My interview letter was also addressed to me but C/O my mothers name. Which was really odd i thought too but it's whatever. My appointment recently was at 8am and apparently also doesn't open until 8am but we got there at 7:15 to avoid traffic and there was also a number of people already inside and going in ahead of 8am so they may schedule interviews earlier than opening time, best bet is to just follow what others have said and show up at the time and if they say why are you here so early then you have it in black and white stating you're supposed to be there at that time and it's their error.

    Good luck!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I really do appreciate it. I'll definitely get there early. I'm just really hoping that this isn't some sort of mistake as there always seems to be something that goes wrong with Los Angeles offices, based on my experiences.

My interview at the embassy in Jamaica (same time zone) was scheduled for 7am.  I thought that was really weird but there we were and had our interview.  As the others mentioned, I would go as scheduled!  Good luck!!!

Thank you! Glad you had a pretty smooth process! I'll definitely be there by 6:30 am. Did your interview start right at 7 am?

I have seen a couple of cases like that here on VJ. Turned out they take scheduled appointment even if the office isn't  open to "the public" until 8am. So apparently there's a difference if you actually have an interview appointment and if you're just "stopping by" for other reasons.

Thank you so much for the information, Scandi. I can't find too many cases regarding early appointment times, but I'll have to dig deeper. I really doubt an employee will interview me and my wife at 6:45 am, but we'll see. I'll keep everyone updated!

Nah, you have the notice and it's in black and white that it is this date and this time. If it's printing error, it's on them. Your defense would be "here is the notice and it says this date and this time, what do you want me to do?"

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I'm just really hoping they didn't mess this one up... The USCIS rep told me on the phone that this isn't uncommon, but I can't find any case where someone had to show up so early. And again, she didn't really seem to know anything and was very rude...

I would take I-797C notice for our I-485 Adjustment of Status with the time and date just in case the security guard ask why are you coming so early. Keep us posted if you're let through!

Thank you for the advice! Yeah, I'm definitely going to be loaded with documents. I'm wondering if there's even a security guard at that time....

The mailing address "C/O (wife's father) is normal..........I would report at 6:45 per the instructions......

Thank you for your input. Glad to know that the C/O portion isn't something unusual.. I plan to report by 6:45 am, but I thought it's really strange that they'd ask us to come in over an hour before the place even opens up.

Hoping others can chime in and offer some feedback, or perhaps share similar experiences.

  7. Hi everyone,

After initially applying for the K1 visa and going through the entire marriage/AOS process, my wife (applicant) and I (petitioner) received our I-797C notice for our I-485 Adjustment of Status initial interview, which will be on 2/12/2019. However, the interview time referenced on the notice is 6:45 AM, which seems really odd as the offices don't open until 8 AM, per USCIS...

I called USCIS this morning after being on hold for a long amount of time, and the representative said it's probably right, but she obviously didn't know. She said maybe they just want to schedule early, even though she told me that the office opens at 8 AM. She was extremely rude and just kept sighing over the phone, so she wasn't very helpful. :(

Has anyone else received a notice for an AOS interview time this early? Or does it seem like a typo? Another weird thing on the notice is that it was addressed to (wife) C/O (wife's father), which I found very weird as her father lives in Korea... I'm growing increasingly worried about this interview... so I would appreciate it very much if someone can provide me with some insight or share their experiences. The interview location is 300 North Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

    Thank you very much.

Hey, yes had my biometrics back in March so still waiting. Then received this in August so replied the same day but it just says tjat rhey have received the evidence and will continue the process. Guess I'll just have to keep waiting. Thanks 😊

Hi Chloe - just as a heads up, after sending over my supplemental forms for my RFIE, my wife received her EAD/AP within a month. We're still waiting to hear back on the AOS. We originally sent applications for her AOS/EAD/AP together in March, did her biometrics in April, and just recently received her EAD/AP. Hope this helps.

I'm curious. You all knew the father was sick when you started K1... why didn't you start CR1 instead and have her stay with her father during processing and upon entering the States she would have been a permanent resident with the ability to travel?

I'm not sure. To be honest, I had never heard of the CR1, and I was living in the US while she was in Korea. We were doing long distance for 2+ years, and when I asked multiple lawyers about my options, they all recommended the K1 to bring her over.. Would I have been able to go through the CR1 process, despite me residing and working in the US and her living and working in Korea?

Many people travel all the time on this forum with advance parole and return just fine. Advance parole once issued is valid for multiple travel and has no travel restrictions during its validity. It’s normally issued for 1 year for those with pending adjustment of status applications. She is perfectly fine to use it for a 1 month travel overseas but must keep an eye though for her interview. Parole is not admission and has CBP discretion so it does carries some risk, however; this isn’t something she should worry about provided she has no inadmissibilities such as criminal records.

