Has anyone gone through Sarnia when activating their visa? I'd love to hear how it went!

Emily congrats! so nice to read of your quick and easy interview in Montreal...
Did you drive from Toronto? or fly? We plan to drive when the time comes, if you drove did you get the directions from MapQuest? Once you were in Montreal was it easy to find your way around and to the hotel? My husband and I are notorious for getting lost..LOL
Kimmbo
We drove and it wasn't bad at all...I think it took us about 5 1/2 hours from Mississauga.
Mapquest TOTALLY sent us to the wrong place! I had printed out a general map of downtown Montreal so I was able to get us to the Hotel. I stayed at the Hyatt using Hotwire "4-star" option...it was $73/night USD and totally worth it. It was less than a 5 minute walk to the Consulate. I could give you directions if you want to both the Hyatt and the Consulate. Let me know!!

Hard to say if u can blame it on Canada post, Mtl may not mail the visa the next day, they may be just mailing visa's a few times a week.
Yes, this a good point, flames. Although my Visa was approved on the 19th (Monday), it actually says that it was issued on the 22nd (Thursday), so I'll bet it didn't go out until either Thursday or Friday which is why it didn't arrive until today. Had I remembered to write down the XpressPost tracking number, I would have had a much better weekend.
Man, am I gonna sleep well tonight!
I just checked my tracking number and it looks like they mailed it out Friday AM....I am anxiously waiting at home for the delivery!! I had my interview last Wednesday. If everything's OK with the visa I will be crossing at Detroit or Sarnia (probably Sarnia) this weekend! Wahoo!
Question: can the CBP guys at POE still deny you entry even though you have your K1? I am worried that they'll find a reason to send me back...I might just be scared still from all of the time's I've crossed and been interrogated!!

Is that $310.00 USD or Canadian the last I heard was $250.00 USD for the examination. Right now the $250.00 USD is $289.93 CAD
WOW you guys!! I paid $195 in Toronto...do you know why the rates differ depending on the office? Such a rip-off!

My parents just adopted her from the SPCA to go along with their 2 dogs and 2 other cats!!! 2 of the 3 cats are kittens (adopted at different times) they play and play.

Why are the exams in Vancouver so expensive?? I got mine done at the office on St.Clair/Yonge and it was only $195

I just got my K1 today and it should be in my posession by early next week. I want to move the weekend of March 30th. Can I cross the POE & activate the visa with my Fiance? Can I bring my belongings as well? Will the CBP have any issue with crossing with my Fiance or should I go on my own/with my parents instead? I've been turned away at the border before when I was in the car with my Fiance (didn't have documentation of ties with me!), but of course that was before I had my K1.
Thanks in advance for your advice- thanks!

Just to let you know, my visa was approved today (Jenash820) !!

Hi there,
So I had my K1 interview this morning and it went very well. I stayed at the Hyatt (booked through Hotwire) and it was a quick 5-minute walk to the Consulate. I arrived at about 7:45 and there was only 1 other person going through security. I didn't bring anything but my accordion folder, but I had a USB-key in it so they took it out and kept it. I went into a holding area until 8am and a security officer took us upstairs to the 19th. He walked me to Window 9 and I handed over my appointment letter. The lady then sent me to the waiting room to wait until my name was called. At 8:10 I was called to window 11 and I handed over all of my paperwork. Then I was sent to pay the cashier and was told to bring my receipt back to window 11. Once I did that I was told to go to the waiting room and wait for my name to be called. That was 8:20. At 9:15 my name was called to go to door 7. The interviewer was male, young, and very friendly. He had me hang up my jacket and he gave me my original BC back. He then took my fingerprints and had me say an Oath. Then he asked very simple and straightforward questions:
- How did we meet?
- How did he become a USC?
- How did we maintain the relationship?
- What do I do for a living?
- What do I plan on doing when I go there?
- What does he do for a living?
- He asked me to explain what my fiance does in his job
- What clients has he worked on?
- Does he like his job?
He then said the visa was approved and that I would have it within a week. He said I could not pick it up the next day when I told him I would still be in town. He said "you'll definitely get it, though." I was glad to hear the reassurance.
Overall it went well and everyone was nicer than I ever anticipated! I was back at the hotel by 9:40am.
one week? didnt they ask you to bring an Xpress canada post envelope? or is that just for spousal visas?
Oh yes, I brought the Xpresspost envelope, he just said I should receive it in the mail in about a week or so.

Hey Everyone,
I applied for a K1, and I sent in the DS-230 form to the Montreal Consulate immediately after receiving my packet. I was looking at the forms online and I saw that there is a DS-230 Part II....are we supposed to fill that out too?? I didn't see anything about it in any of the packets but I just want to be sure!
Thanks for responding!

