sandinista! got a reaction from LaL in American Citizen Faced Deportation
it could have been worse-pedro guzman was a mentally ill us citizen who was deported to mexico and spent 85 days in tijuana, eating out of garbage cans and sleeping on the street. when his mother alerted ice to their mistake, she filed a lawsuit to try and get the same government that wrongly deported him to mexico to help find him, but she lost. i guess there's no accountability for a federal agency that gets mentally ill people who read and write at a 2nd grade level to sign off on deportation paperwork, despite him telling the police when he was booked that he was a us citizen.

i would certainly argue that their behaviour is counter to islam's teachings, and the examples we have from the prophet in dealing with far greater offenses than cartoons coming from some frigid, boring little country in northern europe, or an american cartoon that hasn't been funny or creative for at least 10 years, and quite frankly shocked me to hear that this ####### was still on tv. (especially when shows like arrested development get the axe. southland too, damnit.) "ex-communication" is not something i am in a position to do, religiously,it's a complicated affair, and i don't have the right to declare it. but i can and do denounce repugnant, un-islamic responses to vicious bigotry. both gross me out.

there are people out there who think rape jokes are funny. people out there who think jokes about beating up women are funny. there are even people out there who think nazi/holocaust jokes are funny, i hear. i suspect though, that you wouldn't find that shite funny. does that mean you just "don't get" satire? it's not like they're defiling rape victims, or women, or nazi victims, right? i mean, those jokes are just about humor, right?

you don't hear any muslim condemnation of the violence? i can't stumble over an islam-centric blog these days, written by muslims, that isn't criticizing the violence and ugliness. where are you looking? if i'm looking for clean water to drink, i don't limit my search to mud puddles and then complain that there's just no clean water out there.

    or here,
"Let us pray for the cartoonists who see fit to insult our prophet, that they should understand our love for our prophet and that they should be guided to peace in their hearts rather than animosity for others. Let us pray for our fellow Muslims who react to prophet cartoons with anger or violence, that they should also find peace in their hearts rather than return hate with greater hate."

there are loads upon loads of more examples out there, for those who are looking.

i think you made a very important point here, and no amount of blathering on to said teacher or principal about the subjective religious importance of a 6 yr old keeping a scarf on changes that. though it's very disappointing to read how incompetently this teacher is handling the issue regardless. she should be well aware of what her legal limits are in a situation like this, and should have kept the parents of this child apprised of them from the very beginning, instead of all of the stupid bumbling around she's done. really, really incompetent.

i don't think anyone here condones teachers encouraging children to disobey parents either. and the fact that there are other students around who wear scarves is neither here nor there. it has nothing to do with any part of this issue. this teacher sounds like a complete moron though. my objection to a public school teacher enforcing any religious based facet of life on any of their students is just as strong as my objection to any teacher encouraging a child to disobey their parent. this school needs to take action sooner rather than later, though i disagree with what i think the op considers to be the most pressing issue here.

if you can't deal with the fact that you have no entitlement whatsoever in the united states to be free of other people's disturbing and offensive practice of their religious beliefs than perhaps you should have stayed in new zealand. for everyone's good.
if it were the case that everything that the united states stood for would crumble into the ocean because there are some women here walking around in burqas, than what would be the point of standing behind something so weak and worthless? fortunately, that's not the case.

do tell what the alternate meaning of "we should just have turned that shithole into a litterbox" is then, if not referring to total annihilation.
    par for the course.

nope, not angry or bitter. but do go on if you must, about a clearly tongue-in-cheek avatar, whilst ignoring comments expressing regret that the united states didn't melt the flesh from the bones of over 25 million afghans 9 years ago. priorities, priorities.
