  1. Perhaps everyone got it wrong. Perhaps they're all reading into things in ways they shouldn't. So what.

I'll cross my fingers that all you people who sent in your applications towards the end of August, whatever kind they are, get a NOA1 for Xmas. The wait after is bearable, you'll have the relief of knowing that you don't have to send in a new application and your forms made it to the right place to get you on your visa journey. (L)

  2. I'd like to give Marlita the benefit of the doubt and look at the intent behind her words.

It seems to me that what she would like is to see I-130's start to get processed once more. It's clear that they haven't processed any for some time, with the dates not having changed for a couple of months. It's clear that they've worked on some applications.

Marlita - it's likely USCIS is working through a systematic process to try and clear backlogs by going through each type in turn. I have every hope that soon they will start the I-130 processing and get all those frustrated people waiting for some notification that their mail made it to the right place some news.

If you'd like to get in touch with your congressman I'd say go for it. It'd be better to choose your wording more carefully and focus on the problem - USCIS are behind in processing. Definitely don't ask them to put some applications aside in favor of others.

I don't think anyone thinks they're more important in their need to be with their loved ones than anyone else. Those of you who have been through this separation will remember how frustrating it is, and how that frustration can lead you to express yourself or your opinions in a way you didn't mean. Yes Marlita did use the word 'halted', she later said that's not what she meant.

It's great to see conversation on the board, it's also great to see differing opinions, and support, or suggestions for change. Hopefully Marlita can find a constructive way to approach her congressman and maybe help[ effect some change for us all.

(As for no one is attacking anyone - I don't think telling someone their selfish and think they're a special case is that vague)

  3. Thanks for posting.

Your experience sounds weird and frustrating!

My husband called his insurance company when I was last over and they said they'd only add me if I got a CA drivers license. I think you may be right, the best way will be to rent a car and drive it to Disneyland.

Bit of a waste of money since I'll have my own car sitting there doing nothing, but oh well.

    :(

  4. My thoughts are with those of you who still have not received an NOA1. I can't believe that people who sent in applications in August are still waiting to hear from USCIS.

I get so many people asking me when I'm going to be moving to live with my husband who just stare at me in shock when I tell them it's likely a year away due to immigration processes. I'm sure they think I'm lying about the extensive wait times and lack of information!

  5. It's not true that you would get 'bounced' if you told them you were visiting to get married, though you will get taken aside and asked a few questions.

I went to the USA in August and told them I was there to get married. I had to go through and answer some questions, got my bag searched etc before I was sent through and wished well.

There's no reason to declare it, but it's also not illegal to enter, marry and then leave again.

  6. Hi all,

I've been trying to find a way to get drivers insurance without having a CA drivers license.

    This is for two reasons

1 - when I visit my husband I often drive around in his car. Even if I have travel insurance it won't cover me for any liability if I have an accident. This effectively means I'm driving around uninsured.

2 - CA drivers license requires a SSN# before you can apply. I know there's a downtime of 2 - 4 weeks (average) before you get your greencard and SSN# sent to you. I'm hoping to use that downtime to take my son for a trip to Disneyland and will be driving us there, I'd like to be insured.

Does anyone know of a company that will insure visitors or those with a foreign drivers license?
