I thought it would be interesting to see where in Egypt everyone's SO is from. Mine is from Cairo...closer to the Maadi area. His area is a mix of Coptic Christians and Muslims. Where are your SO's from?

How did everyone carry their evidence into the interview? We have sooo much. In Cairo especially...are we allowed a carry case? box? How did your SO carry all your evidence. How much did you take? Did you take it all? Or just a sample as in the original petition? Any help/advice is appreciated.

I remember my first experience with a bidet...my first trip to Egypt. Hmm...didnt know what to do...was checking things out..turned on the faucets...hmm...wouldn't recommend doing that unless you are SITTING on it. Shower was the same...never had a hand held..turned on water...of course the hand held part was just laying there...till the pressure hit it...imagine if you would that thing flying all over the place from the water pressure and water flying everywhere...

That my friends was my first night in an Egyptian hotel!!

We are wondering the same. My fiance uses only his first and second name. Has anyone gotten a social security card or state ID in any other way? Dropping some of the name? Im wondering if it has to be a legal name change such as through a court to be able to do it ON legal papers...BUT....it can be used as he wants for most other things...an AKA. So his legal name may have 4 names....but the one he uses is 2. I know on a credit card u can request it that way..as well as on checks...after all many checks are printed and can be ordered the way you want them from places outside of the bank..and the bank will honor it Im sure. At work on applications just use his name as he wants and in any introductions...but...would they need a court order to change it legally??? Im sure they would. Just wondering...

I bought my hubby to be a Bidet that attaches to my standard toilet. This was a concern for him because of the need to be clean for the prayers. He said he can live with everything else. I found a really good site. The one I bought was only $89 and I just finished installing it and works good. He will be very clean when he here....LOL.

Hi all,

This is a question for a friend of mine who is going doing her K1 through Cairo now. I can't personally offer her any advice or help, because my situation is Frankfurt and is vastly different.

Her fiance had his interview on Sept. 19th, all went well, and was told he'd be getting his visa in about 2 weeks. That didn't happen. After many months of waiting, my friend contacted her congresswoman's office and they intervened. Between the congresswoman's liason and her own lawyer's emails (as well as her own) they were given notice from Cairo that her fiance needed to come in and sign his visa app (this was apparently neglected at his interview). He did so in January and yet Cairo STILL has his passport and he has no visa. He passed through name checks successfully and they have never been issued an RFE. In fact, according to Cairo the only problem was him needing to sign the paperwork. So, the embassy has had his passport for nearly 6 months, no visa, no requests...nothing. Have you guys heard of this happening before? At this point they are absolutely stuck. With no passport he can't even take a job offer outside of Egypt, they certainly can't move anywhere else to get married and start their family and of course the worst part is needing answers.

Any advice, information, etc that anyone on the MENA forum can provide would be much appreciated.

Hi Jen...

My guess is they are next up for a home visit. Its about that time in the process where IF they are going to do one they will..but also, some of the name checks can go out of date...and Cairo has the option to order even more. And while they may be done in DOS...Cairo can order other reports as well. This is very common for Cairo. Especially if someone has short time together, few visits and/or age gap or other issues that send up red flags. Cairo just isn't finished with them yet. Tell them to hang in there...he can email the embassy to ask about his passport for work reasons...with Cairo...who knows..there is no rhyme or reason to what they do....I just notice that most that wait 5 months or so get a home visit next. Do they have an age gap? Did htey have short time together before filing? Hang in there...from what i've looked at with the numbers...70% get their visas in 7 months or less...so hopefully theirs will be completed soon. Id have them email again to Cairo and ask for an update...I'd be interested to find out the response...if it says he is in final review, or administrative processing...

I was thinking of buying a blanket from egypt...to keep in our room...some egyptian wall hangings...maybe his favorite toothpaste from there, soaps and colognes....learn a few egyptian food recipees...order arabic tv or online arabic football...download the Adhan on the computer...

What about you...share your ideas....we all know this is an on going process and them adjusting is just part of it.

WOW Congratulations Faith. I hope all goes well. Do not worry...I am sure you will do fine. THey did not look at anything from our Binder of evidence except my Divorce Decree. They asked for Pictures but they changed their mind and said we have enough from the original petition. You have it all together...I know you do...so all will be fine. I think we are ready...i dont have a lot of extra pics of the two of us and none of family...however im taking 3 albums full of pics...putting what i have of us in the first few pages...to make it look like more (optical illusion)..and we will take lots before the interview get them developed and start album 3...i figure...they wont look..just let them know its there...but then..i have the first chat page of every day we chatted for the last year and half...couldnt do them all...they average 50 to 60 pages a day....wow...then i have ALL my cell bills, home bills, sms records and skype records from the last year...letters, cards, packages we've mailed through post..emails from 2004 till now...summaries of those email records...ohh...and my license plates...AMRSGRL...from 2006 and 2007...i mean come on..the mans name was on my old car for 2 years...what more do they want??? I have his profile printed from 2004 when he declared his love for me....i think thats about it...anything I've missed? He has all our originals already...from both the original petition, packet 3 and all original documents...

My oldest daughter is studying Egyptian history this year in middle school. I told her if Usama gets here soon enough you can bring him in for show and tell! He liked that idea and was all pumped up about it. lol.

My husband went to my sons history class last year and talked about something (dont remember what). Now we'll see kids out and they'll point and say "he's from Egypt!" It's like he's an alien or something