Anyone else out there have an interview in Montreal tomorrow?? It would be so cool to meet a fellow VJ'ere and hopefully share in the joy of being granted the visa
Hi Amarceau,
My interview is on 3/21...Good luck! I would love to hear how things went though! If you think you will still be in Montreal in the evening, PM me and we can maybe arrange a call? I will get in around dinner time tomorrow.

Just tell them learning about US Immigration is a full time job!
Hahahahah, so true!!

At 1 time, u got the visa the same day in Mtl, then around the Spring of 2006, it was next day issue, and NOW they mail it out to you in a express post envelope that u provide. For the most part, they appear to be getting them in the mail the next day, so it takes 2 or 3 BUSINESS days to arrive at ur doorstep!!
i wanted to be back by easter, i miss his family's holiday get-togethers :/
i figured our interview will be thursday the 5th, i'd come back friday the 6th, but if they'll MAYBE just SEND it out on friday, i have to wait till AFTER the weekend.
i still havent received my final packet, so i'm sure when i get it my next question will be answered, but i'm so eager to get things done -- does the envelope have to be canada post? certain size? what if we want to go through overnight UPS, heh. or even UPS canada?
then i could still get it saturday and come back same day?
They require you to get an Xpresspost Regional (if you live in QC or ON) or National (anywhere else in Canada) pre-paid envelope measuring 314mm x 394mm. I just got it this morning at Shoppers Drug Mart and it costs $10 + $1.50 for signature sticker. Be sure to take the receipt with the tracking number on it so that you can see whether it has been mailed!

That is correct.. it's first come first served... the appointment time means absolutely nothing... get there about 30 minutes before they open..
BTW.. we also went from Windsor to Montreal... Do not fly out of Windsor .. period... Drive to Detroit or Toronto and take a flight from there... We flew from Toronto to Montreal for under $400...
haha, well i wish i could just go to detroit and fly, but i have a complicated case. as for driving to toronto, where would we park our car? i found really cheap westjet tickets between toronto and montreal. i thought maybe just take a train to london, then fly london to montreal, but unless we stop in tornoto first, we wont save much with a direct flight. and even if we do strop in toronto, we'd save like a hundred dollars (which isnt much since windsor to montreal is 1500 ish)
i keep trying to find deals or something different, but air canada website is cheaper than all "discounted" flights websites.
my husband also doesnt want to drive or make so many stops cause then there're more things that could get delayed, traffic, etc.
egh
I would say that driving would be more of a sure thing than flying!! I've had so many delays and cancellations in the past that I don't trust travelling by air if I am on a time crunch. I am leaving tomorrow morning from Toronto and driving to Montreal with my mom....hopefully we get there in decent time!

what time do they open the door ?
Im at 8h30 as well. Arrive at 7h30 ? 8h00 ?
confused
I'm at 9....I'd love to know when doors open so that I can be there early too.

Best of luck!! As a Cdn, U could be living on the streets, they dont care, lol.
Thanks guys! I am just finalizing everything (Xpresspost envelope, a million copies of everything, etc...). I hope I have everything I need.
I will be sure to post a synopsis of how it went on Thursday or Friday.
Wish me luck

If you are the visa recipient (i.e. the Canadian) it won't matter a bit. What they care about is if the USC has the required financial assets/income to ensure you won't be on means-tested benefits (social assistance) when you move to the US.
I wasn't working at the time of my visa interview either. They didn't ask me for any information about my working life.
Oh that's great news, thank you. I just filled out the DS-156 and it asked my occupation and present employer, so I got scared! My Fiance has more than enough support on his I-134 so we should be fine.
Thanks!

Hi Everyone!
Only 2 more days until my interview and I am second-guessing myself on everything. It's too late to do anything about this, but I want to ease my mind a bit:
When I originally applied for the K1, I read that processing time was 3 -4 months. I didn't understand the full process (i.e. sending final processing to Montreal), so I went by that time frame and resigned from my Corporate Marketing Position 4 months after I applied for the K1. Of course, I just now received an interview date 12 months after initially filing the K1. Will it harm me in the interview that I am not working right now? I have been volunteering at a couple of places and also my grandmothers have had broken hips, etc, where I've needed to care for them. It was too uncertain for me to find another job because I didn't want to get hired then quit soon after due to getting the K1.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks!

That will certainly work.
You may want to consider "business-casual" meaning comfy-but-sharp slacks, blouse, shoes (does NOT include jeans, trainers, sandals, ...)
Thanks guys, business casual is what I was going for...office attire....etc. Sounds like I am A-OK!
