  1. Closing the loop on my journey - N400 interview at the SF office 8/18 (~13 months after initial application, 3 year rule via marriage).

Interview (via iPad) was very straightforward. I was offered same day oath but was traveling internationally the next day, so they offered a new date of 8/30. I was slightly worried because my oath ceremony was scheduled within 10 days of my return from travel, but the agent at the front deck just asked some questions about the travel itself and all was good.

Already registered to vote and my application for passport just submitted!

Thanks to the entire community for their support over the past few years. It's a long road. Good luck!

  2. July 19 update - New Card Is Being Produced!

Really thought I'd get a combo with my N400 application. 25.5 months processing time. 🤯

    Thrilled!

Wondering if anyone has experience with this:
Got a RFE for my I-751 - the request was for us to sign the petition. The letter stated that they "cannot accept photocopied signatures."  The thing is - we definitely signed our petition in June 2019 (I have a scan).

My case was transferred to the National Benefits Center last year, so the only thing I can think of is they transferred a photocopy of my original (mailed) petition. Does anyone have an experience similar to this? Frustrating that it's likely to add even more time to my processing.

    Any insights/thoughts welcome! Thank you!

    My timeline:

    • June 2019 - I-751 filed (CA Service center).
    • January 2020 - I-751 Biometrics
    • June 2020 - Filed N-400 (San Francisco local office)
    • Aug 2020 - I-751Case transferred
    • Dec 2020 - N-400 Biometrics reuse
    • June 2021 - I-751 Requested update as outside normal processing time
    • June 2021 - I-751 RFE

    Hello Everyone,

I applied for my I-751 on 06/13/2019, and I have my "Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview" status since September 3rd, 2020. My 18 month period expires on 01/25/2020.

Do I have to request an extension if they do not schedule my interview before that date? If so, could someone point me in the right direction?

Is there any chance they are waiving interviews? My wife and I are in Hawaii now and it could be a hassle logistically to interview across the country.

Thank you! I appreciate any help!

Hi there, I also filed my I-751 in June 2019 and my 18 month period expires in early Feb 2021. You're legal visa status will not expire on 01/25/2020, just your evidence of it. Your visa status remains the same until they make a final decision on your case.

If you require evidence of your visa status (for work or to travel intentionally, for example) you will need to get an appointment to receive an I-555 stamp in your passport. You can do so by calling the USCIS Contact Center on 800-375-5283. I've read on these forums that they'll only schedule an appointment if the matter is urgent (impending travel that can't be avoided or a work visa issue, etc) and apparently it takes a while to get an appointment. Haven't called myself, but planning to do so closer to Feb.

Perhaps other folks on this forum can speak to the logistics of getting the I-555 stamp after their 18 month extension expired?...

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

  5. Hi, June 2019 I-751 filer here (SF, CA). My I-797 18-month ROC expires in Feb 2021.

Has anyone tried to get an I-551 stamp during Covid-times?

Do y'all think I can schedule an appt two months in advance of expiry, or do you recommend waiting to closer to my expiry date?  Anyone with experience of appointments in San Francisco?  I've been reading lots of horror stories about no appointments being available for I-551 stamps (due to Covid) unless it's an "emergency".

Any suggestions very welcome!  Thank you!

    My timeline:

    • 6/2019 Filed/received Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence / Received I-797 Notice of action 18 month extension.
    • 1/2020 I-751 Biometrics appt
    • 6/2020 N-400 Submitted / received
    • 8/2020 Your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, was transferred to another USCIS office.
    • 8/2020 I-751 Case Was Transferred And A New Office Has Jurisdiction (Lee's Summit, MO)
    • 2/2021 I-797 Notice of action 18 month extension expires

  6. Hi, I received an update online for my I-751 to say "My Case Transferred And New Office Has Jurisdiction." Originally a WAC receipt number (I'm in San Francisco) - no info on new office in this email. This is the fist movement since I-751 NOA in June 2019 - I filed my N-400 in June 2020.

Can anyone share any insight on what to expect next?

    My timeline:

    • I-751 filed: 6/5/2019
    • I-751 case updated with fingerprints: 31/1/2020
    • N-400 Form/Evidence Submitted & Receipt Notice: 06/17/2020
    • I-751 case transferred: 8/5/2019

Additionally, I'm moving in 10 days - thoughts on changing my address with USCIS now, or should I wait 10 days and ensure I get this transfer notice first?

    Thanks!!

Hi all, I'm also planning on traveling from SFO - Mexico (City) and my conditional green card is now expired and I have the 18 month I-797 Notice of Action for travel.

I am an Irish citizen / passport holder - and I note Irish passport holders do not need a visa to enter Mexico for vacation.

Question: Can I simply enter Mexico via SFO (where I live) using my Irish passport - and ignore all the expired green card / I-797 NoA / visa issues?  ... Or will they regard me as a US resident with an expired PRC who needs a visa for travel?

Thank you for any insights you all may have.

To follow up for others with similar predicaments:

I went to the Mexican Consulate today to apply for a visa (no appointment, ~30 min wait) and was told by the visa officer that as a citizen/passport holder of a country that waves tourist visas for entry to Mexico I would not need to apply for a visa, even under the expired green card / I-797 NoA circumstances.  Obviously I will need to travel with this documentation to regain entry to the US.

Hope this is helpful information for others.
