  1. My wife has submitted an I-130 for her mother who lives in Ukraine, so we are waiting for that to get approved and forwarded to the NVC. I want to make sure we are ready for the next steps. I've had trouble finding a definitive answer on whether or not we need to submit original documents to the NVC or whether we just submit copies and her mother takes the originals only the interview at the embassy in Kyiv. Anyone know how this works? Also I saw something about an online version of the DS-230...a DS-260 or something like that? Anyone know how that works and who is eligible?

  2. Oh, absolutely, si man! I have dropped to 4th place in the 4-creature family behind (in order) Mrs. T-B. (the permanent World Champion, Mini-Bone (a la Mini-Lvivbone), and the cat, si man. Rather embarrassing, but I'll sacrifice for the cause, sigh man.

If Mini-Bone keeps up his proficiency and proclivity, he'll be the star of any fraternity party that he attends in later life, si man.

We risk admonishment from a Moderator, in that the on-topic purpose of this thread is Wedgies, really man.

It's stunning really that such little people can pack so much punch!

The whole fraternity thing makes sense now...babies are essentially little drunk people imo. Once in a fraternity and after hitting the kegs for a bit, they revert back to this...their natural state.

  3. My parents went back to Russia yesterday and they really missed home all the time they've been here. The hardest thing for them was not being able to talk to anybody, they always needed my help. They also missed Russian food a lot, one day we all went to a Russian store, but still... They've seen lots of beautiful places though, that's good. They had fun at the wedding, which is also good (yep, I'm a wife now :star: ).

    Congrats on the wedding!

  4. Farting would be pointless for me at this point as our newborn would clearly have me beat. He rattles them off in the hundreds per day. The silver lining is that I've finally found a great source of inspiration for some very creative new drum beats.

  5. Congratulations to both of you! Having been Oleksandra's tutor for a couple years, I can certainly understand and appreciate the amount of work involved in supporting her! Proofreading and helping her with writing was probably my most dreaded task of all! Enjoy your free time while it lasts...I'm sure Alla will think of something else for you to do soon! laughing.gif

  6. Meest has their main office I'm Lvov. We will be sending aout 50 kilos for around 300 USD. Meest.com

We were lucky, there is a Meest office in Kharkov.

We used Meest and yes it was for a ton of books that my wife wouldn't leave behind either. In fact she went and stocked up before leaving because she was sure she'd never have access to another book in her native language ever again. ;) Anyway...we always had great luck with Meest and found them to be very reasonable. We also had the max amount of luggage we could bring (in terms of size, weight, AND number haha) and a cat and dog.

I'm sure thumbing through the other forums would be the same if they'd post their real pics instead of cartoon characters or just their eyeballs.

Just being modest I'm sure. I mean who doesn't like cartoon characters.

  7. Sorry to see this outcome, but like others said, it's better now than later. You would have been dealing with things not being right for a long time. Don't give up hope though...you can find someone who will be happy to be with you and will show it...IF you look. That's the key though...you have to keep looking.

  8. I can't say exactly how it is in Russia, but I would imagine pretty similar to Ukraine. We had similar requirements to getting married. We went to the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv to get a letter of non-impediment to marriage (basically document stating that I was single which I swore to before a consular officer. Took this to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the same day and got all that done. Bypassed the normal waiting period with a friendly donation to the correct official.

  9. If your mother in law looks anything like her daughter you would probably find some guy more likely to want her as a partner and really speed up the process.

Yep. She's a pretty lady! Very smart and kind to boot!

Happy to hear about the ceremony being nice. My wife is now planning to begin the citizenship process as she's hoping we will be able to travel to Europe some time soon and doesn't want the visa hassle. She just returned from six weeks in Ukraine and she also was not happy with the conditions in Ukraine. (Hopefully conditions will change in the future, so you might consider hanging onto the real estate for a little while longer.) My wife was in Kyiv and Odessa and said the conditions in both cities is awful. Kyiv is packed full of dangerous looking people and for the first time in her life she was afraid to walk around alone at night. In Odessa the pollution is so bad she could barely breathe. :crying:

I think the main problem in Lviv was just prices skyrocketing. The mayor has been doing a lot of stuff to bring in tourists...most of it looked pretty good. You can only deal with 25-30% inflation for so long while holding pensions basically flat. I hope Ukraine can turn things around...I'll always have a certain love for it since I spent such magical times there with my wife. Best of luck on your wife's citizenship...hope it goes fast!

  10. Yes, please let us know how that works out. We will be filing Alla's N-400 in a few months and she would like for her mother to live here, at least part time. Her mom is not thrilled about it but I think we could convince her. She is getting old and Alla really worries that she will be ill and Alla is not around. I understand. I like her mom and we get along great so it wouldn't bpther me and we have a spare room above the garage se[arate from the rest of the house so she could have her "quiet place"

My wife and her mother have always been best friends. Her mother is great...we've always gotten along very well...she's a wise woman, much like my wife. They are planning to sell everything they own in Ukraine (including a nice flat in a great location) and permanently relocate to the USA. My wife loves it here and both of them are tired of the way things are in Ukraine with prices constantly going higher but pay staying the same. So her mother will be looking to make a completely new start here...her own place, a job, maybe even a new man (she's attractive and still fairly young too). She went to the same English school that my wife went to but of course hasn't practiced it in a long long time...We've started having regular English conversations on Skype and she's doing well though...certainly better than my Ukrainian! Congrats on the upcoming N-400 phase! I think you'll enjoy seeing the Oath ceremony, all the new citizens who are excited, and most of all seeing Alla taking her Oath....very cool. I saw a few rare tears from Oleksandra, she was so moved by the experience.