Hello. Thanks much for the feedback. It's good to know she'll most likely not have any issues traveling abroad. :) Thanks again!

  11. Hello!

My wife's EAD/AP card is currently being made, so we anticipate receiving it within a week or so.

With respect to traveling outside the U.S. with an AP Travel Document, are there any restrictions regarding the length of our trips or the number of times we can travel?

Because her father is really sick, we're planning on visiting her family in Korea next month.

I'll be there for roughly a week as I have work, and she's planning on staying there for a month or so.

Will this cause any problems for her upon her return to the U.S.? I just want to be safe and not stir any suspicion with UCSIS.

What are your guys' experiences with traveling internationally with an AP?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you guys can offer!

Thank you and likewise to you both even though i know this is part of another process ahead of us. Has been the hardest time not working and inability to leave country should emergency arise. Luckily we are both on the way of being out of that now.

So i activated the email notifications online when i logged in. I cannnot recall about filling it in on form.

Sent my paperwork in beginning of May. The USCIS acknowledgment receipts date May 10th 2018.

FYI, my card does not have a SSN on it

Ive just posted a thread asking about it and someone advised me that after EAD/AP card recieved you have to go to local social security office to apply for SSN

Yes, this is actually very exciting! The wife's father has been bedridden in the hospital this whole year, so we're definitely looking forward to visiting Korea after we receive our documents.

And thanks much for the heads up on the SSN... We've visited the SS office a few times previously, and they've been pretty unhelpful. Make sure to bring ANY relevant documents (including your I-94, passport, etc.) because the SS office in my area (Los Angeles) is just like there DMV where they'll send you home after a long wait if you're missing anything. Hopefully, you can get your SSN sorted out quickly! :) Good luck with finding work and continuing future immigration related processes.

Last Wednesday Sept 21st I recieved notification via email that my case had been updated and when loggin I recieved a msg that a card was on the way. Monday 24th Sept then I recieved 2 letters "notice of action" to state my applications had been approved and a card would be on the way.

Apologies I said Monday was for the email re the post but it was in fact yesterday. And then card arrived today.

So all in all a week since my case was updated on their website.

Thank you v much, thrilled and delighted for you and your wife with impending good news on the way. Ive been playing stake out with the post lady ha

Ahh, I see. I haven't received email notifications for some reason even though we submitted the form to receive email notifications. I understand how you totally feel, so I'm very happy for you! These past 6.5 months have been extremely painful financially and emotionally as well. :( Just out of curiosity, when did you submit your application for the EAD/AP? Again thank you so much!! And I hope you don't run into any bumps in the future! Good luck with everything. :)

I am in the same boat as your wife (applied for EAP and AP together). When my case was updated online, only made reference to my EAP application number.

I was emailed on Monday 09/24/2018 to say a card would be arriving in the post. It came today on 09/26/2018. It also serves as AP parole document. As said above it states it on the bottom of the card

Awesome! Thank you so much for the information!! And congrats on receiving your EAD/AP. We never received an email in regards to the card. We just checked the USCIS case status page every day.. Lol. I guess now we'll have to be on the lookout for an email? Thanks again!

    AP will not change-
So long as u applied for both together, you will receive the combo card once EAD is approved (which is your case)

Typically, from ur status update, expect the card within 5 days to 2 weeks (depending on ur location)

    Congratulations on ur approval!

Awesome!! Thank you so much! We're so excited!!

I found it kind of odd that the AP page didn't get updated for some reason as we did apply for these together.

When you receive the EAD card, make sure it says (at the bottom of card usually) something like this "SERVES AS I-512 ADVANCE PAROLE". If it says that then that is your combo card.

Thanks for the heads up! Thank you so much!

  16. Hello,

The USCIS just updated the status on my wife's EAD status to "New Card Is Being Produced." Obviously, this means that her EAD has been approved and will be sent out.

However, when we applied for her I-485, we included applications for her AP as well as EAD, but her AP case status remains unchanged.

From my understanding, when an application for an EAD and AP are submitted with the I-485, applicants receive some sort of "combo card" upon approval.

Will we get a combo card, or just the EAD? It would be very unfortunate if we just receive an EAD.

Also, roughly how long does it take for USCIS to make these cards and mail them out?

Just for some background, we submitted her I-485, I-765 and I-131 applications mid March. She came to the U.S. sometime in late February through a K1 visa.

