  1. Hello,

Me and the wife are looking at going to Thailand from August until November. Her green card expires January 2022. Is there any issue with being out of the country for 4 months right before the removal of conditions on her 2 year green card? Anything to watch for or keep in mind?

It's tough, I've got 2 hours into this and I can't figure it out. She will be traveling on her Thai passport, but with her us issued AP travel card. It says green card holders for the US do not require a Visa, but AP really isn't a green card, I guess I'll call the airline and see. I keep seeing if it's under 24 hours, and you don't leave the airport, no Visa required, but then your post and that information I found says you do. It's 45 bucks for a dual entry G Visa, so I might just get one to be safe, but I have to apply in person at a Chinese consulate, so that means a trip to Los Angeles, or have someone I know get the visa for me. I've got 8 months to figure it out, I'll make some calls today.

Yeah, I just dont want people to have same experience as us. It still does not make sense to me.

After some research, looks like they were right. It started Jan 1st 2019, that's why I didn't have a problem in November 2018. But I will this November, so I have to get a couple transit visas it looks like. Thanks for your post, it just saved me some serious problems. Here is the info from China's immigration site...

. Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Yemen passport holders transiting in Xiamen require a visa.

so it is legit, sorry you got hosed. The post above is from January 1st, 2019.

I found that also, it sounds like maybe other city's in china might be ok but Xiamen requires this visa. I was not willing to risk second try though so had her just go buy from phillipines airline

  4. Do not book through them. My fiancee arrived at bkk to fly to lax with connecting flight through Xiamen. They would not let her fly without chinese transit visa even though only 4 hour layover and they would not give refund. Had to pay alot of money to have her fly out later tonight on Philippines Airline through manilla

Thanks GB, I do see the P3 instructions to pay fee and my thought was we could complete the DS160 and pay fee as soon as we had the case number from NVC.   This other guy mentioned he had to wait until "Ready" status to pay the fee in Columbia.   Which is correct for Thailand?

Just to confirm the next steps........the DS-160 is the first step after getting case number.   Based on the instructions, looks like second step is the GSS and then the payment using a printout of the GSS.   Is this correct and can I do all that as soon as we get the case number?    (I mean before "ready" status?)

Is the GSS "registration" something we get after doing the application on the below site?    (Because my fiancee already registered and she is ready to do the application as soon as we can, but she did not get a "registration" confirmation for signing up.....she got only a one line confirmation email.)

this is what I'm seeing on the ustraveldocs.com application..........I did not want to go further for fear of messing something up on our application.

As soon as you have case number from NVC you can send Packet 3 to the embassy. I have a Lawyer in thailand and we did this. Than instead of waiting to send when it says received in Thailand you will just get your interview date within about a week. It cuts off some time doing it this way. You Do Not have to wait until it says received to send packet 3 to the Embassy @DanielPlainview

Have you read the reviews of the embassy here on VJ? I just quickly looked over them. Nearly every review is 4 or 5 stars, and it sounds like the interview is very short (often just 3 questions). I also don't recall ever seeing any stories here on VJ indicating otherwise. The only two countries I recall anyone having K-1 "challenges" in SE Asia are Cambodia and Vietnam.

In other words, if you have a straight forward case, I think you can feel confident things will go fine.

    Thailand reviews:

Thank you, I have seen the reviews but after seeing so many refusals for the fiscal year 2017 worldwide i just wonder if the people that do get refused just never post about what happened. Maybe to painful?

  7. I was researching for statistics on k1 visa and i found these stats for 2017. Does anybody know what pass/fail rates are for thailand and also how hard is interview in bangkok vs. Other countries. Maybe starting to worry to much now that its getting close but just wonder what is chance of denial.

Sorry, I did not see your screenshot only the ones from @FlyingPan and @BigWill, I apologize I must have missed yours . It just looks like the 2 I mentioned are different to me. One saying that mail was returned and saying that if you do not request the document by January 15, 2019 the I-129F would be destroyed and a new I-129F would need to be submitted with fee (the screen shot did not show a receipt number) and the other saying the mail was undeliverable and not having that disclosure about destroying the I-129F but having a receipt number.

I got the one with receipt number also, just did not want to post it
