NOA2 expiration date is dead. You have no concern once you interview. Before the interview there is a concern after no.

Thank you that is very comforting to know. I read things about cases getting sent back to USCIS after interview and then people having to reapply once their NOA2 date was reached. Not sure if that’s a possibility thank you for clarifying

Cairo by experience hates to be bothered with Emails, I found a few that got out from under a DS5535 in a few months to so that has taken 18 months it is a black hole, I only advise contacting them after 90 days have passed and there has been no progress.

constant emails reflects desperation to Cairo, this will cause them to look deeper.

Well everyone should be desperate to have their lives move forward I think that’s a terrible approach and transparency should be honored for anyone undergoing AP we all have a right to know what’s going on. But I know the system is horrible so I’m not surprised

you wait it out, do not be in a rush to contact the embassy I have discovered this can work against you. just be paitent

Ya I almost wonder if my initial email to them is what prompted their sending the questionnaire in the first place since they never mentioned it at interview or after only when I emailed asking why my status wasn’t updated post interview

    Unfortunately Yes

Omg that’s so terrible I’m so sorry,  have you done anything to inquire about what’s going on? Is this a cr1 or K1 fiancé visa?

Ds 5535 was created in 2017 for additional security checks

it investigates all social media , travel (although you say there isn't any , it still asks),  all phone numbers the bene can use,  and siblings

you will be lucky if the case stays in Cairo and the process is done there

but the case can be returned and DHS does the legwork

Several Moroccans are getting hit with this form including women

and there is a special site here under the portal for people going thru this/ look under "other topics"

normal  processing time is a year but one went thru in a month

Derik (USC ) and his Moroccan wife have been in AP since December interview along with many others

you will ask should he ask for his passport back?   Not unless you want to go thru additional screening

We don’t need the passport back for anything other than him coming here. How can I get updates during this time of AP?

  6. Hi everyone,

I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this or has any feedback. My fiancé interviewed at the Cairo embassy on April 24th 2019, his interview went very well and the CO immediately told him he was approved and took his passport. He told him to wait for the visa return. Never asked for any additional documents never mention administrative processing or anything else. We waited a week post interviews and then I emailed them asking why our status never updated post interview it still says ready. They replied back to please fill out a questionnaire and send it back (ds5335) Although it does not have any title on it. I filled it out and sent it back. Now our case status is in AP and I’m not sure what to do. A part of me thought knowing the chaos that is Egypt whoever replied didn’t even look my case up and send me a generic form but at the same time maybe it’s real and there is a problem. My fiancé has never been married before never travelled outside of Egypt and has never had a different address even. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Why did they approve him verbally and take his passport with no request for any additional evidence just to put him in AP?

My husband had his interview last June in Cairo. Interview went good, CO was really nice and said all papers were complete. Then told him to complete the supplementary questionnaire (DS5535) and said it’ll take weeks or months for a decision. His Case has been on AP since. But I’ve read a bunch of people on VJ have been to interviews at Cairo and Got approves on the interview day lately. Best of Luck! And I pray he doesn’t get stuck in AP too. Just be prepared for anything.

You’ve been in AP since last June? For almost one year?

4- how long and how many times she visit u ?

    Many things actually

Anyone know more about this form? I received  it via email after a successful interview for my fiancé. The CO approved him verbally and kept his passport but now I got an email after inquiring about our case with supplemental questions. Any ideas??

The AP people normally get excited for is the Non-Immigrant AP. So your case will turn from Immigrant to Non immigrant then from ready to AP to Issued. When people see non immigrant AP then it means they are in process of printing the Visa etc and they will most likely see Issued soon. In this case I assume the AP you're experiencing is due to them verifying the supplemental questions. Theres no timeline on when they finish completing that but I can try to locate that person that went through that in Beirut and see if theirs has completed. They had their interview 2/20. Or if you search in your regional subforum you may find others also in the same situation that can shed some light.

If you can easily find that person I’d really appreciate it. I’ll also check.

AP is a term that is used for a case that is waiting on any number of things. It could be a RFE, it could be a 221(g) after the interview, it could be for the time that your passport is processing to receive the visa in. Most times, it's a good thing and nothing to worry about. There are so many times that it can be used that it would take a long time for anyone of us explains all the different cases that AP shows up.

I’m just trying to interpret my own situation in light of all the clues I have. Interview went well CO said visa is approved and to just wait for the passport return. Ceac status is now AP. Passport status used to say still at consulate and now it says. I have no idea what’s going on at this point.

    Passport Status :
There is no status update available for the passport number submitted

No it was not asked of us, we were already approved and they have my husband's passport and our case status doesnt say were in AP (though it seems we are). It still says ready.

The reason I ask is because I emailed them last week asking why my case status still says ready and they replied by asking me to fill out this “supplemental questions” form that looks a lot like the questions from the ds form. We were also approved verbally and the embassy has his passport so idk why it would go to AP and if it did why would they not notify us. They’re so disorganized. I hope everything gets resolved

I don't think anyone really knows for sure perhaps after a final review something comes up they want to look into.  The CO at the time could have been unaware or missed it.   Or someone ahead of the CO made the decision to do a little more Administrative Processing before issuing the visa.   It you read back through there are a few that were told their visas were approved and sometime later they get the dreaded email.   Until the visa is in hand there are no gaurentees.

Is it weird that I only got that email after inquiring about my ceac case status?

  13. Hi everyone,

my fiancé had his interview for k1 visa on April 24th and was approved but when I emailed the Cairo embassy after the interview to ask about why my ceac case status still says ready they sent me a word document to fill out that apparently is this ds form, I’m really not sure if the person replying sent a generic form and had no idea what my case was or if there is a true issue with my case. In your experiences with this ds form are people receiving  this form even after embassy approval at the interview and the embassy keeping the passport?

    Compare it with https://www.nafsa.org/_/File/_/amresource/DS5535.pdf

The first part looks about the same. Unfortunately, that might be bad news, as based on my understanding this form is part of current administration "extreme vetting" for Middle East and North Africa countries which leads to indeterminate results. Hopefully it will work out for you sooner rather than later.

I pray this isn’t the case my fiancé has never lived or travelled outside of Egypt never been married before has no children, it’s all relatively straight forward. I don’t understand why they would request this when the interview went well and they kept his passport? Would they return it back to him then?