Any information will be greatly appreciated!

I see.. that why I am asking as the process is very disappointing.

I would appreciate if you let me know any positive news when request service.

I'm hoping something good happens.. I just talked to a friend in a similar situation yesterday.

He recently processed a service request and was notified that they'll get an update within a month or so.. So, who knows what that notice will say..? I wouldn't be surprised if it just says, your application is in process and pending review or something along those lines.

My office is National benifets center.

Did you make any inquiry, as I see from processing time for all office your date already should be out of normal range if I am right (max processing time shown is 6.5 month)

You also say that some got there EAD fast. So do you mean that it is not a rule that it depends on when was submittion?

We've already done an Infopass appointment and called multiple times. To be honest, from my experience, the USCIS workers are quite useless. They don't offer any insightful information and don't seem to know any details of any cases. They only know as much as we do, and the Infopass session was quite disappointing. This was around 2 months ago, and the work said it can come out tomorrow or it can come out in a few months and told us to just wait.

The processing time on the USCIS is just an estimate. Once your application exceeds the processing time, you can put in a service request, which we plan to do soon. We're not at 6.5 months yet, but we will be in a few days.

I submited my I-485 package and had been received by USCIS on 7 September 2018.

Do anyone has experiance how long does it takes to receive the EAD/AP card?

    Note:

    - I already have OPT EAD card that will expire in May 2019.

    - My fingerprint is on 5 October 2018.

I wish anyone who has experinace to give me hope that I may recieved it before May 2019.

    Thank you

We submitted my wife's I-485 along with her I-765 and I-131 on March 14, 2018, and we're STILL waiting for her EAD/Travel Document combo card... It's taking forever, and it's been hell waiting for so long (literally half a year now). I think luck is a huge factor with these documents. I hear some people get them faster, some don't. You can check the processing times of these documents on the USCIS website - you just need to know which office your documents are being processed.

If you had any other catastrophic issue due to the EAD/AP delay, if you go to the local DHS office (make an appointment with infopass) with the proofs of your urgency, they would escalate it and it really works. Here the key is the tangible reason with proof. In my case, my spouse's job loss. Manager gave a letter of termination after certain date if no active EAD.,  we have submitted it and we got the pending EAD in the same week.

Would you happen to know under what other conditions we can have EAD/AP expedited? We've waited literally over 6 months for my wife's combo card to come out, but I don't know what's going on.. For whatever it's worth, her father's been bedridden for the past year in a hospital  in Korea and is in critical medical condition, though we don't think he'll pass soon... Waiting has been so painful, considering how I have to support and don't make "a lot" of money at all.

If you make above $20,300 per year you are fine. There is an income chart you can find very easily on many sites.

It took us 142 days for EAD and 15 months for AOS. You may have a long time to wait. Perhaps your wife could find some volunteer work to do.  The best thing to do is keep busy and practice your patience. At least you two are together.

Thanks for the kind words. We just hit the 6 month mark... so, I'm not sure how much longer we'd have to wait... but we're really hoping to receive some kind of approval soon.

  21. 1 hour ago, geowrian said:

The only way to really hit the backlog harder quickly is to hire more people...which takes months to perform, and then they would clear the backlog and likely have to let them go. Not easy to manage, but yes, they are very slow to adapt to changes in workloads.

Correct, you would need to wait 75 or 90 days from receipt of the RFIE response before they will consider it outside normal processing times. As noted above, I haven't noticed a significant difference in actual processing timelines vs an RFE....it's just how USCIS treats it for service requests.

An interview can be scheduled (and completed and I-485 approved) before an I-765 or I-131 is approved. Those forms are optional for AOS.

Wow.. that's a BUMMER.. this whole process has been such a nightmare. Trying to keep my wife occupied and being the only one working for so long has been pretty tough. I just FedEx overnighted my official tax return documents from the IRS website today as a supplement, so hopefully that doesn't delay things any further. It looks like now I'll just have to wait.... Thanks again for your input on my situation. I just reallyh ope the I-765 and I-131 get approved shortly.

  22. 3 hours ago, britishandusa said:

We received the exact same RFIE. It took them 3 months to change “Received” to “Ready to Schedule for Interview” on the website but internally (confirmed via phone), it took 2 months to change for interview.

Contrary to the belief, it did NOT reset our clock. My husband got approved for his EAD two days ago (Our application was received on April 20th).

Wow.. so did you guys receive your husband's EAD around 5 months after you submitted your documents for your RFIE?

Also, were you eligible to schedule for an interview BEFORE you received your EAD?

edit: thank you so much for your input by the way!
