  1. my husband checked that box too and ended up having to go to the local office and get it mailed to him. We waited about a week to see if it was going to be mailed to us automatically but it wasn't. Took about a week to get it after we went to the office.
  2. Do you mind telling us what all he said regarding ROC? My husband wasn't verbally approved at the interview so our officer never told us anything about it.
  3. it took ours about two weeks to update. We got the interview notice two weeks later and it was a month after the interview notice was printed. So it said "ready to schedule" On December 14th, "interview scheduled" on December 26th, and then the interview was for January 30th.
  4. I couldn't help but notice you skipped over my replies showing where being in the United States is a requirement for adjustment of status. Why would they deport you to another country if you have to get a special document for you to leave the country while your AOS is pending? It logically doesn't make sense.
  5. because it's not. A benefit would be something like getting a driver's license, being able to work and file taxes, getting a social security number, being able to go to school. you can't do alot of that without the actual green card
  6. If You Need to Travel If you need to leave the United States temporarily while your Form I-485 is pending, please see the instructions for Form I-131, Application for Travel Document, for more information. Generally, if you have a pending Form I-485 and you leave the United States without an advance parole document, you will have abandoned your application. For further information, see our Travel Documents page. https://www.uscis.gov/greencard/while-application-is-pending you have to have special permission to leave the country while your application is pending. why would they deport you to another country then if your application is pending?
  7. Considering one of the requirements of applying for adjustment of status is that you are not allowed to leave the country, then you are allowed authorized stay. "Adjustment of status is the process that you can use to apply for lawful permanent resident status (also known as applying for a Green Card) when you are present in the United States. This means that you may get a Green Card without having to return to your home country to complete visa processing." https://www.uscis.gov/greencard/adjustment-of-status
  8. Just FYI: he ended up going to the social security office and talking to them and they're sending a card via mail. Should be here in 2 weeks.
  9. Thanks! We've been considering that but we wanted to make sure it wasn't going to come later and mess us up
  10. My husband just received his green card in the mail (K1 → AOS). When we applied, we checked the box saying we want to apply for a social security number for him. His EAD/AP card was not approved in time, so we never received it. I know that's when a lot of people get their social security card. When will he get his? Do we need to go over to the social security office or will they automatically send him once since we asked for it when we applied? Thanks!
  11. We live with my mom and everything is in her name. We don't have joint anything because everything in my town requires a SSN which he doesn't have. We just explained our situation and were still approved. As long as you look genuine, I don't think it'll be a problem.
  12. My husband ended up getting his green card before his EAD. We filed in September, got a RFIE in November, and had the interview in January. Approval a week ago.
  13. I got an RFE for sending in my joint sponsor's wrong birth certificate. I sent in what was approved for this K1 visa, but it wasn't what they wanted for AOS. And the income needed for AOS is not the same for K1. It's 125% of the poverty line compared to just 100% for the K1. So if you were cutting it close with the K1 visa, there's a chance you don't make enough for AOS.
  14. As I was telling someone how worried I was to not have a decision yet, I looked online and it said new card being produced! Anyone know generally how long it'll take for it to get here?
