  1. Hi,

The marriage certificate writes her maiden name. When she applied for SSN using the form SS-5, she filled in the "Full name at birth" with her maiden name, and "Name to be shown on card" with the name she wishes to have (which has my last name). Was is the wrong way to do it?

For filing AOS, is it correct that we should write her maiden name only as her new married name is not a legal name yet?

    Thank you.

  2. Hi,

My fiancee came to the States this month and we just got married nearly 3 weeks ago. Our marriage certificate writes her maiden last name only. However, she wished to change her last name to mine, hence she filed for a social security number and get her last name changed before filing for AOS. Is this the correct way to do this? Our application for her SSN card was sent one week ago but she has not heard anything yet from the Social Security Office. How long would we have to wait for her to have an appointment for her SSN card? We are based in North Carolina by the way.

Thank you  all for your help.

As a side note, weddings are taking 6-8 weeks to schedule in California, and then another 6-8 weeks to get the marriage certificate. Double check all the times it would take before you book in California. I have 3-4 couples a month come from California to Las Vegas, NV to get married because I can get everything done from license to ceremony to marriage certificate in hand in about an hour. If you want quick and easy, feel free to consider Las Vegas, I can help you out like I have many couples from VJ. And, I don't charge for my services for VJ members. North Carolina should be pretty straight forward.

    Hi,

Thank you so much :) May I message you?

  4. Hi,

I will arrive in North Carolina soon on K1 visa and plan to have a wedding in either Ashville, North Carolina or San Francisco, California where my fiance comes from. I wonder if it is possible for us to get married in CA then live and do all papers work in NC? Or we can only get married in NC? My fiance is currently living in NC and we will have a house there.

And does anyone knows if the marriage process is normal in NC and CA or there is still disruption due to Covid?

    Thank you a lot :)

Amazing how quick it was for you congrats! Was your case already at the consulate or was it transferred from nvc

Our case has been at US Embassy in Helsinki since September 2020. We tried every way we could to get an interview, including sending them emails stating our situations and asking for a NIE (since my petitioner is an active duty Marine and he will be on combat deployment next year) but nothing helped. Not until they knew that we are the plaintiffs that we had an interview we are long waiting for. Yes it was very quick. Only 2 days for them to get back to us with an interview appointment. :)
