  1. Had my Oath Ceremony in Chicago on Thursday Sept 22. They allowed one adult guest per person. I wasn't sure if the limitations and brought two extra people to the ceremony and they allowed them to come into the room after they realized that there are still available seats. Everyone was in great spirits and the officers were super friendly. The judge said a few wholesome words before the ceremony and then after we all recited the oath, we received our certificates. They didn't allow photos in the courtroom but we were directed to the museum on a different floor and that's where everyone took pictures.

So relieved that my immigration journey is finally complete, and best of luck to everyone still waiting 💕

  2. Thank you forv sharing this!

I was supposed to have my oath ceremony today in Chicago but I received a call at 8:30 am where I was told that due to operational issues with the court they have to cancel my ceremony today and reschedule me for September 22.

I received a notification in myUSCIS portal this afternoon that the ceremony was de scheduled and that they'll mail me a letter with my next steps.

No updated letter with my new date was uploaded...

Super confused as I don't have any arrests or any other issues with the court other than my divorce that got finalized a few years ago and I applied on the 5 year basis.

    Hopefully we'll get naturalized soon!!

  3. Had my N-400 interview (5 year rule) yesterday morning at the Chicago field office. The officer had technical issues accessing my file and had to call the supervisor to restart their system, which resulted in me being sent back to the waiting area and sitting there for an extra hour. However, they successfully restarted the system and I was called back in.

The officer was super nice, shared some personal stories and we laughed together about some random stuff before the actual interview began 😊

The interview itself was super straightforward, 6 civics questions, reading a super basic sentence ("Who can vote?") and writing the answer ("citizens can vote") on a tablet. Then we went over the eligibility questions from the application, ensured my small periods of unemployment had correct home address associated with them, and then he printed out the letter that said, Congratulations, your case is recommended for approval. The officer shared that they are working through a serious backlog right now but are trying to schedule oaths as soon as possible, and that I should receive a letter with a date within 2-4 weeks, but he thinks it's closer to 2.

Later that night my status online changed to Oath Ceremony will be scheduled.

All in all, surprisingly smooth and pleasant experience at the USCIS office in Chicago.

Best of luck to everyone!! We're so close!!

Please I would really appreciate if you guys can tell me how to prepare, what version of USCIS Civic test should I use and what platform I can use to learn the US History, Constitution ETC.

    Thank you.

I'm preparing using the 2008 version of the test as they reverted back to it last year thankfully. There is an official list on the USCIS website and a free app I downloaded to practice with flashcards.

  5. Woohooo so excited for folks who are getting their appointments or case updates already!

Curious if anyone from Chicago has heard anything? I applied on January 27 and the USCIS website estimates 9 months waiting as of today. Haven't heard any updates other than reusing my old biometrics that was automatically issued the day I applied.

Applying on the 5 year rule, but curious to hear from any and all Illinois filers!

  6. Hi friends! I submitted my application on January 26 (5 year rule, but I'm applying after 7 years) and the day I submitted the biometrics reuse notice was issued. The portal originally said estimated wait time is 14 months, but today it says 11 which gives me hope. Fingers crossed that all our cases move smoothly and quickly!!
    I'm applying in Chicago.

    Congrats!!!

Did you ever received this notification? . I am getting this  every 15 days.

We are still reviewing your case and there are no updates at this time

We will notify you when your case status changes. We last took action on your case on October 4, 2018.

Yep, they send these every other week after they do something with your case if you signed up for online notifications for your case.
I started receiving them after my case got transferred to Texas. They also send you those after they take actions on your case, but take those with the grain of salt. I received two in one day, and they were contradictory (one for RFE and one for Card being produced).
    Hope this helps!

I called the 1-800 number and found out that my case was transferred. The status is different when you check https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do (and https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/   they are all different.

Which status is more up to date?

Mine got updated on https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do first, and in my account on https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov the next morning.

Question, with an RFE, are you supposed to sent original documents or copies? I will be sending my son’s birth cert, but not sure if I should send the original or a copy. Thanks

Might be my Russian background, but I would not want to ever send originals to anyone. From what I know, USCIS does not return any original documents to you, so def would send a copy of the birth certificate.
Might be a good idea to stop by your nearest UPS to certify the copy with the notary public.

    Thought I would share this...

I made an info-pass appointment at the Chicago office about two weeks ago. When I went up to the window to register the officer handling the registrations asked me why I'm here...so I let him know that I was hoping to get the I-551 stamp in my passport. He told me that I will not get it and that he is not forwarding my registration - thus, my appointment and day off work was for nothing. I asked why and the only answer I got was that I have to come back within 1 week of my extension letter expiring...

This officer sounds quite petty... I got my I-551 stamp well over a month before my letter expired, I did explain that I was about to travel for work right around the expiration date of my 12-month letter and they asked if I am sure I don't want to wait til I'm closer to the expiration date. I said I don't because I want to make sure I have no trouble re-entering the US after the trip, and they stamped my passport without further questions. This was also in Chicago, but back in July.
Sorry you had to waste your time going to the field office  :( Maybe it depends on the officer? Unless they changed the rules about when one can request their I-551...

On a good note, I received my i797 in the mail! So thank G-d out of the two contradicting statuses I got on https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/ (one for RFE, one for Card being produced) the correct one was about the card produced and then Case approved! I'm a CSC filer transferred to TSC on 10/10.

    Good luck to everyone! ❤️

Anyone who got transferred to Texas on 10/10/18 with any updates here?

I had mine transferred to Texas on Oct 10th, then had two (conflicting) messages that they sent me an RFE and that they ordered the production of my new card on November 10th, and the status changed to "Case was approved" yesterday.
I also contacted the lawyer who was supporting our AOS case 3 years ago, and she said sometimes status notifications are incorrect and that I should just wait and see what comes in the mail. So far nothing in the mail though.
    I'm WAC17317.

  12. Hi folks,

First of all, thank you all for this thread, it has been such a helpful resource while waiting for any movement on my case!..

I had quite a rollercoaster day yesterday as last night, when checking egov.uscis.gov my status said "Your New Card is being produced". This morning I received two (?) notifications from my.uscis.gov that they took action on my case, logged in and saw the following. Has anyone seen anything similar by chance? I mean, if they requested additional evidence from me, what is the "New Card Being Produced" about?.. The Egov site still shows the top message, about the card being produced.
    Haalp?..

Also Niv, yeah, I had trouble accessing both their websites late last night, too, but it seems to be back up this morning.
