  1. Okay... I got my AP and welcoming letter on the 4th.

Today I checked my case online and now it says....

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

    Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On February 6, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

    What does this mean?

    • Yes, you can drive your Maryland-plated car into Canada. I have driven my Florida-plated car in 3 or 4 times. Make sure you bring the registration and proof of out-of-country insurance.
    • All you need is your greencard. Failing that, your AP document. I always carry my passport (in my former name) and my marriage certificate. Never been asked for them, but I carry them. You will need your passport, however, if you only have your AP. My AP was issued in the name that matched my passport.... even though I applied for it with my married name.
    Have a great trip!

Thanks Krikit! (Love your LOL cat)

Is it okay that the car is in my husbands name?

  2. I have my AP now, should have my GC before I go - like to hear about both senarios. I'm a Canadian (w/AP / GC)

Can I drive a MD plated car into Canada?

What paperwork do I need to bring?

My passport is in my maiden name, do I need to just bring my marriage certificate?

    GC/AP are in married name.

Just want to make sure all my bases are covered before I try to return to the frozen tundra to visit the folks. THANKS!!

(I posted this over in the Canadian forum as well)

  4. I received my welcoming letter today - YEAH! But in another envelope I got my Advanced Parole ... hmmm... I did put in for AP when I sent everything in, but they returned my check - can't remember what it said. I put in a seperate check (aside from the $1000 and whatever for the AOS) for $300 for the AP... is it included with AOS? I'm so confused.... :)

The AOS fee of 1010 includes AP, so there was no need for a separate check, probably why they returned the separate check to you. What welcome letter are you referring to? For the GC? Have you had your interview, or was your case transfered and approved w/out interview.

    -P

Ahhhhh... it all makes sense now.

The welcome letter was for the GC - I was transferred to CSC, no interview. :)
