As I recall the FBUs no longer process initial SS5 requests.   They do accept requests for duplicates which can be sent back to the FBU.

Oh, I see. Do you think it is possible to get a SSN in less than 2 weeks if I apply today or tmrw? Or should I just not try my luck?

Don't want to be the elephant in the room: But have you received your physical Greencard yet? That's what you really need to return to the US. I've read there have been delays with those, so just making sure.

I am not sure what the urgent need is to get a SSN while abroad, but since you applied for one all you can do is wait until you receive it. You can call and ask if it has been processed yet, but that's about it.

Hey, Yes I have received my green card. It's for University purposes (financial aid) and possibly a job. I called the nearby SS office and they said they haven't received my immigration information due like many who immigrated during Covid.

Do you realize SSA offices have been closed due to covid? Have you called in case they have remote staff working? I’m not sure why you are looking to obtain a SSN abroad when you are now a resident.

I literally just explained. They do have remote staff but I'm going to be flying in just before two weeks, and I need my SSN before flying back.

  4. Hey, so I've been in the US for 50 days now as a new LPR. Despite being here for two months now, I haven't received a SSN even though I applied for one.

I'm going to be back in Lebanon in like two weeks for a couple weeks - 1 month maximum. I'm going to need a SSN ready before I come back to the US. So I saw you can apply at FBU Italy for a social security number that you then obtain from the embassy in Lebanon. However, in the inquiry form (https://it.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/fbu/fbu-rome-inquiry-form/) they're asking for my SSN to apply for a new one -_-

https://it.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/fbu/faq/ On the FAQ section it says that you can apply for a SSN if you've never had one through the inquiry from. So I don't really understand what I should do. I'm scared of writing something like 0000 as the last 4 digits and then clarifiying what i mean in the remarks, cause it's probably illegal.

Did you click on the site to find out?  If you want  / need to exit the terminal you will need a visa.

You should apply for a Visitor in Transit visa if you arrive on a flight and will pass through immigration control before you leave the UK.

I did, and it means nothing.

    https://sterling-law.co.uk/en/uk-visa-enter-transit-uk/

UK GOV website also has the same list, but you have to go through a checklist there. The website you linked me recommends applying for a Transit Visa, but it isn't necessary.

I was checking to see if anyone has a similar situation as mine and if he was able to go through.

Hey, thanks for sharing. Yeah I hope to be getting to Boston airport. Only there's one more thing that I'm not sure of. Will I need a transit visa to connect flights overnight in Heathrow airport? My flight arrives to London at 18:30 May 22 and leaves the next day at 11:15 On may 23. My visa is an F4 immigrant one.

UK allows transit with an immigrant visa package but I think that’s fairly unusual, in most cases if you don’t have an actual green card or proof of existing permanent residence - and as stated above, just the immigrant visa is none of those things - you’ll need a visa.

Hey, I'm going to arrive to London at 18:30 May 22, and leave at 11:15 May 23 to Boston. I have an F4 immigrant visa. Will I be able to go to landside and connect flights overnight?

Your profile shows FB-4. Is that correct? This is for siblings of a US citizen.

If so, you are not considered an "immediate relative" in terms of US immigration. Immediate relatives get IR or CR visas, not FB visas.

The actual exceptions in the EOs list a child (unmarried, under-21) sibling as an exception, but not married or 21+ siblings. I'm not sure if this applies to you or not.

That fact sheet in the prior link says "immediate family" but the EOs define what that actually means:

    https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/03/16/2020-05578/suspension-of-entry-as-immigrants-and-nonimmigrants-of-certain-additional-persons-who-pose-a-risk-of

Yeah, we (my mom and my brother and I) received an F4 visa from my uncle, but my mom and brother already went to the US, so they're already permanent residents. I couldn't go because I was finishing my school year. So they are technically permanent residents. Only I'm not. Doesn't that mean I am allowed to enter? I called the CBP anyway and they told me I can enter, cause my mom is an LPR. I didn't tell them my visa is an F4 visa though.

    • American citizens, legal permanent residents, and their immediate families who are arriving from impacted area must travel through one of 13 airports where DHS has established enhanced entry screening capabilities.
    • All American citizens, legal permanent residents, and their immediate families who are returning from the impacted area must self-quarantine for 14 days after their arrival.

Yeah, I'm an immediate family member. I was asking whether it's true that they would refuse me entry.

The immigrant visa EO and the travel restrictions are two separate entities.......it is possible to be excluded from the visa executive order (EO), yet affected by the Covid-19 travel restrictions.......

    Not what I Meant.. https://www.dhs.gov/news/2020/03/17/fact-sheet-dhs-notice-arrival-restrictions-china-iran-and-certain-countries-europe

According to the DHS and the proclamation, the restrictions shouldn't apply to me...

  11. I called the CBP to make sure that I can enter the US.. I'm an immigrant visa holder who is an immediate relative of a US resident... He said that I shouldn't travel to the US through europe because I'll have to wait 14 days in another country. That's.. wrong, right? Shouldn't I be excluded according to Ban?

It’s very possible that different airlines have different prices.  Heck, I’ll bet every seat on the flight was purchased for a different price.  That being said, check and make sure that flight is reliable.

It is weird and I wouldnt book that flight.

While your experience has full trains, I can tell you that unless its a subway type system, most people drive vs take the train in the USA.  The train is probably the cheaper albeit longer option.

I'll be calling them tomorrow to find out more. Anyway, the airport in Beirut is confirmed to be opening on June 8, so I guess that's good news!

  13. Saw something weird. The plane that leaves from London to Boston (the $1500 one)  is operated by British airways in a codeshare agreement with Iberia and American Airlines. However, on the American Airlines website, the price is listed for $1500

    https://www.aa.com/booking/flights/choose-flights/flight1?bookingPathStateId=1589723757747-324

While on the Iberia Flight, the price is listed as $423 https://www.iberia.com/flights/?market=ES&language=en&appliesOMB=false&splitEndCity=false&initializedOMB=true&flexible=true&TRIP_TYPE=1&BEGIN_CITY_01=LHR&END_CITY_01=BOS&BEGIN_DAY_01=23&BEGIN_MONTH_01=202005&BEGIN_YEAR_01=2020&END_DAY_01=&END_MONTH_01=&END_YEAR_01=&FARE_TYPE=R&quadrigam=IBHMPA&ADT=1&CHD=0&INF=0&BNN=0&YTH=0&YCD=0&residentCode=&familianumerosa=&BV_UseBVCookie=no&boton=Search&bookingMarket=ES#!/availability

Could it be a mistake or do airlines genuinely differ in prices on the same flight? Cause that's very weird.

Then tell your brother to pick you up. He can rent a car if he doesn't have one. I'd do the same..

You must be a very intelligent 17 year old. You hold your conversation maturely and seem to know your way around. Kudos...When I was your age, I was in secondary school.  Knew nothing about immigration...

I looked really hard into immigration! Thanks :)

Unfortunately though, my brother doesn't have a drivers licence yet 😕 He's 21 but all he needs is in walking distance from his residence, so he hasn't found a need for a car yet

I'd think about it if it's the very last option. I'm a person who'll try and use those mileage on as many trips as I could and just not on one expensive trip of which there was an cheaper alternative....

Yeah, i'll be looking into it if it's inevitable.
