SSN is not necessary to get health insurance in the US.  All that is needed is full name and date of birth, plus a copy of our Brazilian marriage certificate and English translation.  I added my husband to my US health insurance when he was still living in Brazil with no visa, no SSN, no ITIN, nothing but name and date of birth.  It can be done if you work with HR.

Thank you. Yes I know it's worked for some. Should they just keep pushing until they find someone who will let them? The people they talked to so far are adamant about the SSN

K1s aren't eligible,  adjustment of status applicants are.

Does that mean those who already submitted the AOS forms? He is holding off on that because of the i944, they want to be able to answer the insurance question with a yes

What is the issue adding to spouses insurance?

They won't add him without a SSN. He applied a few days after entry, before marriage, SSA said 4 weeks. We want him to have insurance ASAP esp. with the virus going around and also to be ae to submit AOS soon.

SSN is not required his spouse needs to kick it up the line until she gets to somebody who knows what they are doing.

They really are not budging. Who should we ask to talk to?

Would have been much easier if a SSN had been obtained after entry.

He did, two days after entry. He got married after 5 days after entry. No SSN yet SSA said 4 weeks. Is there a way to check status of the actual SSN (not SAVE; SAVE says returned to agency).

Nonsense,  I was able to get full coverage insurance for my wife within 30 days of her arrival and almost a year prior to her green card.

Do you mind sharing which insurance company? Or how?

My stepson (K-1 entry, now married) need to have insurance ASAP (virus concerns) but his wife's insurance won't add him without a SSN. He already applied but you know how long it takes.

We want him to have insurance now, any help is greatly appreciated.

  5. Hi, I'm asking for my stepson who is coming in as a K1.

I'm wondering if there's any insurance option that a K1 can avail upon/shortly after arrival. He will be added to his future spouse's health insurance but they are getting married a month after his arrival. (His fiancée will be on a work trip in another state, thus the wait.) We would like for him to have insurance during that time period, while waiting, especially with the Corona virus issue going on.

    Thanks!

I meant to say for renewal of the passport the consulate wants a copy of your GC ... not ROM.   Just the same no issue waiting .. my wife filed ROM 10 months after getting married.

Is it possible to do the renewal without the green card?

Hi thanks so much! 🙂 Yep. I was told to get a polio vaccine before leaving for US. They said that the immigration in the US will ask for it when I arrive.

I had three vaccines only the tdap, mmr and varicella. There's no polio vaccine written in the document. I was told that whenever i get one i should also get a certificate from them which has fee but the vaccine itself is for free.

    Hope this answers your question.

Thank you so much. That's interesting, I've only seen people who did their medicals in Feb. be told to get the polio vaccine. I know a couple of people who did their medical in Jan and there was no mention of it. Makes me wonder if they have to do it too, if they're not in the US yet. Thanks again.

Yep. I got all those Hank! Yay! I'm so happy If I indeed passed them 😁. Just one more step. Hope i pass the interview.

Oh btw, the NVC spelled the last letter of my middle name incorrectly. It's suppose Z but they spelled it S. Should I be worried about that?

Congratulations on passing the medical! Just a few quick questions, since some reported being asked to get a polio vaccine outside of SLEC. ( I'm doing a survey, trying to figure out what's going on.)

How many vaccines did you get?

Were you told to get the polio vaccine?

On your DS3025, vaccination record, is polio vaccine marked as A (not age appropriate)?

Hope you can answer those! Thanks!

Re: NVC Do you mean the email from them? If so, you should be fine, just fill out correctly the DS-160.

    Good luck on your interview!

  9. Hello all. Just a quick surgery trying to know more about this Polio Vaccination order.

    When was your medical?

Did you/your fiance get the polio vaccine as a child?

Which region of the Philippines are you/your fiance from?

Also, is this required by the US? Or just the Philippine government? (aka Was this polio vaccine request made by SLEC or USEM?)

  10. I'd say go for it, the worst that can happen is that they deny your request to expedite.

Recently, someone on VJ was able to expedite just because they wanted to spend the spouse's birthday together... It doesn't seem like grounds to expedite but they were able to anyway...

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through, hoping for a speedy immigration process for your husband, and for your baby to be well.

Well, if you're doing AOS from a K-1, you should have married within the US :D

Well, yes.  This is where timelines are helpful 😉

    Just wondering.

Yea, sorry about the timeline. Did this whole process about 20 years ago, just here to ask for people I know who need help with it or to clarify things I hear/read

That is very cool!  Thanks for the info.   I am impressed that the embassy is "that on the ball" and is now scheduling the interviews for those that EXPEDITE.  (need to update my website ;) )

Hi Hank, I read of someone who got to expedite because they want to spend the spouse's birthday together. I didn't realize that's a valid reason to expedite. Is it common to not need a pressing reason? Thanks

OP, sorry to hijack your post.

Hi, I'm here again. I just need some inputs regarding the medical and Interview timeframes. So, I scheduled my Interview on March 3rd. That's Tuesday. Planning on getting my medical on Monday which is March 2nd. Would I be able to finish my medical exams on Monday and then be ready for the internist on Tuesday? I'm a little scared that I might not have enough time.

    No, no, no.

At least 2 days for medical and then a day between the second day and the interview

For example: Monday and Tuesday medical, Thursday interview

The results of the medical will not be there on the day of your interview, but you should be fine. Your approval will be delayed until they get them, but it probably won't be a long delay - maybe a week or so. My husband was in exactly the same situation and had to wait about a week for his approval and about two weeks for the Visa to arrive.

It doesn't work that way for Manila embassy.
