  1. Hi, does the number of asterisk on an immigrant visa have any relevance or significance?

I found a post which mentioned that, the number of asterisk (*) on each visa determines how much of a risk the passport/visa holder is due to their nationality, sex, age, previous countries visited,etc...

Why would anyone be granted a VISA if the officer believes the applicant is a security threat?

Hi, I finally found out what the asterisks mean. They indicate the "RISK" status upon entry to the United States, which means that if you have more stars, then you will go through more security check when entering the United States. The number of stars are determined based on several reasons like: nationality, age, status, sex, countries visited before and others but as I mentioned before, it is only an indication. A lot of two stars have entered the states without any problem especially those who were joining families, but 2 star will probably be interviwed when reaching the states in case they were alone. Three stars means that security check will happen when arriving to the states but at the end, it depends on the immigrant officer.

This quite makes sense and a bit scary too!

It is normal. AP is anything and everything that they have to do before they can print your visa. Everybody thinks the officer just hits the “print” button on the computer and it’ll print like a receipt. The interviewing CO has to submit his findings and decision to his supervisor, if the supervisor agrees then the section chief has to review and sign off on it. If any of those guys is busy at some secret State training or on vacation or something, things are gonna get delayed. Then if the visa printer runs out of ink and they have to wait for another shipment of the secret sauce from Washington, so that’s another delay (I just made that up. I actually have no idea if that’s true or not, but it sounds good). Then they have to do quality control on the visa. They have to run it through the machine that CBP uses at the POE to make sure it reads right, and all the information is there, so you won’t have a problem at the port of entry. And every week, every Embassy or Consulate Post can issue thousands of visas, both immigrant and non-immigrant.

The point is, all of that together is called “Administrative Processing”

This cracked up. Was interesting reading

Mine too. Changed to issued yesterday.

Hi, was it long before (after your status changed to ISSUED) you were notified to pick up your passport from DHL?

Issued means visa is attached to the passport

how long it takes for Accra to delivery can not be determined / like did they mail it same day as issued or did it go out in the next day's mail

    we can't guess

    but congratulations

i know it has been a long struggle

Thanks! I am wondering if it would be worth going to the delivery center in person to find out (without receiving a notification yet)?

  6. Hi, is there anyone here who was interviewed in Accra, Ghana on 24th of September, 2019 and was approved and is still waiting for notification to pickup their passport from DHL, and still have their VISA tracker online status as Administrative Processing??

Does your status say “ISSUED” online?

My my wife was notified the next day after the interview that it was ready to pick up at DHL.

Then there are situations like this where people are in administrative processing for a while:

Hopefully yours will be ready to pick up soon!

Hi, thanks for responding. I am still in Administrative Process (per information on status tracker). I am hoping it won't be long
