before you go into the interview???

Sorry, I will have my interview next Thursday, I just want to make sure I have all the correct documents in place: what’s the reason of people using a joint sponsor? My husband had been working in the UK for the past four years until this June, and moved back to the US for a new job in July. If his income in both countries are well above the amount required, does it mean that we don’t need a joint sponsor for I-864?
UK income does not apply unless he transferred within the same company from the UK to the US. If not, he must meet the threshold for sponsorship based on his US income, otherwise you will need another sponsor. As my husband and I both live and work in the UK currently, my parents are having to act as a joint sponsor based on their US income. This is a very strict requirement, so I would suggest making sure you have all the information possible before going to your interview.

I just spoke to the operator at the embassy who said there is no one I can talk to in the visa department. Not surprised.
I explained my situation of waiting 23 weeks with no information and all he could do is provide me with an email of londoninfounit@state.giv and that I should email them with an enquirers. Looks like the journey on the merry go round continues.
Aw, that sucks. We must’ve just gotten through to someone more helpful on the day we called. He couldn’t tell us anything specific to our case, but was at least able to offer some reasons as to why they were behind. Good luck to you.

Curious. What exactly do you say when you contact them? Is it the USC or the UKC who is contacting? Both my husband and I sent in contact forms. We continued to get the same standard responses back. The most help we received was actually calling the Embassy. The guy explained that they were prioritizing students first as US universities start back in August. He was also quick to point out that although the USCIS letter says five weeks, the Embassy website says eight weeks for getting acknowledgment from the time your petition was approved. He also said that due to Covid they were behind and that’s why we hadn’t received anything after eight weeks. We did finally get our LND number this past Friday after 10.5 weeks. The number we called to actually speak to a live person was 0207 499 9000.

Thanks.
Its a bit of an eye opener if Student Visas are prioritised over visas which directly affect USC. Maybe thats indicative of the shambles unfolding.
Good luck with your progress and congratulations on receiving your LND.🙂
The reason student visas were being prioritized was because universities in the US start back to school in August and because the embassy was closed for several months and couldn’t process them, they had a mass last minute push to get through the student visas in time for back to school.

Along with a few others here on VJ, we received Approval June 29 (8 weeks ago). At least some of those with the same Approval date have already received LND.
The real difficulty is not knowing. If there is something that needs doing at our end then let us know and we will get on it. Alternatively, has the letter been sent and we have not received it, lost in the post perhaps?
For those in the same position as us, the process seems rather shambolic.
Hey ho......... fingers crossed for Friday🙂
We felt the same, but maybe take comfort in the fact that our petition approval was three weeks before yours and we just got our LND on Friday? Even if others got approved on the same day as you in June it seems like they are still processing them. The website says eight weeks to process and we spoke to someone at the consulate a couple weeks ago who told us they were prioritizing student visas first and then I-130s. In fact, he told us not to expect our LND until September at the earliest. Hopefully you’ll receive yours soon.

Sent another Contact Form enquiry today and received a reply within an hour or 2. It still didnt help but at least its a reply..........
When did you get your approval letter? We got ours on 9th June and received LND on 21st August (Letter was dated 19th August). If they’re only conducting interviews on Mondays and Thursdays, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, maybe they’re processing the petitions the other days of the week. Perhaps you’ll get yours in the mail this Friday?

Did it ask for 1099 self employed slips? They are similar to W2's but instead of from employer to employee, they are company to contractor, if that makes sense? You wouldn't have them, or need them if you mom's business was selling greeting cards online for example.
We read this for self employed:
-Total and Complete Tax Return: All schedules associated with the federal return including Schedule C (Profit/Loss from Business), Schedule D (Capital Gains/Loss), Schedule E (Supplemental Income/Loss) and Schedule F (Profit/Loss from Farming).
-Business Licenses and registrations.
-Signed and dated statement about the nature of the business and the sponsors involvement.
-Bank Statements for the previous 6 months.
And this for retired:
-Recent Pension Statements and Current Pension Payment Receipts
-Social Security Documents that indicate payments
-Complete Tax Returns
-Bank Statements for the previous 6 months
That being said, my dad’s retirement income is plenty to cover being a sponsor so I will likely just do the form I-864A for my mom’s income since they file jointly. I’ll provide as much info as possible. If they don’t ask for it, then great... but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

What specifically are you stressing over? I used a joint sponsor, and was approved at my interview this Monday.
Well my parents are co-sponsoring. My dad is retired and mom is self-employed. The tax documents required (according to The I-864 instructions) are just not ones I am used to when filling my own taxes, so just stressing over not having everything we need.

Out of interest, what documents are you planning on bringing with you?
Do you mean for our joint sponsor?

Had interview yesterday in London, they didn’t ask anything about domicile. I took a few things just in case, but it was never bought up.
That’s a relief. Now I’m just stressing over the joint sponsor docs 😕

The London Embassy is actually pretty relaxed about this. It seems like the mere act of filing for a spousal visa seems to be considered enough proof of intent to re-establish domicile. I've asked about 5 or 6 people who have had their IR1/CR1 interviews over the past few weeks - all of them brought evidence such as US bank statements, voting cards, but none of them were asked for any of this.
To be on the safe side, I was planning on bringing some sort of evidence, with the expectation that it probably won't be asked for.Good to know. I do have all the supporting evidence, so we’ll bring it just in case. But that is a load off knowing it’s not a main priority. I assume everyone in this circumstance has a joint sponsor for the I-864? Any issues with that we should expect?
