  1. Pardon me for acting like there was no hiatus in this convo, but I was very interested in LisaD's comments.

And amazed at the two full-time jobs thing! I'd be exhausted too. :)

But it all comes down to one's philosophy of how to live life...I often vacillate between throwing myself into work on overdrive so as to be able to live with more creature comforts and wanting to work less, accepting a more humble life, but with more time to do things I want to do. Alas, those things have to be free if I work less!

Lisa...can I ask what you do?

  2. This is the most useful thread for me!

A friend of mine said that she never expected to have a thirty year old baby, and this was her hubby's friend who was living with them!

Our problem now is FINDING that frickin' job. He worked for two weeks before Xmas, but now nothing through the temp agency. Another issue I'm finding (for both my hubby and my clients at work) is that everything is automated now. There's no opportunity to go to a place and be pushy and charming to get your foot in the door. Almost ever place that seems to be hiring requires an online application, which probably goes to some corporate headquarters.

We tell everybody we know that he's looking for work, but so far nothing has come up.

    Any ideas?

Btw, Homeboy's background seems similar to Bora Bora's...limited education and limited but improving English.

I'm so down with accompanying him and talking for him, however, the problem is what i mentioned earlier....they have to send you to their online application.

  3. We're going through the same thing, Bora Bora. Hubby is from a poor background, speaks limited English, etc. Plus, he's got seven years experience as a waiter, but is pretty much done waiting on crazy Americans.

The weirdest part is that all the paisas (and he now considers Guatemalans paisas) that he comes across are illegal, so it's very strange to ask them for assistance getting hooked up with work.

He just had his first temp agency experience, and he couldn't be more pleased.

Plus, it helps that he's a nice person ;), and usually hits it off with everyone he works and studies with, so he always mentions that he's looking. Something's bound to come up that way.

Ironically, I'm working under a grant from the Dept of Labor and Training, and can't help him get work!

  4. Yikes, this conversation seems to have gone awry!

Would anyone (on either side of the debate) like to talk about a guest worker program? Workers become visitors providing a service, which makes everyone happy...anti-illegals because they don't drain the system (although I'm not entirely convinced of their net drain ;)) and the migrants, because many that I know really would rather live in their sending country.

  5. I really don't think that being "too anxious to have a thermometer" shoved in your rectum is out of the ordinary.

    Everything else, #######??

    you don't?

is there something we should know? :hehe:

I think I'm reading it differently than everyone else!!!!!!

I read it not as eager, but as too worked up to allow it.

  6. Why is it that people in poor countries always multiply like vermin? Don't they give a ####### about their kids and what the future holds for them?

Mostly because in poorer countries, having many children is wise because of a) higher infant and child mortality rates and b ) more kids equals more security in a society without a social safety net. Also, poor access to contraception.

all they need are vcr's. that usually works well in cutting down proliferation.

That's always the joke in Mexico! In talking about why they are from a family of 9, the kids always say: "That was before we had televisions in our house!"

see? :P introduce dvd players and netflix into mexico and the population will start downhill.

Oh Charles, we're not THAT backwards! We have DVD players! Netflix is but a dream with the abysmal mail service though.

But imagine the ramifications! Families will become just like us...each in their own room, glued to whatever screen of his or her choosing...TV, computer, video games.

No more procreation because nobody is talking to each other. Sadly enough, this isn't so far from the truth in many middle and upper class Mexican homes.

  8. In Mexico, now that many are not able to make their living by small-scale farming, I know of MANY who are rethinking the idea that having many children is the way to economic security. Those who moved from villages to Cancun come from very large families, but they themselves have personally capped the bouncing babies at two, maybe three.

My husband is the youngest of six (one passed on), and of the five living children, one BIL has two kids, another has one, and his two sisters are unmarried and childless. One SIL is waiting to marry until she gets her career sorted and the other is just a bit bizarre. Of the five, only one has a high school education.

  9. Multiplying like vermin.Breeding like rabbits.

    Better?

Not so much, no. But thanks for the attempt!

They come here invade our country produce more kids faster than a jack rabbit take advantage of the free government system. The reason for having more kids so they cant be deported back to Mexico lol.

That WAS funny! And quite clever!

    Fcukin Mexicans, eh?

The illegals have a group the hard field working type and the lazy type who want to cross over fock like the energizer bunny push many kids out so they can take advantage of the free government programs from our hard earned tax dollars lol.

Wowza! You really have a lot of insight into those rascally illegals! And how did you come about this succinct and obviously well-informed statement?

  11. I thought you were a one-trick pony, Fancypants. I had imagined that you dropped off after the image of Joyce at the luau. Now you want to know what she's got on under her dress?

Thanks, Joyce. I LOVE cookies and Cool Whip. But can I have more than three?

Also, any advice for choosing my first pantsuit?

  12. Just from Lisa's brief description, that sounds absolutely frickin' amazing.

Lordy, I hope they run enough episodes for a Bad Girl's Club marathon and I happen upon it on a hang over Saturday!

  13. Yes it is. But not because of 13 year olds. USC's or otherwise.

Especially since minors aren't housed with those of legal age.

    Full?

Our prisons are full of former 13 year old criminal illegals.

    Criminal illegal?

Yeah. Overcrowding is quite a problem in most US jails.

And plenty of adult criminals were thugs when they were 13.

Absolutely. It's just kind of hard to figure out what Big Puppy is trying to say from his/her cryptic comments.

  14. All right then.

Tell me then why you look forward to his ten year ban.

Slow down there, feelin'. I'll be happy to discuss your issue but what is it? All I see is your comment that has no basis in fact.

Don't lrt the door hit him in the A$$ CYA!

    illegals are ilegals.

Can't agree more. I look forward to his 10 year ban.

Yes indeed. His 10 year ban helps your petition get through the system faster, doesn't it?

Not at all. What it does is enforce the legal immigration system?

See, you are incapable of addressing the issue here. Instead, you choose to try to discredit me and make rhetorical arguments.

Stop the personal attacks and cool down everyone. Thanks.

Some people are incapable of discussing.

And all I see is you asking a rhetorical question with an underlying insult. My comment was PURELY factual. Please point out one false thing in it. You can't.

Watch this, I'll actually answer your question rather than dodging it and asking you one. It's an amazing concept.

I look forward to his 10 year ban as a statement by the US government that you cannot dodge the system for 15 years and expect amnesty and forgiveness.

That's a bit inaccurate. He didn't start accruing illegal presence until he turned eighteen. Hardly 15 years of dodging the system.
