I was paranoid and we got at least 2 originals of just about every document and many notarized copies w/ translations after that. It makes it really nice though...I've got a big black binder with plastic sleeves for all her original documents along with ready to go copies. The police reports were probably the hardest to get though...they said they were almost out of the official paper in her oblast and didn't even want to give her one. Like most things though, she got it done!

We met for the first time on Christmas Day, got engaged on New Years Day, I got baptised on Valentine's Day, and then we got married a few days after that (yeah, we were on the quickie track). Her mother's birthday and her birthday follow soon after. Busy time for us too!

maybe because they been busy with Family, work, personal reasons, whatever.

For the members who have received Finger print (bio) letters & appointment date is 2/3/4 wks away,

then maybe/maybe not you could try and speed up time in the process,to chance your arm & try and do a "walk-in" Finger prints

before your sceduled Bio F.P appointment

To do this...... if your in the feild office neck of the woods, check to see if they will let you do your fingerprints

early than your date on the letter...(speak to security officer at front door) ask him/she if they do (make up days for F.P)

you must have your F.P letter plus P.R card and maybe your State D.L.

on doing some homework most feild offices let you do early F.P & Mid-wk (wed) seems to be the better day to do a walk-in F.P

it should'nt take that long if they have there act togethere at your local uscis office.

Once you do your F.P & photo done ask the staff for a learn about the united states quick civic booklet

there would be the Q/A for the latest civics test also inside the booklet, there should be a cd also the same data as the booklet.

so you can play maybe while going to work ect.

Most likely this is just one of those differences of opinion colored by ones political views. I looked at a few of the articles above and saw that Haliburton won some contracts. To me that makes sense as they are a corporation and their job is to do work. I don't see anything wrong with that. The last link just looks like Haliburton witch hunt ####### that doesn't look credible trying to blame them for everything wrong in the world...they caused the big gulf oil spill?!? I'm surprised BP hasn't run with that if that's the case since they are footing a several billion dollar cleanup bill. Reminds of 9/11 conspiracy crazies who are convinced the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks. I just don't buy that kind of stuff. There's always corruption/dealing in every corportation/government to be sure. But whether or not THAT's the main reason for our wars is a whole 'nother story...I just don't buy it. Thanks for the links though...I'll give em a deeper look when I get a chance.

The whole name thing was sort of confusing to me as well, especially since my wife didn't have any idea either. It took me a bit to figure out the proper way to spell her name and parent's names. Another one that had me scratching my head was the signature! Over here, I always just signed my name in cursive. Over there, at least according to my wife, people don't necessarily write their exact name...they can write whatever they want. My wife had some sort of mark she always made as her "signature", so I wasn't sure if she should use that on the forms or what. In the end I just had her sign her exact name in cursive, despite what she usually did in Ukraine and that's what she does now in the States.

From what I've read, American companies profitted very little from Iraqi oil. Mostly it was other countries (Russia included) that got the best contracts through an open auction process. I think it is more about the long-term strategy of trying to provide a stable Middle East than about oil. Of course the USA looks out for its interests...the same as pretty much every other country in the world...show me one that doesn't! Same goes for companies...they are out to make money! That's their job! Yes there's plenty of greed in them...but isn't that human nature? I haven't really seen any group of people that seem to be less greedy than any other...it all comes down to what they can get away with. But I digress....back to the original point. I think the USA has LOST a lot more fighting various wars around the world than it ever could have made via exploiting conquered resources. Same goes for all the foreign aid we give away. It's for strategic stability rather than corrupt profits. Just my opinion but I've never seen clear evidence otherwise. To my knowledge, the USA is still the only country in the world to conquer its (and other people's enemies) and not keep the spoils, instead rebuilding, etc.

I have no problems at all with the OP's first post! It sounds just like me wife a few years ago. She was happy in Lviv, Ukraine and wanted me to move there rather than come here. Fast forward a few years and this is her home now and she has no desire to return to Ukraine.

I'll have to get my wife to come post here...but I think a few of the things she would mention:

Smooth roads almost everywhere. You'll likely have a car and the freedom to go wherever you please.

Hot water all the time. Drinkable water right out of the faucet in most places.

Huge variety of clothes/shopping. Yes we have lots of ugly clothes and Americans do often choose comfort over looks. But it's up the individual. Likewise, you can pretty much pay whatever you want for things. Want to spend a fortune...there's stores for you. Want to get lots of bang for your buck...no problem.

