  1. Hello,

I'll be leaving out of SFO tomorrow to see my honey in Manila. I've bought her flowers from Manila Florist islandrose.net and they seem to be delivered in a timely fashion. But the roses don't seem to last very long. I'm considering taking flowers with me from US to surprise her. Anyone know any tips? I would want to carry on to keep them properly, but I don't know:

    1) if US will not allow me to carry flowers out of the country

    2) if Philippines has agricultural restrictions

    Thank you,

    Chris

P.S. I've been lurking around the forums and have found visajourney so helpful. I definitely benefited from the recommendations on how to send the K1 application.

I always received bouquet from my hubby from island rose. They have quality flowers and it last more than a week. Even the service and packaging is GREAT!

  2. You don't find her devotion to her child admirable?

I find it a little sickening, actually...since she's already gotten preferential treatment by having the testing over 2 days. Now, that's not good enough either.

She's using her kid as an excuse...and if a parent....READ, non gender specific...wants to join the workforce, then leave the kid excuses at the door. Sure, the kids will be sick and then there are the school things and all that other jazz....but if you're going to be a professional, then be able to handle the tasks of that profession without wah wahing all the way up to the supreme court.

I could care less about her devotion to her kid. That's between her and her kid and no one else. But she should be able to stand with the rest of her colleagues by being treated equally.

People often have other distractions (as Artegal pointed out) that take them away from doing their jobs. If we're going to allow mothers in the workforce then it makes sense to compensate for their special needs, provided they can do an effective job. I don't think a lactating mother is liability to company at all.

We're talking about an upcoming residency issue, which imo should not call for any special treatment. Those residents battle a grueling schedule. Why is it like that? Well who really knows...but if that is the system that makes doctors....well, sorry...should she do that, she would be setting the feminist movement back loads by possibly asking for preferential treatment..

Can you see Demi Moore in GI Jane asking her DI for time to change her maxipad?

I don't begrudge anyone working, and I believe that this woman has made hellacious accomplishments....perhaps she didn't manage her family plan all that great though. I'm a firm believer in either being the ultimate career woman or the ultimate mom....but you cannot be both at the same time without something falling short. I admire this lady's efforts to 'have it all'...but the medical indoctrination (get it? har! har!) should not have to be revamped for individuals to get it molded around their convenience.

HELLO!!! You wont feel that for now coz you're not a mother yet! :P

I would rather want to know your timeline than being sickened with this issue!

  3. HILLARY CLINTON: WARRIOR OR BULLY?

    by ####### Morris

    August 30, 2007.

If women are from Venus and men are from Mars, the former valuing peace and the other reveling in war, Hillary Rodham Clinton is a lot more like Mars than Venus. She loves war. Indeed, like a dolphin or a submarine, she can only define where she is or who she is by bouncing her sonar off her opponents. It is only in the crucible of conflict that she is truly alive and self-aware. Conflict is the principle which permits her to organize her life. Peacetime is an invitation to entropy.

Hillary Clinton’s handlers like to promote her image as an embattled warrior — a relentless foot soldier dedicated to the dual crusades of fighting for the exalted principles of goodness and light while simultaneously defeating the ever-present forces of darkness and evil. A modern-day Celtic warrior queen or Joan of Arc — that’s the spin on Hillary.

But in reality, Hillary’s favorite wars are much less lofty and much more self-centered and mean-spirited. Hillary emphatically comes from the “us versus them” school of American politics. Like Richard Nixon, the politician she so closely resembles, she sees the world in extraordinarily simple terms: there are those who agree with her and support her and then there’s the rest of the world. Those who don’t agree with her are bunched together and known collectively as “the enemy” — that vast right wing conspiracy that must be vilified, beaten, and destroyed … whatever it takes.

To Hillary, this easily quantifiable adversary is unquestionably the source of all evil. Therefore, any means of obliterating them is acceptable. She thrives on identifying, assailing, and defeating them. Her hatred for this ubiquitous enemy is actually a source of enormous strength — it motivates her, energizes her, keeps her going and reminds her of her superiority.

Now she even claims that it is actually her experience in beating the right wing that makes her the most qualified democrat to be president. At the last debate, she touted her success:

“And I will say that for 15 years I have stood up against the right-wing machine, and I’ve come out stronger. So if you want a winner who knows how to take them on, I’m your girl.”

Interestingly, she doesn’t exhibit the same passion for the real enemies of the U.S. — like Al Qaeda. You don’t hear her promising to take on, defeat, or destroy them. No, it’s the Republicans and the right wing that incite her wrath, sarcasm and rage.

And, she’s taken it even one step further. Her concerns about another terror attack on the U.S. are apparently rooted in fear. Not fear for American lives, but fear that the Republicans would benefit from an attack. According to Hillary:

“If certain things happen between now and the election, particularly with respect to terrorism, that will automatically give the Republicans an advantage again, no matter how badly they have mishandled it, no matter how much more dangerous they have made the world.”

Everything, even the threat of losing innocent American lives, is secondary to her obsession with crushing the right wing and Republicans.

I don’t think a victory for her in November of ’08 will satiate her hunger for destroying her evil enemies. To the contrary, it will embolden her.

