  1. Hi

I am considering spending a year or 2 back in the UK due to family issues. I want to come back after that but my 2 year green card expires the exact month I plan to travel back.

Is it worth me applying for the removal of conditions and receiving my IR-1 green card or will it be void anyway if I leave the country for 1-2 years?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Hi

I wasn't sure of the rules their either, so i filled everything out in my married name and included a covering letter explaining the different names on all the info. Because I had also included my marriage license, I thought they'd manage to work it all out and they did.

I think they do go by whatever you fill in on the form. It's not very clear on the information they send out though.

Hope you get it all sorted.

    Good luck!

  3. Hi all

Well, I have received my AOS receipt dated 29th Feb so TECHNICALLY, I consider myself a March filer!!

BTW is anyone else having problems registering their receipt number on the USCIS "Case Status Online" system? I get an error message whenever I put the number in. Is it because the application was sent to a Field Office and not a Service Centre?

    Cheers

Hope all goes really well for everyone - GOOD LUCK!!!

  4. Congratulations! My boyfriend and I have been waiting quite a long time as well, and he's British. Based off the other timelines, I thought this would go much quicker. Was there anything that slowed you two down? Any advice?

    Hi,

I thought I'd replied to this but I couldn't see it anywhere so .....

I don't think anything slowed us particularly, 6-7 months does appear to be an average processing time via CSC. I did receive my visa 1 week late as I had to submit one additional piece of information re income.

Good luck to you, I hope you hear something soon. I understand how frustrating it can be.

    Best wishes

    JD :-)

  5. As a spoiler: it IS possible to serve Texan food (chili) as a curry--gravy made from Hunts tomato puree and McCormick's chili-seasoning!

(from experience--I brought a bean-and-vegetables chili to a church potluck with just such sauce, and was asked by several if I had Indianised it)

Oooh, I'm sure it is delicious because I also really like Mexican food (I'm really looking forward to proper Mexican cuisine and not what passes for it here in the UK!!)

BUT - a good curry cannot be replaced! There is just something amazingly gorgeous and satisfying about a saag or jalfrezi that cannot be substituted - and as for chana massala.... mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Anyway, I am definitely heading for the Woodlands when I arrive - anyone who wants to come along is most welcome - I will still miss the El halal in Aylesbury UK but this sounds like a great one as an alternative.

  6. I found a great indian place where my in-laws live. As for my Chinese food, i can't find good chinese food anywhere. At least, no like it is in england. I live on the central coat of california. :( no chinese fooooood

That's terrible - no crispy duck and pancakes? No chow mein? (mmmmm am now hungry for crispy duck and it's not even 10 am yet!!!)

My fiance tried the woodlands btw and he said it's GREAT.... so I am looking forward to trying it. Such a shame though that I will be leaving the best indian restaurant in all of Christendom! It really is soooo delicious and the only one I like going to. *sigh*

Hopefully, I will cope and not get serious withdrawal symptoms.

Good luck with your search for some decent chinese food though, that's a hard one because some chinese places are really nasty and it's such a gamble.

  7. A survey of six European countries found an increase in negative attitudes toward Jews.

    ...

Approximately half the Europeans surveyed said Jews are more loyal to Israel than to their own country, and more than a third said Jews have too much power in business and finance. A majority of respondents in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland said they believe American Jews control U.S. policy on the Middle East.

“More than a decade after the fall of communism, we hoped that such anti-Jewish attitudes would have begun to diminish rather than increase,” ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said.

On a positive note this also means an equal 50% DIDN'T share the negative attitudes doesn't it? You're a cup's half empty sort aren't you? Maybe you should consider a more effective avenue rather than itching for a fight on VJ. What good are you actually doing apart from not having to leave your seat?

  8. Hi

I know in the great scheme of things, where to get decent curry is the least of my problems - BUT - I am really going to miss the amazing curry restaurant in my current hometown. From what my fiance tells me, the food in the Nashville restaurants he has sampled don't compare in any way.

If anyone in Nashville (or nearby) knows of a good, authentic, Indian take away or restaurant please share your secret with me. I am learning to cook more dishes and already cook a fair few at home but sometimes it's just great to go to a good indian restaurant and have it all done properly.

