I'm just curious to know if anyone else read the USA TODAY article on people sueing USCIS because of the long delay for citizenship? (...) Does anyone know of people sueing for the long delays to get conditions removed?

I want my conditions removed, but I would agree that the citizenship application should receive absolute priority before a reasonable date before the general elections. To delay those applications smells like voter disenfranchisment.

I see a lot of threads about starting a law suit. I'm just curious what the basis of it would be. Did the USCIS guarantee when (and if) an application would be processed? We can't really sue them for taking their sweet time. Can we?
I just feel that even if a hundred of us went up against the USCIS, we would waste years in court and have nothing to show for it other than huge legal bills.

The main criticism of the USCIS seems to be that the USCIS has officially a first-come-first served policy, but that later applications from the second half of 2007with the higher fee were processed long before many applications from the first half of 2007 have even been touched. (If the USCIS had expedited applications, this would be expected, because you could choose your timeline with your price.)

It has been argued that I-751 applicants are in a comfortable position, because they can work and travel. Others have commented that the delayed card means difficulties in getting or keeping some jobs, delays in travelling, and generally an uncertainty about your future. I doubt that anything useful would come out of a lawsuits by I-751 applicants, and I would probably not participate, but I wouldn't advice anyone against it either.

Hello,
I just joined the marines, they accepted me with the extention letter. Can I apply for citizenship or will I have to wait for the I751 to be approved, it is taking forever with nebraska center and there is exceptions to citizenship with military personal. I mean while I 751 is pending what is my status ? AM i a lawfull permanent resident on conditionnal status or am i just lawfull permanent resident? Please help!

Yes, a permanent resident with a condition can apply for citizenship while the I-751 is pending. If there are any exceptions for military personal, I would except them to be to your favour, so go for it and submit your N-400 when you can.

Your status has been and remains the one of a "permanent resident", until the USCIS adjucates your case, because you filed your I-751 on time.

i believe we should add a green card recieved colum also after approval bec i haven't recived one yet but did got approved on dec 20 2007

Congratulations! Having waited since April 2006, I thought you might wait over the two years, needing THREE extensions of the written proof of your status as permanent resident. Good that you didn't need it. By the way, did you get your second extension and, if yes, what was your experience? I ask, because I am one month before asking for it myself. Did you just visit the local office for a I-551 stamp and got it?

I disagree, however, with adding another column about receving the card UNLESS there has been more than one case, for which the time between approval and receiving the card was "unnatural" long, like over 45 days. That would indicate another screw-up inside the USCIS, but so far I haven't heard of any examples.