If she becomes president, look for a permanent “War Room” in the White House. Hillary loves War Rooms. She started using them in the 1992 campaign in Arkansas to seek and destroy the women — like Gennifer Flowers — who had been involved with Bill and might embarrass him by telling the truth. That bunker used almost $100,000 of federal campaign funds to hire private detectives to intimidate Bill’s women. Then, she created her Health Care War Room in the White House — operating in secret to advance her virtuous cause and overpower her adversaries. After she resoundingly lost the health care reform issue, she closed down the War Room.

But in 1998, when the Monica Lewinsky story broke, Hillary created the biggest War Room ever. Its purpose was to destroy those who dared to support impeaching her husband. Describing the unfolding of the scandal, Hillary described it as a “battle” on The Today Show. After the private peccadilloes of the speaker and other members of the House Judiciary Committee were publicized in favored liberal organs and Monica Lewinsky was depicted as a stalker and a loser, Hillary was vindicated. Now she knows just how to deal with those who get in her way.

    She’s not a warrior, she’s a bully.

SORRY Gary! I really don't know about Politics! :crying:

  6. OTHER THAN a thread gone horribly wrong ie wayy tmi for the OP which causes embarrassment, I don't see why the OP of any thread 'gets the power' so to speak to shut down an entire convo. I've said this before, so this is nowt new, but it does irritate me with 'I think I'll lock this soon' and 'please close this thread' when there's NO APPARANT REASON.

    Your thoughts?

It's just in your mind! :D Maybe that's just an early sign of having "AIDS" ( Acquired Irritability Due to Singleness)

  7. Lots of dreaming going on in here :D

    Yeah, you're right! ;)

I remember our neighbor in the Philippines... before the family used to eat with their hands, after buying lotto everyday, his family is now using spoons when eating... coz they can't eat CONGEE or "lugaw" with their hands.

  8. sister jinky, there are some sick people out there.....beyond any measure of reality...

Yeah, you're right! But it's sad to know that others don't want their babies, while my cousin back in the Philippines tried everything (from one doctor to another) just to have one, but they can't! How I wish God just gave the baby to them... for sure the baby will be well-loved! :crying:

  9. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kansas City police are investigating a 20-year-old woman who allegedly tried to flush her newborn son down the toilet at a McDonald's restaurant.

Both the baby and the mother, a Kansas City resident who works at the McDonald's, are at the hospital being treated after the Monday afternoon incident. Police said the child is expected to survive.

"Fortunately, the baby's fine," Capt. Rich Lockhart said today. "The baby's at the hospital getting treatment. The mother's at the hospital getting treatment. We're investigating it."

No charges had been filed as of late this morning. Lockhart said police have interviewed workers at the McDonald's and planned to talk to the mother once she's able to speak to them.

"She's being treated, and we haven't been able to talk to her to get her side of all of this," Lockhart said.

Police will then consult with prosecutors to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.

The incident occurred about 12:50 p.m. Monday. Lockhart said workers became concerned after the woman failed to return from the restroom. The workers quickly called paramedics after checking on the woman.

Lockhart said the woman allegedly told paramedics that she had tried to flush the baby down the toilet several times. When paramedics arrived, he said, the child was still in the toilet and wasn't breathing. They administered CPR, then rushed the baby and mother to the hospital. Police were notified about 2:30 p.m., Lockhart said.

"The mother told paramedics that she didn't know she was pregnant," he said.

The newborn has been placed in the temporary custody of children's services, Lockhart said. Still unclear is whether the woman has other children, he said.

Can't believe why she did that! :o

  10. It goes back to 100 different definitions of trust. Which (especially in an 'off the cuff' way and when it's brought up vis a vis marriage) for most people 'trust' first implies 'fidelity' or maybe 'honesty'.

Sussing out someone's character, and being comfortable with what you learn, is IMO a larger indicator as to whether or not that relationship will be successful.

Maybe it means trusting your own self to go with your faith in that person.

    :yes::thumbs:

(sorry, this Steven posting on Jinky's account)

  11. ;) Got a mirror?

I have to say I find it funny that you're so miffed over my views on money and how they related in a relationship. Yanno, basically things that really have no relevance to you or anyone other than me and my partner whatsoever.

But hey, if you want to come across all bitter...by all means, please continue!

  12. Filipinas don't need makeup :P

Most Asian women IMO do Not need makeup, My wife looks Beautiful without makeup,

I prefer less cosmetics on her.

    I agree!

For me, it's a waste of time! :D

  13. Oh, the irony. My ribs hurt.

Hahahah still no response that actually addressed the content what I said.

It's ok...I'm bored with this now. You should get your back checked after dodging so much...might have pinched a nerve ;)

  14. Steventionary Meaning:

Lisafied (verb) - to take someone's words out of context and twist them into their own meaning. To spin.

(Being the originator of this term, any attempt by anyone else besides Steven to trademark it is plagerism, although I'll keep it open for public use).

like termite on wood (phrase) - to vicariously take opposition to the point of ad nauseum.

(Often both phenomena seem to appear in juxtaposition)

 Maybe I should add these to my vocabulary, I only got a sack of it!
