  1. My wife went to the passport office in Mumbai and all she was asked to do is fill out a form for the clearance cert from them. They didn't ask her for an appointment letter.

For the local police clearance certificate she was just asked to fill a form and pay a demand draft of Rs. 100. They didn't ask her for the appointment letter here either...

    Hello VJ patient ones.

If you're interested in India information, I just found something out from my wife (who is far far away from me in India). We tried to speed up the process a bit by getting the police certificate done ahead of time. Chennai will be sending her the interview letter shortly, but haven't yet. Just so you know - they need to see the letter from the consulate asking for the interview in order to issue a police certificate.

Hopefully this will save you from wasting the time running around trying to get the police cert. Good luck!

I want to "second" that. My wife also in India (and far away from me :crying: ) has her interview scheduled for May 24th. We ended up waiting for the interview letter before she went to get the cleareance certificates. When she did go, they asked her for the interview letter. This was the case for both the local police cleareance and the passport cleareance as well.

  2. I always assumed that it was a name that came down from the British Raj... just like 'Calcutta' and 'Bombay'.

Pardon me, and I hope the OP has found the information he/she was seeking.

I just wanted to comment on this name "Breach Candy", which strikes me as one of the oddest, apparently-English place names I have ever seen. Does anyone know the origin of this name? Is it actually a Hindi name that just looks English?

This thread is the second place I have seen it in a matter of days, after not having seen it my whole life before now. I am reading Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry and it is in there, too.

Thanks for any insight anyone has. Hope no one minds me borrowing this thread to ask...

  3. That's awesome devblt.... looks like being meticulous has really paid off! Good luck at the interview!

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to give you a quick update. If you remember last week, I posted to let you know that my wife got her interview date for May 4th, but that date conflicted with her exams.

I had sent two e-mails to the mumbai consulate to reschedule the appointment. Today, we received an e-mail from the consulate stating that the interview has been rescheduled for May 24th!

Seems like a huge weight has been lifted of our shoulders!

Thanks again for all your support guys!

  4. Hey Gupt! do you work for google? Can you get me a job? Lol! Just playing...

Please try using google. I did so and found a great article on precisely the topic you're looking for. I will not post it here as I'd like to see people using search more.

Go to www.google.com and type the following into the search box:

    "breach candy" site:visajourney.com

Please type it exactly as typed above, with the quotes. The quote marks will ensure that your search looks for the entire phrase "breach candy". The site:visajourney.com will ensure that the search is limited to the visajourney.com site.

  5. Congratulations both of you!!! Awesome news....

And now life changes again for you :)

    Love to you both,

Anyhoots YEA! And OMG I have to rearrange my studio apartment to fit him too! :o:P:luv:

    Will write details afterwards!

    Thanks again all!

  6. Given the tremendous backlog of applications and the fact that they have dedicated staff working on petitions with no 'summer break' like educational institutions, I don't think that's true.....

Don't worry neel06... your petition will be approved soon at the CSC :)

    Good Luck!

    /UM

Hello friends. Today someone told me that immigration offices put the petitions on a hold for the summer time. is this true? i have hard time believing thiss..but u never know. i hope this is false information.
  7. Hmm... why Fiji? All I know about that place is that there are more Indians in Fiji than in New Jersey! I think recently there was a big cryout about an Indian-origin fellow being elected as Prime Minister.....

I'm guessing that some parts of it are really nice given it's an island in a tropical zone, right?

I'd do anything for us to go to Fiji.
  8. I basically got a letter from my bank stating in total how much money I have with them combining all my accounts. I have such a letter from December 2006 and another that I got in March 2007 which will show a consistent balance. You might also want to have some recent bank statements.

You need to get the I-134 notarized. Looks like the closest local USCIS office to you would be Memphis. I'm not sure if you could use a general state notary (such as the people authorized at Kinko's) to do this for you... can someone else chime in on this?

The bank will be giving you the letter on their letter head with original signatures and bank stamp. No need to get this notarized, but instead ask them to provide you with 2-3 original copies.

    Best,

    /UM

can you please tell me what sort of bank letters are you gathering? what is it supposed to be about?

Also, how are you getting your documents notarized? mean are you sending it in to be notarized or going in person?

I am in Nashville, TN and not sure where will go to get my documents notarized. Also, what documents are you getting notarized? i know i need to get i-134 and i-824 notarized but do i need to get my bank letters or anything else notarized?

    thanks

    and good luck

  9. Thanks novotul. This clarifies a lot. So basically all I need to do now is ship her all the documentation and proof I've been gathering. We had an elaborate wedding, so there is no dearth of photographs :).. tons of emails, parcel receipts, my flight boarding passes, etc. for proof so I think we're good.

I'm also thinking of writing a really racy email  to her and providing that among the proofs just to have some fun :)... I wonder if those officers would turn red with embarassment! lol!

Thanks and good luck to you as well!!

The K3 process is quite a different process than the CR-1. With the K3, your wife will get a multientry, nonimmigrant visa without work privileges. After she arrives in the USA, you will probably apply to adjust her status to permanent residency.

