Finally!!!!!!!!!!!

    Congratulations!!!

  2. I felt this was worthy of a new thread... I am pleased to announce:

DHL delivered all the visas today! After the 24 hours post interview that felt like torture, I can now confidently state, the highest hurdle of the K-1 process has been jumped!

At LAST!!! --- I am so happy for you!

  3. APPROVED!!! :dance::dance::dance:

After much waiting, much uncertainty and many trips to the Infopass office, we finally had our interview in Chicago this morning and it was approved! The only problem was his fingerprints expired, and despite being told that they would schedule our interview before that happened, my husband has to go in for his third Biometrics appointment in 15 months. Apparently the fingerprints he just got for his renewal EAD weren't good enough. Anyway, it's a small price to pay for a definitive answer!

    Here's how it went:

We got down to the Chicago office around 7:30 despite a broken 22 bus, and we decided to go up to check in. There were about 8-10 couples/families already there, but we were the first to be called at 8 am. Our interviewer was very nice...I had nightmares of getting some crazy person who wanted us to get confused, but it was just nerves. She swore us in, asked for our ID (passports, state ID, my husband's EAD) and started with basic questions for him - what is your phone number, what is your address, when did you get married, when was your last entry, etc. She flipped through our huge file (I saw things in there that I haven't seen since early March 2007!) and asked to see originals of our birth certificates. She said that he may need to officially change his name in the US because she's not sure the UK deed poll change of name he did in 2004 is official enough. She asked my husband where I was born and what my mother and father's names are. Then she noted that my father's name isn't on my birth certificate and I had to explain why, though we're on good terms now.

She asked him the yes/no questions and explained that he couldn't vote until he was a Citizen. I wanted to kick my husband when he asked if he could vote in local small elections. Such a Brit. :P While she looked up his biometrics information, he explained how we met and how/when we started dating, how he proposed and she explained the fingerprint situation. I'm not too worried about it since we have always received biometrics appointments very quickly. She asked to see evidence that it's a certified marriage and I showed her:

    - our lease

    - certified copy of our marriage certificate

    - joint bank statements

    - itinerary for our honeymoon

    - wedding invitation

    - cards from family

    - health insurance cards in both names

    - my benefit elections for both of us

    - photos

I gave her all original copies, but she asked to keep a copy of the above to look over later. She flipped through our little photo album and said basically she has no doubt that it's a legitimate marriage, but they just need recent fingerprints before they can produce the card. She said it should take no longer than 90 days total for Biometrics and card production, asked if we had any questions and showed us the door.

So...yaaaaaaaaaaay!! :D The only advice I can give if you think your case is lost in a black hole for many months is to go in for an Infopass appointment and find out what's happening. We were hesitant to do this, but so glad we did because we found out his case was put away in storage for no apparent reason. It took a LOT of e-mails and calls to our state representatives and several trips back to Infopass before it got on its merry way to Chicago, but now it's (nearly) over.

HURRAH! Thanks to all of you for your support and help, especially Krikit and mozplay. <3

    A BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  4. Hello All March filers!!

I rceived my interview letter on Saturday and my interview date is scheduled on August 20 in Phoenix AZ. In the letter it is saying that" Notice for Initial Interview for AOS". Is it eveyone getting in their letter? Just curious? Please lets share how to prepare for interview. Thanks.

I was really confused about the "initial interview" wording on the letter too. Ramzis and I weren't sure what we were going for, but as it turned out it was our interview for permanent resident and his green card. They ask alot of "stock" "check-off" type questions. They really want to see JOINT stuff, i.e., our health and dental card with both our names on it, joint checking/savings account. I kept saying to the guy that Ramzis has only been here 3 months, so we haven't had time to buy "stuff" together, but I showed him what we had. I had the shepherd from our church write a letter saying how we are involved in a life group and are the host home for a bible study. This was some proof that we live at the same address. These are the things they seemed to want the most. Hope this helps! At last, the guy says "I'm approving your status as a permanent resident, congratulations". That was it. Because we are married less than two years upon getting PR status, you have to apply to have "conditional status" removed 90 days before your PR card expires (it is good for two years from the date of approval). You have all the benefits and privileges of a permanent resident in any case.

The ever patient and extremely happily married, Alane & Ramzis

  5. I had the interview and approval in June 11, card ordered the next day, approval in the mail followed last week and today - the Green Card :-) Everything in this journey really went well and quick, no hitches or RFEs or any other delay, from K1-Visa to POE, Biometrics, EAD, AP and AOS - they all came very smooth. Very thankful for that. Next activity is March 2010! Thanks for having this VJ Forum to ask help from when I had questions. Will continue to check as I may be of help to others too. Good luck everyone!

Our interview was in Detroit on June 12 and Ramzis got his Green Card in the mail yesterday!!!! This part of the journey has been so good for us-----I pray for the rest of you to have a smooth journey too, the ever patient and so blessed to be with my husband, Alane & Ramzis

  6. Wanted to thank everyone for providing useful information/experiences/insight through out the process. We got the Green Card yesterday in the mail. When we submitted our RFE from our i-485 interview, we had also requested if possible the wife's last name be changed to her married name. We were pleasantly surprised when the Green Card arrived, it had her new last name on it! :)

  10. Thanks to everyone for the congrats, and for all the help along the way. It's kind of hard to believe that we made it this far. Thanks to the whole VJ community-you guys are awesome. We still have to adjust status for Ruth's kids after they get here in a few weeks, but I'm not too worried about that now...Everyone who is waiting, just hang in there! It won't be long now...

Congratulations----we were approved on the same day!

Oh Yeah, Baby!!!! 4 days short of the one-year anniversary of me dropping the K-1 application in the mail...

Ramzis and I had our interview yesterday in Detroit. The officer was OK, not overly friendly. He asked alot of standard (checklist) type questions. He wanted to know if we had evidence of joint ownership, etc., etc. All we could show him was a joint checking account, our health benefit card with both our names on it and a letter from our church shepherd stating that we both live at the same address. We also gave him some new family photos taken with my parents since we've been married, etc. The interview lasted about 20 minutes. He then said "I'm approving your application". Then he went on to explain how we need to file an application to remove the "conditional" status anytime within 90 days of the 2 year anniversary. He said we should expect the green card in the mail within a few weeks.

The experience was a little nerve wracking, but all in all went well. Ramzis has only been here for 3 months so we just haven't been able to establish "joint" stuff. I would suggest letters from you neighbors that verify that you share your home are probably helpful or any such kind of letters if you don't own "stuff" together.

Actually, after what we've been through the last year with USCIS, this seemed rather anti-climactic, but believe me, IT'S WONDERFUL!!!!

The ever patient, Alane & Ramzis

  18. Happy Sunday March Filers.

I'm trying to find out what MARCH Filers HAVE NOT being transferred to CSC?

Please let me know if you HAVE NOT being transferred to California Service Center?

I'ts been two months for me and nothing...

    Thanks,

    YG

How do you find out if your case has been transferred? Our case numbers are MSC XXXXXXX. Says also on the site that this case is at our national benefits center. I haven't had any touches or anything. We've had our biometrics, and we received our initial interview notice last week (it will be in Detroit on June 12). Thanks, the patient one, Alane & Ramzis

  19. I'm not quite following you---maybe you could give me a step by step instruction. You are at the same USCIS site that we always logged in to for our fiance petition right?

Yes. You are logged in and looking at your fiance petition and underneath you should see a sentence "To add a case to your portfolio click here" Then you type the number of the document you wanna add to your portfolio :)

    Thanks Scott----got it!
