That is a great point, and since my Sergeant was enthusiastic about me trying for OKC first, and after discussing that with a civilian coworker, my coworker said the department probably don't want to make anything that sounds like a formal job offer without first going through the whole new police recruit vetting process (physical testing, background check, psychological test, polygraph, oral board), which I'm not too worried about--  I have a clean background, I meet the physical requirements, seem pretty sound, and my Sergeant said he would help me prepare for the oral board when I get closer to having it. However, I can't apply/go through the process until I have citizenship (hence the vicious circle I'm stuck in).

But you did give me some inspiration @Sukie to tweak my letter to USCIS and bring up the points you mentioned, look up some statistics on shortages of police officers and mention that (hence it could be an "emergency"). Then I can email a draft to my Sergeant and Chief to show them what I'm planning on saying to the USCIS Director and that might inspire them, rather then tell them what to say in their recommendation letters (and to serve a 'gentle reminder' to get their letters done, the Chief did say to stay on him [but I don't want to be a pest]).

As far as I know, not really-- I'm not really involved with criminal side of things. We are a smaller suburb department, not a major city like Dallas or Fort Worth, but I have seen USCIS vans around our jail (it's all one building), and I was told at somepoint secondhand that we rent out cells to USCIS for holding prisioners. But you also make a good point that I could bring up that I would be helping protection national interests.

Well right now it's looking like I'm going to be the last one to get my citizenship. . . Just my luck to have one of the slowest offices in the country.

When I was at my Infopass appointment I asked about having my case expedited for employment reasons, and I was told I could submit my request in writing to the USCIS Dallas Field Office Director. It seemed very informal (no actual form to fill out, just write a letter).

Additionally, the week prior to my appointment, I mailed my Congressman a letter, requesting his assistance in expediting my case, and this week I did receive a response from his office, and they presented me two options, write the Dallas Field Office Director (just like I was told I could do at my appointment), or request his office to reach out to the Oklahoma City Field Office and have my case transferred there. I decided to try having my case transferred to OKC, but the next day (yesterday) I received the bad news OKC wouldn't be able to accommodate me.

So that puts me back to requesting Dallas to expedite my case, now looking at the list of criteria for expedition:

• Severe financial loss to company or person; - Not Applicable to me
• Emergency situation; - Not Applicable to me
• Humanitarian reasons; - Not Applicable to me
• Nonprofit organization whose request is in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States; - Asked my Sergeant on that one, and he said the Police Department is not really a 'nonprofit organization'
• Department of Defense or national interest situation (These particular expedite requests must come from an official U.S. government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to the government.); - I'm Local Government, not Federal
• USCIS error; or - Insert smart alec comment here, but not applicable to me
• Compelling interest of USCIS.

I think my only chance is Compelling interest of USCIS, which means it's most likely Officer Discretion (which I know all about). I informed my superiors of this setback, and they said they would write me letters of recommendation to attach to my letter to the Director, and have to me early next week (should I send originals and keep copies, or send copies and keep originals?).

Any recommendations on how to write this letter would be greatly appreciated, I thought about tweaking the letter I wrote to my Congressman, or should I write something else? Should I write to my Senator, Ted Cruz (one Canadian to another, eh!)? Ultimately the goal is Citizenship, which will allow me to become a Sworn Peace Officer.

Sorry it's been a few days, but I did speak with a Level 2 Officer on the phone, who informed me that my I-751 was combined with my N400 at the NBC, and will be adjudicated together, just as Sukie said. So my I-751 is still pending, and not approved (yet) despite being told I was at my appointment.

I'm hoping the "Approved I751" written in my passport with the stamp does not cause problems when I return in August. The other bad thing, is it is only a 6 month stamp, instead of a 12 month stamp (expiring 11/29/18)-- so I'll have to go back and get another stamp if I go to Canada for Christmas.

I don't know where that officer got her information from, but as my feelings towards the Dallas Field Office, I am not impressed.

Maybe I should move an hour north to Oklahoma, and OKC will have processed my case by now

What I cannot tell is whether NBC went ahead and adjudicated your I-751 (congrats!), and are going ahead and sending your Green Card to you, or, whether your local office has finished its work on the I-751, clocked that part in, and is now working on your N-400.  Unfortunately, I'm also guessing that you will just have to wait until you either get a "Your card is in production" notice, or an interview notice.

 

Let us know.  Doesn't seem like much has happened for the February 2018 group for about 10 days.

 

We are at Day 102 since filing.  and Day 80 since Biometrics.  Starting to get VERY itchy.

I think you're right Sukie, given the estimated processing times for Dallas Field Office and my online USCIS account is saying my N400 is giving me an estimated case completed date of April 2020 (which I've heard could be sooner, but I'm not giving myself false hope), I just figured my I-751 would have been bundled with and reviewed with my N400, so this news was a little surprising to hear nonetheless. I'll call the 800-number back when they are open and hope I can get further information/clarification.

Despite Citizenship being the ultimate goal, it would be nice to have a non-expired GC while I wait for my N400 to be processed.

I wouldn't be surprised if I receive a permanent GC in the mail in the next few weeks, and not get any updates online or notification

So just thought I'd share my update from my visit this morning to the Dallas (Irving) Field Office. . .

Since I have an upcoming trip in August to Canada for a friend's wedding I went to get another I-551 stamp for my passport since my Green Card expired 04/17 and my current I-551 stamp expires 06/19/18, I made an InfoPass appointment at midnight 2 weeks ago and had my pick of times (0700) since who knows when or if I'll receive my 10 year green card.

When I did get called to a window, I explained why I was there, handed over my green card, passport, my I-797 from when my I-751 was received, I-797C showing my I-751 had been transferred from the CSC to the NBC, and I-797C for my N400. Agent held onto my passport and InfoPass appointment letter, and told me to go to a different window to be photographed and fingerprinted, and she would call me back up.

I went to the other window where that agent photographed me and fingerprinted both my index fingers, and told me I could take a seat. About 10 minutes later, first agent called me back up and told me that because my I-751 was approved on May 18th (or 15th, I don't remember now, was too excited) she was only giving me a 6 month stamp, opposed to a 12 month one expiring on 11/29/18.

When I checked the case tracker app, and USCIS website, there has been no update of my I-751 being approved, but I hope she was right. Does anyone know how long it takes for the website to update? 800 customer service number was already closed, so I couldn't check with someone on the phone. Although Citizenship is the ultimate goal, this would show progress and make going through Customs when I come back home much easier with an unexpired green card.

Howdy! Long time lurker, first time poster. . . Thought I'd add myself to the list since there doesn't seem to be anyone on this thread with Dallas as their field office. I filed with a pending I-751 from CSC as from reading here it was recommended to not wait for the permanent green card. I received a NOA that my I-751 had been transferred to the NBC.

Really hoping this process takes quicker than what USCIS is quoting me as you can see by screen name my chosen profession requires me to be a naturalized citizen and even the Chief is asking me when I'll get my citizenship, so I can cross over from a civilian position to a sworn position.
