In case anyone is interested, here's our AOS cover letter.
We were looking for samples when we did ours. It's dated the 29th, but we didn't actually get it mailed until yesterday because I needed to get a couple of documents.

Laura and I got married on the 18th. Best Christmas present ever!

How much are the vaccinations?
If you look up the embassy info there's a link there to go see how much they are. They are quite expensive. Get a letter from your GP listing any you've had so you don't have to get them again. Luckily my fiancee had already had them all.

Laura and I touched down in the US about 5pm Tuesday!
It all seemed very surreal actually. But we're both happy.
The POE process was no problem, though we had to wait about 2 hours because it was quite busy. And no posted instructions or directions were a pain in the #######. But once they had her packet and passport in hand, it only took about 10 min.
What a relief.

My fiancee arrived Tuesday and I rang up the SSA about getting her a card. They told me she's not allowed one unless she has proof that she can work here. Is this true?
Since she came in on the K1 fiancee, we have to apply for an EAD and that is taking 11-12 weeks now. Should she just file for a tax ID now? I have to provide something to add her to my bank accounts, and for taxes this year.
Thanks

Yay! Congratulations!

Congratulations!! I know you both are feeling great right about now.

It sounds like others have had better experience, but this is what happened to us:

Fortunately you're in a somewhat different situation, since he's here on a visa. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Yay!! She's coming home with me! Not only was I able to get her a 1/2 way decent fare, $669, not only was I able to get her a seat on the same flight, but I was able to get her the seat right next to me!!!so now she hopefully will be coming back to the US with me! I'm so excited! I'm hoping we can get a half way decent fare and a seat for her on my return flight. -
Congratulations. And WOW! that was fast, they've sure speeded things up.

Reading embassy reviews I see frequent reference to a "brown envelope".
Is this something given at the interview? Or mailed? I'm asking because Laura wasn't given one, just her chest x-ray.
-
Congratulations!!!!

Thanks everyone! I have to say, I was really nervous. Reading other peoples' experiences it seems ours was a lot smoother than I thought it would be. No RFE's, nothing missing at the interview, etc.
But I was really nervous for two reasons. One, I'm 52 and Laura's 21, we were both afraid they might decide she was only just trying to use me to get in the country. Two, and the biggest, she came here twice last year, for close to 90 days both times. If she was leaving England to marry me, we wanted to spend as much time as possible together to make sure we were right for each other. Well, the second time she came, she left something off the I-94 (5?) card at the airport. So the guy had her fix it, but started helping someone else and forgot to give her back her stub. We didn't realize the mistake until we were filling out the I-129f last November and if she was in the country, which she was, we needed the number off the stub. So we went to the local federal building here and explained the situation and the woman became very indignant, accusing Laura of lying, saying that they'd never make such a mistake and that Laura was just BS'ing. She then got on a rant about her being here twice for nearly 90 days and noted her in the system as a visa-waiver abuser, and she could never visit the US again without a visa. So we were afraid they'd make a big deal out of that at the interview. Thankfully not!
Again, thanks everyone!

Of course, I've always approved of her
Laura's interview was at 9.....at 10:50 I got a call from her..she was approved! I have to admit, when I saw her number ringing me, my heart fell. Based on embassy reviews I wasn't expecting her call until 12 or so. My god I was relieved when she gave me the news!
So she should have her visa in hand next week (they mail it to her). I was already going to visit her, so now she hopefully will be coming back to the US with me! I'm so excited! I'm hoping we can get a half way decent fare and a seat for her on my return flight.

Great! Very encouraging.
Hopefully someone who's had their interview with one will reply. Not that I'm doubting anyone.
But the proof's in the pudding, as it were.
Thanks all.

Laura received her police report this morning.
We're wondering if this is all that's needed. I'm assuming it means she's squeaky clean
but wanted to see if other peoples' reports were acceptable that said this.

Yup, same here. I'm going for a visit in Nov and just taking a carry on. I'll be bringing back two large checked bags of her stuff.

Thanks for all the replies.
Cheers,
Tom

I didn't know about this discussion area and posted in the general section, but I think this is the betetr place. Anyway...
My fiancee sent off the form to get her police report from Scotland Yard about 2-2 1/2 weeks ago.
She has her packet from the embassy prepared and we're wondering if she should go ahead and tic off that she has the police report and send in pages 1-4 for the embassy packet along with the DS forms now, or just send the DS forms for now.
Has anyone here had delays getting the police report? It looks like it's about 30 days from sending in the packet to getting the interview, so according to the UK law, she should have the report by then.
She's pretty stressed and worried about this whole process, so I thought I'd ask to see how long on average it's taken people to get the police report back.
Thanks,
Tom

How different than my experience ringing the NVC! I rang them up and of course had to try 4 times before I got put in the queue, rather than sent to the VRM. But when the woman came on she was very pleasant, asked for the case number, asked for my name and Laura's name...then asked for Laura's year of birth. OMG, my mind went blank! LMAO, I actually had to start doing math and subtract her age from 2007..my mind was a complete blank...so I hmmm'd and haw'd then told her..she then asked for mine, which luckily I could remember, LOL, and she laughed and said, "Well, at least you know that one." Then she gave me the dates and very cheerfully said she hoped everything went well, before saying goodbye. It was the nicest phone call I've ever had with the government....she continued to YELL about how I was a liar (ya...) for saying that an officer told me it wasn't mailed....she started yelling "YOU'RE A LIAR. YOU'RE A LIAR".
Of course soon as I hung up I got paranoid and imagined her quickly sending off an email to London, "FLASH! Petitioner doesn't know beneficiary's year of birth!"

Yup, that's what it says. But it's a form letter. It's dated Aug 30, but the packet was sent to the embassy Aug 29. I rang them up so I could get the exact dates to fill out my timeline. Trying to be dutiful, you know.Got my letter today from the NVC!As you can see by my sig timeline they turned it around quickly.
What does it say in the letter? Does it say "within a week your petition will be forwarded to the appropriate visa-issuing post...?" Thank you