    Thank you

  9. For some States, you can obtain a waiver explaining why you don't have a SSN. I'm not sure how you do that though.

You can also shop around and check if there are States around you where it's not required.

Unless you are planning something special with family, keep in mind that it's not required to get married in the State you live in.

Thanks for that, we are having family and friends from TX, seattle and UK so TN is as good a place as any ;-)

    I can't wait *eek*

    Thanks for all your help.

  10. Just go to the county office in your area and they will tell you exactly what you need. Like everyone else said your passport is all you will need.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone - you're all officially stars! :star:

I panicked a bit as I am marrying 1 week after I arrived and this was the first time I had seen this requirement.

    Thanks so much

  11. I was sure that the K-1 was a non-immigrant visa yet while at the consolate in Frankfurt yesterday for our interview appointment we were told otherwise. First while waiting in line outside a consolar employee came around making sure that everyone had their appointment letters and asking people if they where there for immigrant or non-immigrant visas. We replied non-immigrant but when he saw my fiance's letter he said ours was for an immigrant visa and to move to another line.

Once inside we were directed to a window labled "Immigrant".

So is a K-1 an immigrant visa??? If it is not then I don't understand why people at the US Consolate said otherwise.

    What gives?

Anyway our interview appointment was successful.... to those who will have an interview in Frankfurt, check out the full review of interview that I wrote up here.

I always thought the K1 was a non-immigrant visa because the AOS is the bit where you apply for permanent residency. As there is a condition to return home on a K1 unless you fulfil the criteria (get married), it's non-immigrant and has an expiry date.

That's my understanding anyhow. I suppose people who deal with them a lot know they mainly lead to immigration so maybe they just see it like that.

  12. HCFS.... grrrr.

As for Tesco... the burning issue is, will they sell Twiglets? That's what I want to know. I want Twiglets.

Not that there will be a Tesco here in Ohio 'til about 2048, I'm sure (if at all), but still...

    I remember Twiglets....such a distant memory now... :P

If I don't get hold of some soon, I might have to get some of those mini pretzel stick things and dip them in Marmite. I'm sure that will be, um, 'similar'.... (Actually, it's just today I want Twiglets, it's not as though I've spent the past two months pining for them, you understand! Proper bread, on the other hand... and curry... damn, I am missing those things!)

Ohhhh... please stop.... you are naming all the things I am going to miss like mad!! *sigh* :(

  13. I showed them my U.S. Passport and ofcourse when they were searching my luggage they found my Nigeria Passport and thats when they saw some old printed copy of resume (CV). So with a U.S. Passport I will still have to pray before getting into UK? Meanwhile I have been there before for like 2wks holiday.

Now my option is to get a visa. I'm thinking of getting "Holiday Working Visa" how easy that to get I dont know.

Oh, so you *were* planning to work on a tourist entry. Sounds like the UK border agent did his/her job.

Truthfully, I wasnt going there to seek any work. But since they have made a claim and I feel like I have no option than just get the working visa to be able to visit. I travel most times, I even have project in another country to go to in April or May, I have no intention to do any work in UK, I'm self employed. And by the way, I do have company I'm providing a service in UK already, that I work for from U.S. So the whole thing about working there or not was just so funny to me. Even from U.S. I'm already working with UK establishment.

I was just going to be with family in UK and they wont take it for truth and I dont know what else they want me to tell them. I realise that the working holiday visa thing is just something you hold just in case later you plan to work.

The job of immigration is to ensure you will return home and you will not work/stay illegally in the UK.

If you brought your C.V with you (why?) you will be suspected of one of the key areas they want to prevent. Try again and this time don't bring your C.V. Did you have a particular reason for bringing 2 passports and a CV? (not sure if it's a legal requirement or not)

US immigration would have taken the same steps I imagine were it the other way around. If you want to try and make this into a "hate crime" as you called it, rather than accept your mistakes in this matter (if you were going to try and work it is NOT LEGAL unless you have the correct visa, whoever you are) then it's up to you but I can't see where you have got this idea from.
