  1. Someone PLEASE give me a good reason not to buy this I am sooooooooooooooo close to hitting the checkout button.

I hope I'm not to late for the intervention, but the reason NOT to buy it is b/c it's $46!!!! Seriously, and she'll wear it how long? Unless you plan on another girl or a cute niece to hand it off to, I say it's way too much $$!

  2. just felt like adding this: (goes along with what Jenn said)

I don't care if anyone has a mahr or not. But is it necessary to brag about how much you got? IMO I think thats private info that I wouldn't share with a public message board. :whistling:

    me too!

    :pop:

Can u share some of that leyla?

Of course I have Munchos, Popcorn, Coke (diet Coke) Hummus, Pita Bread and of course Moroccan Mint tea. Please help yourself :)

    That's *Coca Light*

  3. I have some concerns about paypal. It seems ppl keep fishing for my paypal account number. I have an item for sale online and only ppl from the UK, Canada, and Africa are looking to purchase it and send me the money through paypal. So it makes me wonder if they are scammers....

Maybe I'll post about this in off topic.

Now, I do often get phishing scams from people posing to be from paypal (update your acct info, etc) but I know how to tell a phishing scam from the real thing and have never fallen for it. I do always report them though. Perhaps this is an issue for you?

  4. Do you guys trust paypal? If someone asked for your paypal account to send you money would you give it to them?

I've never had a problem w/ it either - both sending & receiving. I've used it for both business & personal matters. I've also found PP's customer service to be of the highest quality. I've even spoken to them on the phone concerning a matter related to my ex-husband trying to use my account. They were ever so helpful.

  5. lets say my sister came to me and sd " my husband paid 20,000 for ME and i was worth every penny" thats buying her, and thats her being property now, not a wife

But if she came to me and sd " oh Jason bought me a beautiful engagment ring and i sd yes" that is her accepting to be his wife without payment, bc she can always get rid of the ring and still marry him

I think you're referring to Queen Whitey w/ the golden cootchie that announced that of herself yesterday... she doesn't know wth she's talking about. I believe everyone (for the most part) does NOT think this way. Whack jobs abound in every forum

  6. BUMMER. I just posted in platy's thread that got deleted.

I was going to suggest the following topics for a record breaking locked thread day:

    • Would you accept a second wife?
    • Are all MENA men terrorists?
    • Did you convert for your husband?
    • How long did you know your husband before marrying him?
    • Have you met your mena man's family?
I have more but I'm only 1/2 way through my second cup. I have a boring day planned.

eta - what's the age difference between you and your spouse? (to add to above)

Wasn't there one (or a few) also about whether or not premarital sex was haram if you were "Islamically" married, but not "legally" married?:innocent:

  7. I say forego the pics... I cannot pay ~$50 for a cookbook.

As for the rice cooker, I've found the only way it doesn't stick to the bottom is to first oil the bottom, then put the water & rice in. Then again, I mostly use brown jasmine rice for everything rice related. Maybe white rice doesn't do that.

    Harissa Roasted Turkey

Thanks to Marlene P. of Tucson, Arizona for sharing this recipe.

    One 6-7 pound turkey

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

    4 garlic cloves

    2 cinnamon sticks

1/2 medium yellow onion, finely chopped

    1 cup Harissa

Harissa Stuffing (see below for recipe)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Rinse the turkey under cold water and pat dry. Sprinkle on all sides with salt and pepper. Stuff the garlic cloves, cinnamon sticks, and onion into the neck cavity, and seal it closed with a wooden skewer or toothpick. Generously rub the harissa over and under the skin.

Place the turkey breast skin side up on a roasting rack in a roasting pan and cover with foil. Roast, basting occasionally with the juices that accumulate in the bottom of the pan, until and instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of the breast reads 160 degrees and the juices run clear, about 1 1/2 hours. during the last 20 minutes of cooking remove the foil to brown the skin. Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.

    Harissa Stuffing

    1/4 cup olive oil, divided

    2 Tbsp. lightly crushed almonds

1/2 loaf white bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 4 cups)

2 medium parsnips, peeled and cup into 1-inch cubes

    2 cinnamon sticks

3 garlic cloves, cut in half

3 shallots, cut into 1/4-inch dice

2 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch cubes

    1 Tbsp. Harissa

    1 cup chicken stock

    1/2 cup orange juice

    1 Tbsp. honey

    2 tsp. chopped thyme

    1 tsp. salt

    1/2 cup raisins

    1 Tbsp. chopped parsley

Heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the almonds and bread crumbs and saute for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil in a Dutch oven or other large pot. Add the parsnips and cinnamon sticks and saute for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, shallots, quinces, and harissa and saute until the garlic is golden, about 5 minutes. Stir in the chicken stock, orange juice, and honey, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes.

Add the thyme, salt raisins, and almonds and bread cubes and stir until well combined. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until heated through. Stir in the chopped parsley.

If you need a recipe for harissa, just holla... I've got one (I think it's been posted here before).

  9. My husband's job is giving us a turkey, and i know how to make it the american way, but is there a different way they make it in morocco? If so, can you tell me, i'd like to try something different!

I don't know that there is a specific way to cook or season a turkey in Morocco, but I received a newsletter last week from a Moroccan spice company that had a recipe in it for turkey w/ Harissa. It's on my other computer, but you might find it here on their website: www.zamourispices.com - I'll post it from the newsletter when I log in to the other computer.

  10. After having an ex husband who made every excuse in the book not to work...I would say you should consider yourself lucky. The man wants to work and get started with his life. Most men do not take well to sitting at home with nothing to do. Your working alot is only putting more pressure on him to get started. I'm sure he's feeling terrible, and immasculated by having to stay at home...especially if he's a MENA man. As for looking things up, show him how to do it, make him write down the directions and then he can do it himself...it will also occupy some of his time so he doesn't use it to drive you crazy.

Narina, were you married to my ex-husband too?
