I officially have my green card in hand woohooo!! (well not literally my hand...I'm at work...but in my husbands hand lol). Scotland tomorrow Yay

Congrats!!  If you get a chance, can you please update your timeline so that it can help others.  And, enjoy your trip!!  Woo Hoo!!

  2. If you follow the instructions that are given, there would be little need for an attorney in my opinion.  And questions you have, we can answer on here.  We filed everything ourselves, from K1 to AOS and have not ran into any issues.  GC is to arrive in the mail today.  One thing I do want to state is REMEMBER TO SIGN wherever it asks for a signature.  quadruple check your AOS, and you will be fine.

Yes.  I just wanted to know if it was normal for the communication to stop or if we should be worried about things being lost in mail or something like that.

Ryan, I would like to help... but you don't really give any indication as to what stage you are at. If you want to respond here or send me a direct message and i'll help you out the entire process.

I’m on the K1 visa that expires on May 20th 2019. Me and my husband got married on April 1st. I applied for AOS and got a NOA1 in mail. Today, I went to the DPS office to apply for a driver’s license. I brought all the required documents, including NOA1 to prove that I’m in the process of obtaining a green card. My most up to date I-94 says: admit until date: 05/20/2019. I’ve been told that if they accepted my driver’s license application, it would expire immediately (since the 20th is on Monday) and that they need another proof (another document from USCIS) saying that I can be in the US legally while waiting on the green card... Any experience with that? There’s no way I’m gonna wait for a green card for who knows how many months to be able to apply for a driver’s license. 😕😕😕

You can go to other DMV's but you'll be rejected at all of them.  The system requires them to input information proving you're legally able to get a drivers license.  I mean, you are free to try, I see why it would be worth the effort, but don't be surprised if they all say no.... as much as they'd like to help you it's unfortunately out of their control.  Best of luck though, cheering for you!

Oh I agree. I think they will be okay in the end but exactly, so many people don't even understand the process yet one would think one of the two persons, before entering the process or during would think "I wonder what else has to be done". And I bet there are plenty of K-1 visa recipients in the US still who never adjusted status, or even married their petitioner. They didn't read the clause about "can only adjust through the original petitioner" rule and are just out and about. Hence why the US has no idea exactly how many people are here either illegally or unlawfully/out of status. There's the estimates of 10-20 million people, but no one knows for sure.

The whole process isn't really complete until Citizenship is attained, before that even a green card can get revoked.  The OP didn't file and worse off... didn't maintain lawful legal status in the states.  As soon as they get the I-797 for AoS one would be here in legal status, pending the outcome of the application.  It's a rare case when the law enforcement went to the extent to call CBP and get this person deported... but there's likely more to the story than is being told.  It's not that hard to follow directions, some people learn the hard way.

Ok, read a few threads on this going back to 2013.  My fiance has been in the USA for 5 weeks, we are married, have a SSN for her and May 14th have my AOS appt.  Ever since she's been here I have checked for her I-94 to download and it says "No Record Found."  Sent an email to CBP in Seattle (Port of Entry), no help, the said they deal only with Washington residents.  USCIS will not see me without an appt...just left there office an hours ago.  I am afraid with no I-94 that my AOS appointment will be a waste of time.  I am able to see on the other tab "Travel History" that her passport was logged in at Seattle on March 26, but it will not show a I-94.  I used various spellings of her name and put them in reverse order with not success.  Trying to call USCIS is the biggest waste of time and I cannot find any options on the keypad to get me to a human being.

Anyone got any suggestions before my appointment next week??

    Thanks!

    Go to: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1208/

Email them your problem: The admission record for (NAME HERE) does not allow us to pull up her most recent admission. The website reflects Travel History record #(INSERT #HERE) to be the "Most Recent Date of Entry: 2019 March 26" When we enter her name and information into the I-94 Official Website it does not find a record of admission.  How do we correct this so that we are able to get the current i-94 form?  Thank you

They will email you back asking for a copy of three things: 1) biographics page of her passport. 2) copy of her K-1 Visa. 3) copy of admission stamp.  (YOU SHOULD PROBABLY SEND THIS WITH THE ORIGINAL EMAIL AND AVOID BEING ASKED FOR IT... THUS SAVING A COUPLE OF DAYS)

CBP will update the website within a day or two.

I've read that some(all?) places in my state, California, are very slow to get you the marriage certificate required for the AOS paperwork. Does anyone have any experience with getting a prompt marriage certificate in or around California? Can you please share some tips on getting the certificate in time? Thank you.

Riverside county, took us 18 days from the day we got married.

yeah I mean we are going to do this after 90 days period where technically out of status but married within the 90 days?

In California, IF your 90 days has past, they will not let you change your last name until you get your EAD or green card.  We tried numerous times and they even tried to bypass it for us, but the computer will not allow them to. You also have to get your DL with at least 30 days of left on your I-94.

    Have couple more questions.

    I'm ready to file I-485 I -765 and I-864 (don't need I-131)

In the form I-485 there is a field with A- number. In the example form I see that there is some number, what do we put in it?

Also, do we need to send form G-325A, Biographic Information: ?

Do I send all forms at the same time to Chicago Lockbox? 485, 765 and 864?

    Thank you

You can use this to double check you've filled it in correctly.  https://www.visajourney.com/content/examples/

Nothing worse than being delayed due to a small misstep.
