  1. Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how the years for greencard is tabulated to apply for citizenship. In my case I lived with greencard in US for 18 years, then moved abroad for 3 years and now on green card again. My birth country recently allowed dual citizenship so now I'm motivated to become us citizen without giving up my original.

Both greencard periods have been on IR1 based,  married to us citizen and we been married for 20 years. Will the first period count towards the 3 years or does a new greencard mean a new period of 3 years holding it. From reading instructions it seems i need 3 years from this last card but thought I'd check.

    Thanks!

    You can

Your birth certificate should be the exact one listed for your country in the reciprocity list: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Norway.html

My Danish birth certificate also only lists the names of my parents and that was not an issue.

Excellent resource that link. Thanks then I should be ok, I must have misread the email. Many thanks for the quick replies 👍

  3. I have another question that might be specific to Norway, possibly Denmark. Have any of those who completed interview had issues with Norwegian birthcertificate not having the parents birthday or place on it?

My birthcertificate just states parentes name and in the appointment email it specifically mentioned parents day of birth and place needs to be on it.... I'm thinking maybe getting their birthcertificates as well just in case. Anyone have issues with this?

I would stay at a place close to the embassy so I could walk there, I wouldn't trust public transport etc to be on time, it's too important to take the chance.

I stayed at "STF Gärdet" (which is a vandrarhem, a hostel) simply because it was very close to the embassy (you just walk across a field, took about 10 minutes) and because it's cheaper than a hotel (had already spent enough on immigration stuff at that point). I checked out before leaving for the embassy in the morning as I had to be out by noon but had no idea how long it would take at the embassy, the hostel gladly kept my bag there for me while I was at my interview, egen though I had already checked out. Good service, good breakfast. You have your own room for just a few hundred kronor. You can also buy bus tickets there, in case you want to take the bus to the central station afterwards.

I recommend it, very pleasant experience for a hostel.

Thank you both for quick replies. That gives me an idea what's around there and being there the morning of is probably best. Again thank you both.

  5. Hello all, I have a scheduled interview at the us embassy in September and im wondering if anyone logistically have done this from Norway. I'm not in Oslo area so will have to transfer thru there or drive from home, either way I think it would plan on a night in Stockholm before interview.

Does anyone recommend a hotel or method of transport from hotel to embassy that's effective? These day I want to move as safely as possible including stay at hotels... Any tips appreciated

  6. Hello all, so after months of waiting finally got to the last stage of the nvc application. for a few weeks now it was "in processing" but unlocked now. I was expecting to see a webform but it looks like I need to fill out scan and upload but my problem is I can't seem to find the W form anywhere. As an example I found this page with instructions but link to download is broken.

Quick background is that I'm moving back to states with my wife. I worked there and should qualify for excemption due to 40 quarters. I have all documentation except the form. All links go to either a dead page or adjustment of status page.

The i-846 just mentions exceptions but not where to get the form. If anyone has a link to it or has it I'd really appreciate a copy.

Most of this process has been smooth but I'm hoping this missing form isn't due to some change.

    Thanks!

OP, a slight correction is needed for the above; spousal visa applicants from Norway will interview in Stockholm.

Ah, just doesn't get easier. We filed the form online so now we wait I suppose.

I didn't become us citizen as I'd have to give up my Norwegian at the time and that was not a real option. That changed this year with retro effect so could have, would have and so on.

We are not looking forward to up to a year of this processing but is it really true that it's not advisable to travel to US while I-130 is processing using a visa waiver?

Only one option, IR1 not that bit really matters, and then you interview at your local Consulate. How are you going to be sponsored, is your wife going back first?

Yeah she's going first and we'll be separated for a while. I lived there for over 10 years so I think the requirement for sponsor doesn't apply I'm my case but either way, we're not going without at least one job there and probably will just attach docs for income when that time comes.

  9. Hello all, I've read some of the other posts similar to my situation but I'm still unclear on a couple items and didn't want to hijack an existing topic so hope this is ok.

Quick background, I am an Norwegian citizen married to my wonderful US citizen for 20 years, we have a son who has both citizenships the lucky guy.... I moved to US 20 years ago and went the fiancee route at the time but we all returned to Norway for a while, leading me to return the green card, and now plan on going back. The mrs and kid will go first this winter/spring. I understand the process hasn't exactly sped up so dreading that part.....

I figured our first step will be filing for the I-130 from Norway, seems to be an online application now and we'll probably try that. Can this safely be done while mrs and myself are living in Norway? She'll move at some point this winter but hopefully that won't mess with the application.... will it?

After that I'm a bit more fuzzy as there seems to be two options:

Either file a I-129F after getting a "transfer notice" or an receipt of the I-130

or wait for approval of I-130 and file a "DS-260" with NVC (National Visa Center)

Is one preferred over the other? it seems the I-129F doubles the paperwork and cost, if it's not faster is there som other purpose?

    Any tips appreciated.
