  1. I have a similar issue -- my wife and I are trying to add her to my existing savings and checking account (chase) and when providing her valid passport and social security number the bank notified me that they were unable to verify her identity.  Is this in issue with her social security number/card?  Additionally her passport has her maiden name and her SS card/state ID have her married name, would this be part of the issue with the bank verifying her identity?

    Thanks in advance,

    Will

Thanks Scandi, I’m going to request at green card interview my wife’s name change.

Just out curiosity, what letter exactly did you send to the NBC and how did you send it? If I’m able to change at green card interview if I sent a letter that would just be an extra precaution right?

I sent a letter requesting the name issue to be solved simply because I came to the US on a K-1 visa and back then far from all K-1 AOSers got an interview. Had I not gotten an interview then maybe my letter would've helped, who knows. I wanted to give it a try at least.

@Scandi how did you send a letter to NBC?  Can you provide additional details on this?  My wife and I are planning to change her last name during the AOS interview and any extra steps we can take to ensure we can do this at the interview would be helpful.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for your reply.  Yes, my wife's is the same way, the issue is that the DMV would not put the full name shown on the back on to her State ID (Read ID), stating they have to go with the info on the front of the card.

This didn't make sense to me because the Real ID instructions specifically state that the Full Name (including full middle name) should be on the Read ID because it will be used for domestic travel.

Did you have any issue like this when getting a DL or State ID at the DMV?

    Thanks,

    Will

  4. Hello Visa Journey community!

I am hoping someone can assist with an issue I am having with my wife's EAD/Green card full name shown on the front of the card.

She recently moved to the US from Brazil, everything is moving forward as planned: EAD received, Social Security Card Received, AOS I-485 form pending (last notice was that interview will be scheduled soon).

The problem is that on her EAD she only has the First Name, Middle Initial, and Last Name shown on the front of the card.  When we got married she took my last name and decided to keep her two last names and make them her middle name -- but on the EAD it just shows the first initial of her first middle name (formerly the first name of her last name).  Her family name is very important to her and she doesn't want to lose this name.  On the back of the EAD card her correct full name is there (First name, Two middle names (her former last names), my Last name) -- but when showing this at the DMV to receive her State ID (needed for Tax purposes in IL where we live) they said they are only allowed to put the name that is shown on the front of her EAD.  I assume her Green card will have the same situation (First Name, Middle Initial, Last name on the front of the card --- and then First name, Full Middle Name, Last name on the back of the card)?  The DMV refuses to put this full name on her State ID.  I know that in some cases it may be an issue of having too many characters in the name but this is not the case for us, her middle name is below the character limit.

Additionally, on her Social Security Card she has just her first name and my last name (no middle initial or middle name at all).

So with all that in mind, I am curious if anyone has fixed this issue?  Is there a way to get the full middle name added to the front of the EAD/Green Card so we can get a State ID with my wife's full name?

And second question, is it an issue that her SS Card only has first and last name -- should we get this fixed as well and add her full middle name?

Please assist, and thank you in advance.

    Best regards,

    Will

  5. Hello,

I am having a similar issue, my wife just received her EAD and SS Card, but the SS card only has first and last name, not the middle name that is shown on her EAD -- is this something we need to fix now?  I now once her AOS is complete and she receives her greencard we will have to update her SS card anyways...

    Thank you in advance!

If the entire set of Schengen countries (+ UK) couldn't get an exemption for K-1, I can't imagine Brazil getting one right now.

Option 2 is to travel tho a country not impacted by a ban for 14+ days, then entering the US (not transiting through an impacted country still).

Agreed, it's a long shot, but can't hurt to try.

In the meantime I am preparing for option 2 as you mentioned.

  7. Thanks for the info...I got her flight changed to the 28th because that's all that was available only to find Trump changed the order to go into effect today, anyone have any suggestions?

One thought was to go meet her in another country for two weeks and then come back to the US together (may Mexico or elsewhere).

    Thanks,

    Will