Huge variety of fruits/vegetables all year round. Maybe not quite as tasty in some cases, but my wife finds plenty that she likes. You have to learn to shop for certain things at certain stores.

Great dance clubs. I'm sure Kyiv has great ones as well, but some of them are really over the top here.

Great Internet speeds. Most places you can get 25/50Mbps. Getting faster all the time. Likewise, we have Netflix and other places where you can rent tons of DVDs/BluRays...high quality stuff...not grainy like tghe pirated stuff in Ukraine! You can even download stuff over the Internet in high-quality.

Lots of tasty foods and desserts (they may be a bit sweeter than what you are used to at first). It's the American weakness and why most of us are so fat. Probably the number one reason for the ugly clothes...ugly = comfortable for fat people clothes.

Easy access to cruises and stuff like that. American citizens and permanent residences can go pretty much any place without hassles.

Money. You can actually save it if you do things right!

Less corruption! The fees for things are actually official and you don't have to pay extra just to get people to do their job. Generally things are more expensive but that's why you make more money here.

The best medical care. Also expensive but again that's why you have more money here.

Better retirement/benefits. At least until we run out of money.

Most areas don't have any trash...sides of roads, parks, beaches, etc. all clean for the most part.

Friendlier people that generally will go out of their way to help you just to be nice. Goes along with all the smiling for no reason.

You will get receipts for everything you buy. You can generally take things back without any hassle. People will not try to rip you off all the time when buying things so you don't always have to be on alert for people trying to overcharge you.

You can openly defy the government or say what you want without fear of bodily harm/death.

Cheap mobile phones. Cheap electronics of all kinds.

Planes that don't make you feel like you are gambling with your life when you fly on them.

Ok...those are just a few things off the top of my head. I hope nothing is offensive...just trying to tell it like it is for the most part! I'll try to get my wife on here to post anything I forgot.

We have several middle east outpost. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, Israel, and now Iraq. Iraqi oil is already getting pumped through northern Iraq into Turkey. It's all about oil and protecting said oil. It's what makes the modern world go. No oil, no energy, no energy...no modern world. Vicious cycle eh.

I still don't see any proof of the USA profitting from oil and gas from any of these countries. Have some links that detail any of this? I'm really wanting to learn more about it. I've seen people make this argument in the past that we invaded Iraq for oil but I've never seen any proof of it. I'm thinking surely if we were making out on this our national debt might not be going up quite as fast as it has been. Instead, everything I've seen points to huge costs due to the wars.

My wife will spell just about everything exactly as it sounds. Sometimes I have to decode text messages.

Yep, she does that on occasion but she's gotten a lot better due to practice. She still struggles with articles, either leaving them out, using the wrong one, or adding them where they aren't needed. I'm not much help...I can't really tell her a flawless set of rules...it's just common usage for most stuff because even the exceptions have exceptions in the English language.

As far as being recognized...that happens constantly! Everyone remembers her wherever she goes. If I'm by myself, they usually don't recognize me at all, but if they did, it's like others...they ask where my wife is!

Another funny thing along the same lines...my wife is always surprised when people ask her where she's from! "How they know this?" She can't believe they can tell by just be hearing her speak a couple words. In actuality they know just from looking at her and the voice confirms it. Pretty funny though to see her surprise.

I don't buy the oli and gas arguments for being in Afghanistan or Iraq or anywhere else. Are you saying that we are actually taking that oil or gas or what? I've never seen any evidence of that. Instead it just seems like we are dumping huge sums of money (and lives) funding the wars. How exactly do we profit from that oil and gas?

It took me about a year or two to start to really hear the short-cuts she sometimes used. For example..."muntz" instead of "months", "hellsy" instead of "healthy" etc. I call her on them all the time now and she laughs when I catch her. "Did you just say xxxxx? I'm not familiar with that..."

I actually hate correcting her, because a little more of that magic fades the better she gets at English.

Thinking studying something different is another great idea for someone like me, the question now is what and how. Anyone knows if I can get a loan and how soon?

Check what your state offers too! For example, here in GA after 1 year of residency, students are eligible for HOPE scholarships. We've pretty much only had to pay for books so far. Now the fact that some of her books cost $250+ is another story. Damn gougers.

The problem is, for every person that "wakes up", 10 more are born asleep. There are quite a few of us that know we are on the Titanic and can't steer away from the iceberg.

We can't ignore anything.
