Got my surrender certificate last week. It took about 10 days from handing my application package to Fedex and receiving the letter and canceled passport delivered to me. Pleasantly surprised!

On to the OCI portion now....

Which Indian embassy did you send your renunciation application?

I have mailed my application via fedex on 19-Jul-2021 to Houston and hoping I will get certificate within 2 weeks.

  2. I have changed my name via N-400. Thats why I need to update DL, SSN, Bank Accounts etc.. as soon as possible.

Texas law says that within 30 days of name change, I need to update Drivers License.

If you are not changing name, you can update DL, SSN after few weeks. No need to hurry now.

However, even without name change, I recommend updating. Because if your DL record do not show Citizenship Status, when you DL renew is due in future, you cannot renew online and have to visit DPS every few years.

If Citizenship status is not updated in SSN, when you change jobs or request any social security benefits you may face some challenges.

Also DPS will not allow to renew your DL online if your SSN do not show Citizen status.

  3. Question on judicial oaths.

I have heard that some field offices are not giving name change certificates signed by judge at the time of oath ceremony. Instead they are mailing them after couple of weeks.

Anyone who recently attended your judicial oath in Dallas received name change certificate on the same day along with naturalization certificate?

I have my oath ceremony next week. If they do not give name change certificate on same day, I'm concerned I cannot apply for US passport or update DL and SSN card.

I would appreciate if anyone can share their experiences

Congratulations! Only one step left, almost there.

And happy to know that the interviews are not disrupted by the Covid spike, was a bit worried that they might cancel the interviews too like they did the oaths. One more month for my interview 🤞

Did the IO give a time frame for the Oath? Since yours is a name change it might take a month or two. I read on another forum that the courts still haven't released the schedule yet. Please do post an update when you know your Oath date & place. If you are under the Northern District, you can check the schedule here (if & when they update it) - http://www.txnd.uscourts.gov/naturalization-ceremony-schedule

I'm in eastern district and they do not publish their schedule online. My wife was approved on 18-Nov with name change and still waiting for oath date. During my interview officer is guessing eastern district will schedule before end of Feb. However, he is not sure as it all depends on the court & Judge availability. Not in USCIS hands. I do not have outside country travel plans and can wait for couple of months. Thats why decided to go ahead with name change.

Did you have a combo I751/N400 interview? If so, did they ask anything particular? Also, did they use the 2008 civics questions? did they ask you 10 questions or once u answer 6 correctly you move forward!

Not a combo interview. I have applied on 5 year employment based GC category.

They have asked 2008 questions. 2020 version of questions are applicable only when you apply on or after 1-Dec-2020. I have applied in Dec 2019.

Hi all got my interview notice in mail ,

What documents do you need to take with you for interview??

is there a document checklist ??

    plz share

    thank you

Last month my wife attended interview with lots of documents. Immigration officer asked only the following:

    1. Interview Letter

    2. Green Card

    3. Passport

    4. Drivers License

I would suggest to take the following as well.

    1. Last 5 years tax transcripts from IRS (you can download from IRS website)

    2. If you have any traffic citations or fines, proof to show you have paid the fines or any court documentation like court disposition letter.

If you are applying citizenship base don 3-year rule. they may ask additional documents.

For 5-year based, I don't think you need to take any other documents.

Congrats! When did you had your naturalization interview? My wife had on 11/29 and still shows "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled".

Did your wife asked for name change. Name changes require oath administered by a federal judge and will take few weeks.

My wife attended her interview on 18-Nov in Dallas and waiting for oath date. She asked for name change.

  8. They will post the letter usually the next business day. I got interview scheduled status yesterday and today after 9am letter showed up under documents tab. For some filers letter did not show up until few days.

Since you have not filed online, I'm not sure if it will show up online. Anyways you will get it via USPS mail within a week after online status changed to interview scheduled.
