Ability to support is determined by CURRENT income.....not past tax returns......by the time you need the evidence, you will be working and able to provide pay stubs, etc.  Worst case scenario is that you might need a joint sponsor.......no need to wait until you have been working for a year, unless you want to.

N.Amrani got a reaction from Carole Joëlle in K1 VISA (USA/JAMAICA)- Graduating in December- Help Please
Greetings! I am new here, but I've heard helpful things about this site, so I'm here for a bit of guidance before starting this process.

My background: I am a 24 year old living in Florida, and my boyfriend is also in his 20's, living in Jamaica. We met while I was there volunteering a year ago, and we want to start a life together. Our plan is to get engaged when I visit again this January.  I am in my final teaching internship, and I am graduating as an elementary school teacher this December. I will be eligible to work in the school system starting in December making a teachers salary. I have always worked odd jobs to get myself through college, but I've been unemployed for the past 15 weeks due to my full time final internship. Starting in the new year, I will be making  enough income to support myself and my fiance during the process.

My question: Will we be able to successfully navigate this process with me being a recent graduate? I've read that at one point in the process I will have to provide tax statements for the past year or so to prove ability to support. Clearly, I won't have the required income for this tax year as of yet, although I'll be making enough having just graduated. Does this mean we have to wait an entire year of me working in the field before we begin the process? Of course, that isn't what we want to do. What are our options? If anyone can offer any advice or guidance as I begin this journey, I would be grateful.

    Blessings!!!