(There is another path to permanent residency, but it appears more complicated and, probably, more expensive, that involves getting the CR-1 issued after she enters on the K3. If you go to that path, your wife would need to return to India for the CR-1 interview. Not many people take that route.)

Your case will go to NVC and should be there just a few days before being forwarded on to Mumbai. The NVC essentially gets approved petitions and sits on them until they come up in a priority queue set by the immigration laws. Since the beneficiary is your wife, and since the approved petition is a I-129F, she has immediate priority and NVC will send the documents on to Mumbai. (For the CR-1, you provide documents to NVC that are similar in function to those you will provide USCIS when you apply to adjust her status for permanent residency.)

Details of documentation requirements for K3 interviews vary from diplomatic post to post. In Moscow, for instance, they want to see 3 years of tax returns, not one. Some posts require a support statement different from the I-134. The number I-824 comes to mind, but I haven't checked -- so I could be wrong. I am writing this before Sunday morning coffee -- always a risk :)

For the K3 interview, because the financial documents that you are already gathering, it can be a good idea to make sure that your wife has other evidence thatt yours is a continuing, bona fide relationship. Have you been able to see her since you filed? Photos would be great. Copies of selected emails would be very good. You may black out personal sections of email that you don't want the govt to read. Do you send her parcels? Maybe copies of tracking documents and shipping receipts would be good. (My wife will be getting plenty of those.) Wedding photos might be a good idea, if you have them. You probably get the idea.

Congratulations. Good luck. Read a lot, over document your case, and relax!

  10. Hi VJ,

Thanks to everyone who has helped us get through this stage! All your help and advice kept us on the right track and clear-cut documentation. Looks like it paid off as we got our approval from the CSC in 28 days after NOA1!

Over the past couple weeks I've gathered documentation, namely,

    - bank letters

    - employment letter

    - tax transcripts + my 2006 tax return copy

    - filled up the I-134 and will get it notarized this week by USCIS

My wife has put in the applications necessary for getting the police clearance certificate and medical records in India.

Now that the case will go to the NVC, are there any more forms I should be filling/signing and sending to my spouse or NVC with the copies of the K3 and CR1 application?

I just read on another thread that the DS230 Part 1 needs to be sent to NVC for CR1. Does this apply to K3 as well? http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;#entry839060

    Thanks,

    /UM

  11. We're pursuing the K3 visa through the Mumbai consulate. I've heard from Yodrak that normally we would need to fill DS230 Part 1, and additionally Part 2 for certain embassies.

So does this change of submitting the forms to embassy Vs. NVC affect K3? Our K3 visa just got approved at the CSC. Do I need to be doing something related to these forms?

    Thanks,

    /UM

  12. Thanks for the clarification pushbrk... this makes sense...

    Thanks Yodrak.

    /UM,

Same as the disadvantage of applying for EA before AOS for a K1 - the EA is valid for the duration of the allowed stay in the USA as indicated on the I-94.

    Yodrak

    Yodrak,

Can you explain further what is the benefit of applying for Employment Auth before AOS for a K3?

    .....

    Thanks!

    /UM

The answer seems a bit cryptic. A K3 can apply for EAD at the same time as AOS or do so before. EAD approval takes about three months, where AOS often takes longer, sometimes much longer. Some, like me, choose to delay filing AOS for various reasons but file EAD ASAP for various reasons. The EAD will be valid until the I-551 expires, two years after the date of first entry. If there is not hurry to go to work, you can do without EAD altogether and just wait for the green card.

  13. Yodrak,

Can you explain further what is the benefit of applying for Employment Auth before AOS for a K3?

Also, could you explain the meaning of 'Yodrak'? :) Just curious!

    Thanks!

    /UM

    moody,

Rush or not rush, the reasons for doing either will vary from couple to couple.

There is a benefit to a K3 applying for EA before they apply for AOS - what's a waste for K1s is a bonus for K3s.

    Yodrak

So there is no rush to do AOs once my husband is here? Is it true that we can file for the EAD, wait for it to be approved, then file AOS?

  14. Nice! We had our honeymoon in Kerala, India (See my album on VJ for some pics).

But after so many months of separation, it might actually warrant a "second" honeymoon... if I can find a way to fund it, lol!

At first we didn't want to go on a honeymoon (our "real" honeymoon consisted of 2 nights in a hotel), but then my husband's best friend decided to get married on Kauai, in November.

He asked my husband to perform the ceremony- so there. We HAVE to go. :)

Since we're going anyway, we decided to add a couple of days and make it something like a honeymoon, we'll be on Kauai for 5 nights and on Oahu's north shore for another 4.

  15. Thanks Yodrak. Does anybody know what's the deal for the Mumbai consulate with these forms?

    Best,

    /UM

    /UM,

Most, if not all, consulates will want DS-230-I. And a few may also want DS-230-II. Even though the K visas are non-immigrant visas.

    Yodrak

Haaha! Thank you! My wife's name is Manali, so at our wedding my uncle comes up to us and goes - "Well, if she's Manali, you must be... Ullu?"

I do hope that people around my submit date see a speedy approval from CSC as well. You can't imagine how happy I am after trying to convince myself that I can make it through CSC's advertised long wait-times! Was an awesome surprise :)

Best Wishes to you two as well!

    /UM
